With Danny Dyer coming into Walford as new Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter, the mockney archetype has sparked a lot of opinion from various forum sites and social media. The votes seem to be split 50/50 with some expressing their love for his working-class nature and the rest dubbing him ‘Danny Dire’. To be fair, he has previously been criticized to limiting himself to the same cockney role in TV shows such as Skins or films like The Football Factory. However, this may work in his favour – he certainly won’t be out of his depth as he will be playing the same role he has become famous for – The working-class cockney, with a different angle from the writers of the successful soap of course.
The criticism of Dyer leading quite a narrow career in terms of acting roles overall, could be seen as irrelevant – Eastenders is full of ‘cockney geezers...

Martin and Gary are back, in Danny Dyer gangster movie Assassin
• Martin and Gary Kemp: 'We complement each other'
The good news: Martin and Gary Kemp are to be reunited on the big screen for the first time since their critically-acclaimed performances in 1991's The Krays. The less good: the former members of 80s new romantic act Spandau Ballet are set to appear in a Danny Dyer gangster movie.
Titled Assassin, the new film has Jk Amalou on board as writer-director. The Kemps will play London gangsters the Albert brothers, with Dyer himself set for the lead as a professional contract killer who discovers his latest target is the estranged father of the woman he loves.
Producer Jonathan Sothcott, whose credits include infamous 2012 low budget turkey Strippers vs Werewolves (which took just £38 in its first week at the UK box office) is working with Dyer on a number of new films.

Former EastEnders actor Martin Kemp has said that Pam St Clement's decision to leave the soap was the "right" thing to do. Kemp starred opposite St Clement as Steve Owen between 1998 and 2002, and he believes that the veteran actress will now be able to "spread her wings" following her departure. Pam St Clement bowed out of EastEnders as Pat Butcher on New Year's Day after first appearing in the soap in 1986. Kemp told Bang Showbiz: "I still watch EastEnders from time to time. I did quite a few scenes with Pam, I remember we spent three or four days locked in a cellar once so we had quite some scenes. She's a great actress, I'm sure she'll go on to other things. "I think she's making the right move, it's (more)...

Martin Kemp is happy he had such a dramatic exit from 'EastEnders'. The Spandau Ballet star admits he loved his time on the BBC One soap but was delighted when show bosses sent his character out with a bang by blowing up his car. Martin, who played bad boy nightclub boss Steve Owen for three years, said: ''I was happy the writers penned such a dramatic exit for Steve. Playing him was one of the best times of my life but there came a point when I was just doing the same storylines in a different suit with a different girl.'' Martin admits ..

EastEnders bunny boiler Saskia Duncan gave E20's nightclub boss Steve Owen a Valentine's night to remember back in 1999 when she tried to strangle him with his own tie. Steve, however, exacted the ultimate revenge when he buried an ashtray in her skull. On the opening night of E20, Saskia stormed into the club office and made the shock revelation that she'd aborted his baby. Dismissive of the manic obsessive, Steve shouted at her to leave but she grabbed for a champagne bottle and cracked him over the head. As Steve fell to the floor, Saskia created a noose with his tie and began strangling him. A concerned Matthew Rose (more)...

Martin Kemp has admitted that he is eager to make a return to BBC soap EastEnders. The actor played villain Steve Owen on the Walford drama from 1999 to 2002, when the nightclub boss was killed off in a car explosion. In an interview with Closer magazine, Kemp commented: "Working on EastEnders was the best job I ever had. I want the producers to ring me up and get me back on the show. "Steve was blown up, but I could come back as his evil twin!" The 48-year-old, who recently played a number of comeback shows with Spandau Ballet, added (more)...
