Digimon: The Movie. Angela Anaconda.
“Two properties tied together by forces beyond their control. You could even call it destiny.”
That’s how Angela Anaconda expert Alexandra Bender summarized the intertwined legacy of these two franchises and its spot on. In 2000, Digimon: The Movie premiered in theaters but before fans could watch the flawless masterpiece they were greeted with an unexpected Angela Anaconda short film that in the years since has drawn no shortage of ire.
The four-minute short features the characters and distinctive cutout animation of the Angela Anaconda TV series, which at that time was airing on the same network as the Digimon series, Fox Kids. The plot focuses on the titular Angela in her attempts to get a good seat for Digimon: The Movie, “the best movie of all time.” (Angela has excellent taste.) However, Angela’s mortal enemy, Nanette, is able to snag a better seat and block her view.

Digimon: The Movie should have run off with all the Oscars upon its release in 2000. No, seriously.
The year was 2000. Gladiator won Best Picture and Russell Crowe took home Best Actor. The first X-Men movie was released, which many point to as the genesis of modern superhero films. It was the year of Cast Away, Mission Impossible II, Meet the Parents, Charlie’s Angels, O Brother, Where Art Thou? and more. However, one film was released that year that changed the face of what cinema could be.
It was bold. Innovative. A comedy. A drama. A thrilling action adventure that was criminally snubbed for every award possible but to this day is a modern classic.
That film?
Digimon: The Movie.
I am here to finally give this movie its long overdue appreciation. It’s truly a work of art that should be studied in film programs across the country.

We got a lot of listener feedback about our two podcasts on the best of 2010 in film. Many listeners offered their own suggestions in our eclectic categories like Best Performance in the Worst Movie. Listener Patrick Fisackerly submitted a nominee in a category of his own devising: Best Scene in the Worst Movie. His pick was the following scene from "Step Up 3D," a duet to Fred Astaire's "I Won't Dance."
I didn't get a chance to see "Step Up 3D" in its entirety yet, but this is a very charming scene. And the use of long take certainly amplifies its charms. It shows off the real New York locations and the skill of the dancers, not only physically (they have to perform an entire dance's choreography perfectly, with no mistakes) but mentally as well (they have to remember all of the steps, as well as all of the...

The part of the Expo that is becoming my favourite part is the artists and writers guests that attend. They get in a large range from comic artists and writers to others that do other kinds of work. There were some great guests this time around, and some guests that I have had the pleasure to get to know at previous Expo’s. Usually you’ll find a range of local Australian and New Zealand talent as well as international guests. Of course this time around it was no different, and I am glad these events do promote local talent.
One artist who was at the event Jason Palmer (I didn’t even know he was a guest, I love one of his Superman pieces) had some amazing work on display. Prints of his work were for sale, and I believe they sold quite well too. If you haven’t heard of him before,...

Warner Bros is broadening its big-screen superhero spectrum beyond Batman and Superman with the addition of the less well-known Green Lantern, in the hope of repeating the success of Marvel's similarly second-tier Iron Man.
And with Ryan Reynolds in the title role and other cast members including Gossip Girls's Blake Lively, Mark Strong and Angela Bassett, the omens look good so far.
There's been little information at this stage - the film isn't out until next June - though we have seen leaked set pictures of Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond, a shot of the spaceship linked to Hal Jordan becoming the Green Lantern, and some images of Reynolds in a dot-covered motion-capture suit on to which the otherworldly green uniform of his character will be digitally mapped.
Now comes some more clues for fans in the form of what appears to be the official synopsis from Warner Bros.

A few months back, when Ryan Reynolds was first cast as the lead in DC and Warner’s upcoming Green Lantern flick, the discussion was raised over at The Flickcast offices on what the suit would look like. It’s a question that has had comic and film fans at each other’s necks since Adam West donned the black and gray spandex for Batman back in 1966.
There have been some film costumes that did their comics justice, such as Favreau’s Iron Man or Nolan’s Batman. On the other hand, there were some flops such as the black leather costumes in the X-Men films or the horrible look of Halle Berry’s Catwoman outfit (as well as the rest of the film).
With those bad costumes in mind, director Martin Campbell reportedly asked costume designer Ngila Dickson to come up with something that audiences have never seen before...

