Stars: Breckin Meyer, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Reed Diamond, Dana Davis, Kumail Nanjiani, Malcolm McDowell, Heather Locklear | Created by Bill Chais, Kevin Falls
Bill Chais and Kevin Falls, who both previously worked together as writers on the short-lived Emmy-nominated James Woods legal drama Shark, teamed up in 2011 for an all-new legal drama, Franklin & Bash, which follows lawyers and lifelong friends Jared Franklin and Peter Bash, a pair of unconventional lawyers whose M.O. typically involves them doing everything a lawyer shouldn’t (drinking in court, hitting on clients) in order to win their cases. Once such case sees the duo score legal win against the large and prestigious law firm Infield Daniels, which brings them to the attention of Stanton Infield, one of the said firm’s major partners, who recruits the pair to work for the very firm they beat in court – bringing both their legal skills and their sense of...

Well it’s the start of another week, so you know what that means – yet more DVD and Blu-ray releases hit the high street, ready and waiting to swallow up all your hard-earned cash! So here’s the rundown of what’s available to buy from today, November 14th 2011.
Pick Of The Week
Franklin & Bash: Season 1 (DVD)
When Peter Bash (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) and Jared Franklin (Breckin Meyer), two young attorneys with a no-holds-barred courtroom style, are hired by Stanton Infeld (Malcolm McDowell), life at his buttoned-down law firm will never be the same. Working with their equally oddball staff – researcher Pindar Singh (Kumail Nanjiani) and paralegal Carmen Phillips (Dana Davis) – Franklin and Bash shake things up at the firm with their audacious tactics and immediately find an enemy in its star lawyer, Infeld’s nephew Damien Karp (Reed Diamond). While the sexual tension between Jared and senior partner Hanna Linden...

Kooky legal dramas such as Ally McBeal and Boston Legal have been a mainstay of the U.S. television networks for years, but while this niche was once the sole purview of writer/producer David E. Kelley, that’s no longer the case. And to prove the point I’d like the court to consider Franklin & Bash, the complete first season of which has just arrived on DVD.
The show stars Breckin Meyer (Road Trip, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Garfield) and Mark-Paul Gosselaar (NYPD Blue, Raising the Bar and yes, Zack Morris from Saved by the Bell) as Jared Franklin and Peter Bash, a pair of unconventional attorneys with a predilection for referring to themselves in the third person whose courtroom theatrics (think lightsabre fights, drinking in court and making out with their clients) often get them into trouble while nevertheless helping them win their cases. After scoring an unlikely...

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have announced the UK DVD debut of Franklin & Bash: The Complete First Season, my favourite new show of the 2011 Us television season.
Starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Saved by the Bell, NYPD Blue), Breckin Meyer (Road Trip, Garfield) and Malcolm McDowell (Entourage, A Clockwork Orange) the show follows a pair of streetwise lawyers who play by their own rules while successfully navigating their way through law and life, all while trying to fit in to the conservative law firm they’ve recently joined. Featuring all 10 hilarious episodes, Franklin & Bash: The Complete First Season will be available on DVD on November 14th

TNT's upcoming series Franklin & Bash (Premiere - Wednesday June 1st at 9 p.m. Et/Pt) is a prime example of why most of today's best television is on cable. Not because it's the next best show ever, it's not, but because it can take full advantage of the very different dynamic that exists between cable networks and viewers. If this show were about to set sail on one of the major networks, my advice (whether I like the show, or not) would probably be that your time is better spent looking for something else. Why? Mainly because, despite the fact that I rather like the show, it wouldn't have much chance to survive.
Viewers know how the game is played, and they would see promos for this on network television, and figure that since it isn't the biggest, baddest thing to come along, it probably won't get more than two or three episodes,...
