Elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001.
Recorded his famous hit song, "In the Jailhouse Now" with legendary
Nashville session guitarist Hank Garland. It was number 1 on the charts for
21 weeks in a row in 1955.
He was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording at 1600 Vine Street in Hollywood, California.
Inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2008.
