Mary Badham, Hollywood’s original Scout Finch in the 1962 film of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, has been cast in the touring stage production of Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation. This time around, Badham, who has acted infrequently in the decades since her indelible performance in the classic movie, will portray Scout’s mean-as-a-snake drug-addicted racist neighbor Mrs. Dubose.
Badham’s surprise casting was announced today by producers, who unveiled the complete cast of the play’s first national tour. The tour, which stars the previously announced Richard Thomas as Atticus Finch, launches March 27 in Buffalo, before moving on to Boston, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Chicago, Cincinnati and other cities.
The Broadway production of Sorkin’s adaptation is currently on hiatus and is scheduled to reopen with Greg Kinnear as Atticus on June 1. Jeff Daniels originated the role when Mockingbird opened in 2018 and returned when the production re-opened (at the Shubert Theatre) following the pandemic shutdown.

Though there have been deaf characters in movies for decades they were rarely played by hearing impaired actors. Hollywood was looking for big names for their movies and overlooked performers who were deaf. Case in point: Did you know that Loretta Young played deaf characters in both 1939’s “The Story of Alexander Graham Bell” and 1944’s “And Now Tomorrow”? And hearing actors Jane Wyman and Patty Duke won Oscars playing deaf characters. It wasn’t until 1986’s “Children of a Lesser God” that a deaf actress, Marlee Matlin, won an Oscar for playing a deaf character.
Change has been slow since then, but this past year has been encouraging. Paul Raci received an Oscar nomination this year as a Vietnam Vet who became hearing impaired in the conflict runs a shelter for recovering hearing impaired substance abuse addicts in “Sound of Metal.” Teenage deaf performer Millicent Simmonds returned this year...

Constance Marie is well known for her role as the hard hard-working and devoted wife, Angie, in George Lopez.
On the new ABC Family hit soap Switched At Birth, Constance stars as Regina Vasquez, Daphne's hard-working single mom. Her whole life is flipped on its head when it's discovered that her biological daughter has grown up under an entirely unfamiliar roof, while she's raised a baby not her own.
We Love Soaps TV recently had the honor of speaking with Constance. We talked about all sorts of things--motherhood, True Blood, learning to sign, being green, and of course, Switched. Here's a transcript of our conversation:
We Love Soaps TV: Now that you are a mom, how is that relationship similar to the relationship you have each of the young adults who play your children in Switched At Birth?Constance Marie: Oh my gosh. I think I’m a...

Constance Marie is best known for her hilarious role as Angie Lopez on the long running "George Lopez" show, but these days, she's doing the drama thing as Regina Vasquez on ABC Family's "Switched at Birth." The show, which follows the families of two teenage girls who discover that they were switched at the hospital, certainly isn't short on emotionally trying moments. When Zap2it asks Marie whether she misses the sitcom life, she doesn't hesitate.
"Heck yeah!" she exclaims. "Who wants to cry for five and a half hours for pretend reasons? You know what, it's kind of cathartic, but after a while, you're like, 'Enough already.' I suppose it's not that much easier, because the pressure to be funny can be stressful too, because you have to nail every joke."
She's working an entirely different set of acting muscles these days -- literally. As the mother of a deaf daughter,...
