Chicago – Actor Jeremy Piven came home to Chicago on May 13th, 2017, to moderate the Gene Siskel Center Renaissance Award tribute to actor Kevin Spacey. Piven, who grew up in nearby Evanston, Ill., has forged a diverse career in Hollywood, and is most well-known for portraying super-agent Ari Gold in the HBO series “Entourage.”
Each year, the Gene Siskel Film Center of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago celebrates the art of film by honoring a filmmaker who advances that artform. Kevin Spacey was the latest Renaissance Award honoree, and Jeremy Piven moderated a conversation with the Oscar-winning actor.

The actor talks about her family
My mum is very political – leftwing – and my dad was in the advertising business. They were both from the east coast: Boston and New York City respectively. After they married, my dad's job brought them to Chicago for a couple of years, which they thought was a pretty good place to raise a family. So they were first-generation Chicagoans.
Dad died in 2003 from pancreatic cancer. I still live in Chicago, as does my mum. It is unusual for an actress to live there, but it is where I grew up and my parents were right – it is a good place to raise kids. Mum has always been a huge anti-war activist. She would go off to protest and get arrested. I have her passion, but it is not for politics. I am much more interested in psychology. It's more my job and my natural inclination.

Entourage star Jeremy Piven practises his lines for the hit TV show with his actress mother Joyce Piven.
Piven's parents, Byrne and Joyce, are both actors-turned-drama teachers and the TV star admits he's still reaping the benefits of having such a supportive family background.
And the 44 year old is grateful to have his mum on hand to give advice whenever he needs a helping hand with his role as ruthless sports agent Ari Gold - because she isn't offended by his character's foul mouth.
He tells New York Post columnist Cindy Adams, "(Mum) gives it to me straight. When we began Entourage, I took her to an advance screening. My character swears a lot. Says terrible things. Another parent would be taken aback. She breaks through it all and just sees the character. She just sees the work.
"And she's the greatest to run lines with. She's so good, I get spoiled."...
