James Tupper is sticking around ABC.
Coming off a run on Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Andrew Perkins, the veteran actor has joined the cast of Revenge. He'll portray the father of Emily Van Camp's Emily.
As first reported by TV Line, Tupper will be a recurring player on the new series - which premieres on Wednesday, September 21 and which you can preview Here - mostly appearing via flashback.
Revenge stars Van Camp as a woman who returns to The Hamptons to take down those who wronged her. It looks promising.

Don’t you love Thursday nights?!
I’m biting my bottom lip now trying to simply review last night’s absolutely incredible episode, "I Will Survive," and desperately trying not to comment just yet on the previews for next week’s Grey's Anatomy season finale.
Honestly, I can't wait to see the repercussions from yet another strong installment. Now, let’s talk about the perfectly delivered, emotionally-packed performance by our favorite doctors.
First off, I really liked the fact that Calzona was not the main focus this week. Without them in the limelight, we were able to see the competition for chief resident at its best.
Not surprisingly, Alex told on Meredith about her messing with the Alzheimer’s trial. I just knew he would though. I doubt that Meredith will lose her job or McDreamy, but she will certainly be facing severe consequences. Rightfully so, though.
Then again, let...

Grey's Anatomy's creator Shonda Rhimes has admitted that she does not know if Scott Foley will remain on the show. Foley joined the series earlier this season as Henry, a seriously ill patient who married Teddy (Kim Raver) so that he could use her insurance. However, rumours have suggested that Teddy's ex-boyfriend Andrew Perkins will propose to her in an upcoming episode. Meanwhile, Foley has signed up to star in a new CBS pilot which (more)...

Looking back on the doctors' dating history on "Grey's Anatomy," they would have plenty of reasons to stay single. Alas, that's no fun, though. Regardless, two developing relationships this season will probably soon fizzle out.
We've already seen Scott Foley's character, Henry, admit he sees more in Teddy (Kim Raver) than free access to health insurance. She rebuffed his advances, but we're still unclear on whether she really feels that way or if she's trying to preserve her professional reputation.
According to series creator Shonda Rhimes, there's nowhere for Henry to go, but out. "I love him and would keep him forever if I could," she tells TVLine.com. "But on our show if you're not a doctor there's not a lot for you to do."
Teddy will probably have her hands full when the handsome James Tupper reprises his role as grief counselor, Andrew Perkins - Sorry, that's Doctor Andrew Perkins.

Kim Raver's Dr. Teddy Altman hasn't been on the show much over a year, but soon enough, Seattle Grace's current Cardiac God will be the center of a major love triangle.
When James Tupper resurfaces as Dr. Andrew Perkins, the crisis counselor who helped the staff recover from the hospital shooting, that opens up a whole host of issues.
“He’s a bit nomadic - he’s traveling - and he’s back in town when he contacts her,” Tupper says, adding that Perkins immediately tries to reconnect with Teddy (Kim Raver).
Before long, they’re picking things up where they left off at the end of Tupper’s first run: “They liked each other before, so they’re trying it again,” he tells TV Line.
There's only one slight problem. She's married to Henry (Scott Foley).
Naturally, Andrew will be kept in the dark about that detail for now.

Having appeared early this season as psychiatrist Dr. Andrew Perkins, James Tupper will return for multiple episodes of Grey’s Anatomy later this spring, according to EW.
Originally brought in to perform evaluations on the residents after last season’s shooting (and romance Kim Raver’s Dr. Teddy), what brings him back to Sgmwh is unclear.
Tupper will appear in three episodes toward the end of this season.
Any theories on why Dr. Perkins is returning? Which character(s) do you think he will evaluate, if any? Would you like to see him as a regular on the show? Discuss.

News of Tupper’s comeback was first reported by EW.com.

Meredith Grey, caretaker? Hard as that would have been to picture just a few years ago, that's what it looks like we can expect come September 23 at Seattle Grace.
The woman who puts the Grey in Grey's Anatomy is going to have "some frustrating episodes" when the ABC medical drama returns, Ellen Pompeo tells TV Guide.
After the devastating Season 6 finale, which saw Meredith's husband shot and near death, it's going to take a while for every doctor to get back on his or her feet.
None more so than Meredith, at least in the opinion of trauma counselor Andrew Perkins (James Tupper), who must clear each doctor before their return to the Or.
Meredith is definitely not at the top of that list. Why?
"Meredith does get cleared eventually, but not right away; not without some frustrating episodes," Pompeo says. "She's got to pull out all the stops to try to get cleared.

After a harrowing sixth season finale in May, the Seattle Grace-Mercy West Hospital doctors are healthy and happy once again ... or at least on the road to recovery.
Some of the surgeons we love will have a more difficult time moving forward than others, and each doctor will grieve in his or her own way. What can we expect?
Here's what TV Guide has to say about how the trauma of the shooting impacts Derek in particular, a new love for Teddy and a marriage in the Season 7 opener.

Sarah Drew is one of three new Grey's Anatomy regulars this season.
Whether people are excited about her - or Kim Raver, or Jesse Williams - is a different story. Her character, April, didn't exactly endear herself to the faithful last year.
In this, her first full season as a Grey's Anatomy cast member, she vows that April will be less hateful: "This season is all about the redemption of April!" she promises.
Adds Drew, who also guest starred on Glee and Castle last year, "Her McDreamy crush is completely over and what happened with the shooting will change, her I think."
As for the new doctor in town, Andrew Perkins (James Tupper of Men in Trees), Sarah reports that "the fans will love him," and that, well, "he's not hard to look at."
The adorable Sarah Drew promises a new and improved April.

