Of all the characters introduced in the "Star Wars" original trilogy, it's hard to think of two who were, for a long time, done a greater disservice than Owen Lars and Beru Whitesun Lars. As the adoptive parents of Luke Skywalker, they're pivotal to the narrative; unfortunately, the stories that were being told post "Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope" didn't require more than a brief drop-in on the Tatooine farmers.
Their best bet at extended screen time came during the prequel trilogy, but, even then, they're just humble desert folk eking out a living while the galaxy succumbs to the fascist tyranny of the Sith. So while it was nice to see a little more of the couple (portrayed in the prequels by Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse), knowing what we thought we knew of Obi-Wan Kenobi's exploits between the prequels and the Ot, it seemed like...

"Star Wars" has some great female characters that have made the franchise the cultural phenomenon that it is today. Characters like Leia Organa, the badass that ended the reign of Jabba the Hutt and stood up to Darth Vader like he was just a darkly-clad bully, or Padmé, who helped start the Rebel Alliance and saved Grogu from death. Sure, they may not get flashy medals at a ceremony or a battle against a Sith, but these characters are as essential to the fabric of the galaxy far, far away as any Jedi.
Still, the franchise has an unfortunate track record of forgetting about its female characters — for example, deleting the scene where Padmé starts the Rebellion. Such is the case with the all-time second female character we ever see in the franchise, Aunt Beru, a character who shows up for just a few minutes before dying in the original "Star Wars" movie.

Darth Vader “was such an iconic character ever since I was a little kid, so getting to play this role was really just the opportunity of a lifetime,” reveals Hayden Christensen about returning to the “Star Wars” fold as the legendary character. For our recent webchat he adds, “I don’t know that I could ever fully get my head around how big it was, just because it didn’t really serve my purposes as an actor, and trying to figure out how to play this character,” he explains, “to come back all these years later and do some more with him has just been a phenomenal experience.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

“I was a genre kid, I was a little goth kid. I was all about sci-fi and fantasy and this was always the pinnacle of everything,” reveals director/producer Deborah Chow about what leading the creative team behind “Obi-Wan Kenobi” meant to her. For our recent webchat she adds, “it definitely felt surreal in moments, for sure. I remember the very first time we were doing a camera test, it wasn’t even the proper costume. But, you know he was in something approximating it, and he walked out, and it was just like, ‘oh, my God, it’s Obi-Wan Kenobi’ and he just sort of fell so seamlessly back into the character,” she says. “They’re so iconic that it is a little crazy to have them standing in front of you. It’s something I’ve never experienced, where you’re working with actors in these huge roles...

The Vow is returning with a six-episode second season, promising a rare view into Nxivm founder Keith Raniere’s innermost circle, including co-founder Nancy Salzman.
“My whole company was destroyed and my whole life fell apart,” says Salzman, Nxivm’s president and co-founder with Raniere, in the trailer (below), which also features Raniere speaking from prison. “Going into this, I thought Keith was innocent. I was wrong,” Salzman tells the filmmakers.
The Vow, Part Two begins at the start of Raniere’s trial, with the finale capturing the verdict. The follow-up, directed by Jehane Noujaim, debuts Oct. 17, with weekly episodes on HBO and HBO Max.

HBO's "The Vow" is returning for a second season, and the official trailer, which dropped on Sept. 22, shows that it will pick up where the first season left off: Diving into the Nxivm cult's downfall after the exposure of its sordid inner workings.
The streamer first confirmed that a second installment was coming in October 2020, after filmmaker Jehane Noujain teased the possibility to Variety, saying, "We reached out to everybody involved - many people, on all sides of the story - and we are continuing to film."
The second season will be titled "The Vow Part Two" and will center on Nxivm founder Keith Raniere's federal trial. Raniere was arrested back in March 2018 on several charges, including racketeering, sex trafficking, and forced labor conspiracy. In June 2019, he was convicted, and was sentenced to 120 years in prison in 2020. Several other members associated with Nxivm - including Allison Mack, cofounder and president Nancy Salzman,...

No one needed “Obi-Wan Kenobi.”
The Star Wars limited series on Disney+ was always going to tread familiar territory, picking up with the aging Jedi (Ewan McGregor) between events of “Revenge of the Sith” and “A New Hope.” Most characters’ fates were known between existing Star Wars shows and movies, which arguably lowered the show’s narrative stakes — but ultimately increased its emotional impact.
The final episode is as strong a case as any for “Obi-Wan Kenobi” to remain a one-season wonder. The show is six episodes of galactic therapy for fans and characters who spent years reconciling what happened between “Revenge of the Sith” and “A New Hope,” but it neatly threads that needle and doesn’t need to continue. McGregor may not reprise this character or utter the words “Hello there” ever again, but it is a satisfying sendoff that leaves the character with something resembling catharsis.

Hello there. “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” the six episode limited series (Or Is It???) devoted to our favorite Jedi hermit (played once again by Ewan McGregor), in the years before he fully embraced his hermit lifestyle, is coming to an end. And honestly, the final episode was fairly satisfying, offering plenty of action, some lovely character beats and a handful of nice emotional moments.
But enough preamble, let’s get down to it!