One the continuing conversations I have had with fanboys and comic geeks about the upcoming Green Lantern film is how the filmmakers and creative teams plan on handling the various look and styles that are offered in the Green Lantern world. Consider this: You have so many vibrant colors working together such as different color skins of the creatures/aliens in the story (pinks, purples, oranges, Human color flesh, etc.), plus you have real life tones and features with present day Earth and other planets mixed in along with the darkness of space and much more. Its a tough combination for sure.
The Green Lantern boasts a lot of challenges for any creative team all on top of honoring the source material and pleasing tons of fans worldwide. It will be interesting to see the final product but until then articles such as this will give us a small insight...

Jon Tenney (TV's "The Closer," "Brothers and Sisters") has signed on to play test pilot Martin H. Jordan, the father of superhero-to-be Hal Jordan in the comic book adaptation "Green Lantern" for Warner Bros. Pictures reports Superhero Hype.
Tenney says "Ryan Reynolds is the Green Lantern, and when he is a young boy, like 11, I'm his father. I'm Hal Jordan's dad. I'm very excited – it's incredible company" says Tenney who will shoot his scenes during his hiatus from "The Closer" in June.
Meanwhile comic artist Jason Palmer has caused a bit of a flutter over the weekend with a piece of costume artwork he did related to the film which he posted on his DeviantArt account.
According to The HD Room, Palmer says in regards to the art's accuracy/status - "I can't show the submitted art, but this is some extra art I did as a cover to the submission pdf,...

Artist Jason Palmer has worked on many feature films and has now been hired by Warner Bros to come up with a few costume designs for the upcoming "Green Lantern" movie. He recently submitted all of his ideas to the studio and added one particular costume design on the cover. For some reason he did not include that design inside the submission, which means that Warners will likely never use it. As a result, Palmer felt comfortable releasing it online. The art should give you an idea regarding the direction that "Green Lantern" is headed, in terms of Ryan Reynold's costume. Check it out below. In other news, "The Closer" star Jon Tenney has revealed to SuperheroHype that he will be playing Hal Jordan's dad, test pilot Martin H. Jordan. "Ryan Reynolds is the Green Lantern, and when he is a young boy, like 11, I'm his father," said Tenney.

Is this what Ryan Reynolds‘ superhero costume in "Green Lantern " is going to look like? Maybe...
Here is what comic artist Jason Palmer said on this Blog:
I did some work for the upcoming Green Lantern movie. I can't show the submitted art, but this is some extra art I did as a cover to the submission pdf, but was strangely not included in the submission. Oh well. For this art, I didn't use costume designs or Reynolds ref that was provided by WB, so I can share it with you.
The watermark wasn't on the orig cover

While shooting is underway on Green Lantern, there's still no shots of Ryan Reynolds in the official Corps uniform. Now, though, thanks to the ever-watchful eyes of ComicBookMovie.com, we have a pretty good idea of what the costume doesn't look like.
Jason Palmer, a comic book artist who specializes in paintings of licensed properties, posted to his Deviant Art account that he was working on production designs for two DC Comic films. "One has a scar," he writes, "and one has a ring." It doesn't take a 12th level intellect to know that he's talking about the upcoming Jonah Hex and, more obviously given the latest image, Green Lantern.
Palmer points out that the art he's uploaded is specifically not the costume design for the film, but instead is his own take of Reynolds in the classic Hal Jordan costume. That being the case, there's nothing entirely astonishing here,...

Ryan Reynold.s Green Lantern costume should be kind of a no-brainer. As long as it.s green and tight-fitting (a little something for the ladies) they can.t go wrong. It.s not the iconic image that Superman or Spider-Man.s costume is. You can get a little creative with the styling as long as you don.t turn it into some boring, black-leather affair. So here.s one interpretation of what the Lantern costume could look like. It was posted by artist Jason Palmer on his website where he claims he.s doing concept art for the movie. Now it.s worth noting that this particular image he says was not included in his concept art submission to the production, so Green Lantern.s costume will not look like this. But if he.s really one of the artists working on the film, then it.s worth looking...

Will Ryan Reynolds' superhero costume in Green Lantern look anything like this recently posted piece of concept art? I hope not... Comic artist Jason Palmer posted the following message to his Deviant Art blog last week: "Hello all, Been busy with, among other things, two movies each based on DC comic characters (one has a scar, one has a ring) I'll share with you when I can." If Palmer's claims are legit, he is working on concept art for the movie adaptations of Jonah Hex and Green Lantern. Things get a bit more interesting as the image above was uploaded to his Deviant Art portfolio, included with the following description: "I did some work for the upcoming Green Lantern movie. I can't show the submitted art, but this is some extra art I did as a cover to the submission pdf, but was strangely not included in the submission.