There's a new doctor in town on Grey's Anatomy.
In the aftermath of the shooting (check out ABC's Season 7 starter kit to get caught up on all the events leading up to this season), James Tupper joins the cast in a recurring role this season as Dr. Andrew Perkins, a psychiatrist who will certainly have his hands full.
Who wouldn't need some therapy after last May?
We know McDreamy is shaken up by what happened, but what about the rest of the staff? How does Mark, in particular react to the arrival of Sgmwh's shrink?
Check out this Et segment for a clip from the new season, as well as some analysis from Chyler Leigh (Lexie) on what we can expect from the new character ...

Sarah Drew has revealed that the characters on Grey's Anatomy will struggle to cope with the shootings in the last season finale. Drew explained that Andrew Perkins (James Tupper), the hospital's trauma counsellor, will have to approve every member of staff before they can return to work. "It's going to surprise you," Drew told Zap2It. "People who you'd think would be eager to get back to work aren't going to want to go back to surgery. "The hospital's still running in the background. It didn't shut down at all. Some people will get back to work quickly - for others it will take longer. There are (more)...

If you thought that April's (Sarah Drew) crush on Derek (Patrick Dempsey) was the most annoying thing about "Grey's Anatomy" last season, you aren't alone. Luckily, Drew promises that the Mercy West intern is done fawning over her boss, for good.
"No, she's totally over it," Drew tells Zap2it. "She's moved on. I think almost getting him shot did a number on her. Plus, she witnessed Meredith's miscarriage and had a real moment with her, when Meredith was telling her about how much she loved Derek. April was definitely rattled out of the whole hopeless puppy love thing."
The events of the Season 6 finale rattled the cast just as much as the viewers. "You should've been there when we first read the script!" Drew says. "Shonda [Rimes] didn't let us read it before or flip through it or anything. We just did a cold reading, all of us together. She...

According to EW's Michael Ausiello, there’s a new man in Mer’s life on Grey's Anatomy.
James Tupper!
Of course, just because the newly-cast therapist is in her life doesn't mean it's romantic in any way. This little news tidbit is most notable because it's the first clue we've gotten as to who will require Dr. Andrew Perkins' services after the Season Six finale.
Meredith makes sense for obvious reasons. How do you think she (and Derek) will handle the fallout from everything that went on? Who else do you think needs therapy? Who doesn't?...

If the scrubs fit, why ditch 'em? Fresh off his stint as short-lived Mercy's army doc, ABC confirms reports that James Tupper has transferred hospitals, joining the ranks of Grey's Anatomy. And here's what brings Anne Heche's loverboy to the Seattle Grace Mercy West scene (whew—mouthful!): Thanks to EW.com's clever sleuthing, ABC tells us James checks into Grey's as Andrew Perkins, a trauma counselor brought in to aid the staff in the aftermath of last season finale's bloody hospital shoot-out. Hence the name McTreaty—like a therapist. You get it, right?! Sadly, James is only set to appear in two episodes of Grey's Anatomy's seventh...

Back in the day, when James Tupper was on Men In Trees, ABC dubbed him McTreemy in ads hyping the show, a take on Grey's Anatomy's McDreamy and McSteamy. The Anne Heche-led comedy-drama didn't really pan out, but Tupper has scored a role on Grey's!
The traumatized doctors at Seattle Grace-Mercy West are about to find a silver lining in May’s deadly hostage standoff, according to EW: Meetings with Dr. Andrew Perkins.
Tupper, who was also on Mercy, is joining Grey’s Anatomy in the recurring role of the trauma counselor there to help the staff recover from that season-ending bloodbath.
He's currently on board for at least two episodes. Grey’s Anatomy kicks off its seventh season Thursday, September 23 with an episode titled “With You I’m Born Again.”

Welcome to your Friday morning television briefing. Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello is reporting that James Tupper (Mercy) has joined the cast of ABC's Grey's Anatomy, where he is set to recur as trauma counselor Andrew Perkins, who is "brought in to help Seattle Grace recover from that nightmarish season-ending bloodbath" and who will appear in at least two episodes next season. (Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello Files) The Chicago Tribune's Maureen Ryan has some dish on the casting--and recasting--going on at HBO's upcoming fantasy drama Game of Thrones. "Varys, the calculating spymaster for the king of Westeros, will be played by UK actor Conleth Hill," writes Ryan. "The role of Waymar Royce has been recast due to a scheduling issue. Jamie Campbell-Bower had played the role in the pilot but when the producers decided to do reshoots of his scenes, Campbell-Bower was unavailable. The role of Royce will now be played by Rob Ostlere.

The new TV season is heating up and shows are searching for people to play new roles.
Our favorite is no exception. As if it didn't have enough eye candy, Grey's has feelers out for a sexy actor to play Andrew Perkins, a forty-something trauma counselor, says TV Guide.
Any thoughts on who should play this role - or how the Perkins character will be tied in with the Sgmwh surgeons we know and love? Comments and theories are welcomed below.
