Great Gatsby director will premiere delayed stage adaptation of his hit 1992 film at Sydney's Lyric theatre
Baz Luhrmann will premiere a stage adaptation of Strictly Ballroom, his first major film, in Sydney next year. The production, originally scheduled for this year, will be unveiled at the Lyric theatre in early 2014.
The Great Gatsby director will reunite members of his original creative team, including co-writer Craig Pearce, designer Catherine Martin and choreographer John O'Connell, and will stage the production himself. The adaptation will be produced by Luhrmann's own company, Bazmark and Global Creatures, which was also the driving force behind the stage version of King Kong. The hope is that the show will have a future life on Broadway.

British actor will produce and take leading role in adaptation of Suzanne Rindell's jazz-age novel
Keira Knightley will star in and take a producer's role on the jazz-age period piece The Other Typist, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Based on Suzanne Rindell's 1920s-set debut novel, published in the UK this month, the film will centre on a lonely young typist living in a downtrodden police precinct on New York's Lower East Side who befriends an exotic, stylish new arrival at her workplace. Together, Rose and Odalie explore the Big Apple's seedy yet glorious underworld.
The Guardian's John O'Connell has compared Rindell's book with other famous examples of the "unreliable narrator", such as Patricia Highsmith's The Talented Mr Ripley and Zoë Heller's Notes on a Scandal, both of which have been made into films. The novel has also drawn comparisons with the work of Alfred Hitchcock, and – perhaps inevitably, given...

Samantha Barks is reportedly close to joining the upcoming musical Walking on Sunshine. The 22-year-old Les Misérables actress and singer is said to be in talks to star in the comedy, according to The Wrap. The Australian Sound Guild has announced the winners of.the 2012 Assg Awards.
Held yesterday at The Establishment Ballroom in Sydney, well over a hundred guests were in attendance.
The Assg has reported this year saw a record number of nominations.
Roger Savage (Babe, Moulin Rouge, Mental) was honoured with the Syd Butterworth Lifetime Achievement Award, and in his acceptance speech spoke of the difficulties the industry is currently facing.
.The problem we all face is low budgets,. he said. .We need to adapt to this new environment. It.s not just in Australia, it.s global. What we need to do is adapt and change.
.It is a collaborative industry and I.d like to share (this award) with everyone associated with sound, both past and present..
Best film sound mixing and best soundtrack both went to Killer Elite while Best Film Sound Design was awarded to Wish You Were Here.