Bonnie Piesse has taken a long journey back to the Star Wars universe. The actor first appeared in "Attack of the Clones" in 2002 as teenage Beru, who will eventually become Luke Skywalker's Aunt Beru in "A New Hope." Now, the actress is reprising her role in Disney+'s "Obi-Wan Kenobi." But there's a good chance you saw her more recently in something else: Piesse was one of the major voices that spoke out against the Nxivm cult in HBO's "The Vow."
When she first got cast in "Attack of the Clones," Piesse wasn't exactly a Star Wars fanatic. She knew the movie was filming in Australia and wondered if she could get a role in it. "I kind of wished for it," she says. Then they called her agent for an audition. "I guess they'd seen my photo on a casting website or something and they thought I looked like the older Beru,...

Disney+ added a warning to the page of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” that some viewers may find “certain scenes” in the Star Wars series “upsetting.”
That appeared to be in response to the mass shooting earlier this week at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, that left 19 children dead.
A message on some Disney+ accounts on the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” landing page on Friday read, “Although this fictional series is a continuation of the story from Star Wars movies filmed many years ago, some scenes may be upsetting to viewers in light of the recent tragic events. Warning: Contains violence involving children.”
Later in the day, that message appeared to have been shortened, with the update on Disney+ now reading: “There are certain scenes in this fictional series that some viewers may find upsetting.”
The details section for “Obi-Wan” also includes a disclaimer that reads, “Some flashing light sequences or patterns may affect photosensitive viewers.

Disney was extremely secretive about the plot details of the new Star Wars series "Obi-Wan Kenobi," which started streaming episodes on May 27. Fans knew about a lot of the cast. Ewan McGregor would be back as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Hayden Christensen would reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker, and Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse would return as Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, watching over a young Luke Skywalker (Grant Feely). But viewers didn't know that Luke's sister would be in the show, too. Vivien Lyra Blair plays a 10-year-old Princess Leia, and from the first moment she's on screen, she's an absolute delight.

The Star Wars canon is nothing if not its own galaxy’s worth of characters, stories, and other information. “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” premiering May 27 on Disney+, brings back the eponymous fan favorite, but that doesn’t mean viewers can rewatch the prequels and call it a day before venturing into this series (many would probably rather not).
The character of Obi-Wan Kenobi has ties to the original Star Wars trilogy and prequels, as well as events and characters from the animated “Clone Wars” and “Rebels” series, both of which are available on Disney+. But if you don’t have time to watch — *checks notes* — 11 seasons of TV ahead of “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” fear not. Here’s a quick rundown of all the characters confirmed for the series, as well as a handful we might see from the wider Star Wars universe.

Lucasfilm is aware of the dark side of “Star Wars” fandom.
After John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran received racist fan harassment following their respective roles in the recent Skywalker trilogy, the production company behind the franchise is bracing for backlash over Poc stars.
Moses Ingram, who plays a villainous Inquisitor in upcoming Disney+ series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” hunting the Jedi trainer (Ewan McGregor), revealed that Lucasfilm was proactive in media training ahead of the series premiering May 27.
“It was something that Lucasfilm actually got in front of, and said, ‘This is a thing that, unfortunately, likely will happen. But we are here to help you; you can let us know when it happens,'” Ingram told The Independent.
Ingram noted that “Obi-Wan Kenobi” director Deborah Chow has been “putting the proper systems in place so I feel safe as we do the work” throughout production. “Of course, there are always pockets of hate,...

After being conspicuously absent from the previous trailer, Darth Vader is finally seen in the new teaser, albeit only his suit. In the final moments of the trailer, a robotic arm applies Vader’s chest pad to his protective armor, and his iconic breathing is heard as a shadowy Obi-Wan looks on.
Hayden Christensen has been confirmed to return to his legendary role and will duel Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan, marking the first time either actor has returned to the “Star Wars” universe outside of voice cameos since “Revenge of the Sith” in 2005.

Natalie Holt has been set as the composer for Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, becoming the first woman to score a live-action Star Wars project. She broke the news in an interview with Vanity Fair published on Friday, also confirming reports that longtime Star Wars composer John Williams will provide the show’s main title theme, in his first live-action Star Wars TV outing.
Holt teased that Williams’ past work on the franchise will serve as “tentpoles” for her own—and that she will look to bring her own “new and fresh” interpretation of Star Wars music to the series, via elements she can’t yet reveal. “It’s been glorious, working with my hero,” she said with reference to Williams, “and also bringing my own voice to the show.”
Holt also shared that Williams’ as-yet-unheard theme is “reflective” and “just entirely appropriate” for the series.

Disney+ is switching things up.
The streaming service, which switched to a Wednesday rollout strategy last year, has set a new premiere date for Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Initially set to bow on Wednesday, May 25, the series will now arrive Friday, May 27.
The move means the new series will now be competing with the first half of Stranger Things Season 4.
Why would the streaming service pull such a move? We don't know for certain, but it might draw eyes away from the Netflix hit, at least on the opening weekend.
Back when there were megahits on the broadcast networks, it was not uncommon to move a heavy hitter to weaken a competitor.
However, at a time when people notoriously watch TV on their own terms, it might not be that deep.
It could signal that Disney+ is going back to Friday drops for its original series, a strategy that changed thanks to the success of Loki.

In a battle of galactic proportions, “Obi-Wan Kenobi” will now go head to head with Netflix’s “Stranger Things” Season 4, which is releasing Part 1 of its latest season that same day, May 27.
