A former newspaper reporter and Congressional aide-turned-politician is suing an Ohio newspaper over a featured news article that he characterized as defamatory.
The suit, filed by Derek Myers, comes several days after the Cincinnati Enquirer and some of its co-owned local newspapers published an article written by journalists Scott Wartman and Amber Hunt that detailed some of his prior arrests.
The story published earlier this week claimed that Myers “has been either a plaintiff or a defendant in multiple civil and criminal cases” covering a wide range of accusations, from illegal wiretapping to assault and disorderly conduct.
The wiretapping case was widely reported on when it occurred nearly two years ago. In that incident, Myers was accused of recording audio of a murder trial he attended as a reporter for the Scotio Valley Guardian newspaper.

Over the course of a film career that stretches back 50 years, Charles Band has produced nearly 400 projects and directed several dozen – and in his memoir Confessions of a Puppetmaster (pick up a copy Here), he says that one of the movies fans mention to him the most is the 1983 sci-fi film Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn… which happens to have fun connections to both Jaws 3-D and the sitcom Night Court.
Directed by Band from a screenplay by Alan J. Adler, Metalstorm has the following synopsis: On a desert planet, warlord Jared-Syn is trying to convince a tribe of mutants that he’s their messiah and gain unlimited power hidden in a crystal. Ranger Dogen and explorer Dhyana, who’s father was murdered by Syn, must stop him.
Band and Adler also produced the movie with Band’s father Albert Band.

Science fiction is the exploration of our practical imaginations. Its stories can be fantastic, uplifting, and horrifying but they need to remain grounded in a scientifically applied reality -- a reality we already understand or one that's clearly explained. Without these rules governing our experiences, our exploration becomes untethered from reality and sails off into obscurity, and no CGI velociraptor, animatronic android, or puppet-like killer shrew is going to save it. Or can it? If Dr. Ian Malcolm were a film historian, his cinematic chaos theory would predict that over time, lovingly crafted cinema, like life, breaks free, expands to new territories, and crashes through barriers, painfully, maybe even dangerously.
In their era, masterpieces like "The Thing" may have been a little too much for audiences. Some critics struggled to see the beauty present in John Carpenter's classic beyond the gore and creatures. Over time, though, a cinematically enlightened...

Review‘The Empire’, streaming on Disney+Hotstar, is a grand retelling of how Mughal king Babur came to rule India. Saraswati DatarDisney+HotstarWhen the promos of The Empire, now streaming on Disney+Hotstar, were released, there were strong reactions. While some chose the now familiar path of social media outrage, Game of Thrones fans experienced a strong sense of déjà vu, as did Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s fans who loved the lavish looking palaces and costumes. The Mughals have always been a popular subject with filmmakers in India. One of the biggest films ever made in India is Mughal-e-Azam— Salim, (Emperor Jehangir as we knew him later) and Anarkali’s tragic love story is India’s answer to Romeo and Juliet, while the Taj Mahal cuts across all religious divides to be the symbol of love. In many ways, The Empire, based on the historical fiction novels by Alex Rutherford...

Director John Mackenzie's powerful and captivating 1972 kitchen sink drama Made has been given the opportunity to find a new audience via a tasty UK Blu-Ray release from Network Distributing.
Valerie Marshall (Carol White) is a single mother eking out a meagre living as a London telephone exchange operator whilst simultaneously caring for her multiple-sclerosis-stricken mother (Margery Mason). Seemingly destined never to find true happiness and weary of the inapposite attentions of would-be suitors, Valerie agrees to assist priest and family friend Father Dyson (John Castle) in chaperoning a bunch of underprivileged youths on a day trip to the seaside. There she meets folk singer Mike Preston (Roy Harper), whose outwardly relaxed approach to life just might pave her way to salvation.
A slightly ponderous and largely dispiriting snapshot of early 1970s lower class Britain, I'll openly confess that when I first saw Made I was convinced it would leave me cold.

Mad Max 2 (aka The Road Warrior)
Written by Terry Hayes, George Miller and Brian Hannant
Directed by George Miller
Australia, 1981
Mad Max 2, or as it is more commonly recognized in North America, The Road Warrior (upon its release not enough people had actually seen Mad Max, therefore prompting the title change) , begins with a brief montage of archival documentary footage and scenes from the first film that set up the world viewers are about to launch into. Society has now collapsed. When resources became scarce, the people revolted. The institutions tried to retain order, but it was too late. What was hinted at in 1979’s Mad Max is now a harsh reality, with the titular character (Mel Gibson) driving the dusty Australian roads in search for food and resources for his amazing car, the Ford Falcon. This time his efforts at scavenging are temporarily thwarted by the pilot...

Jay Cheel of The Documentary Blog gives us his top five documentary recommendations.
1. Salesman (1969) – Directors: David Maysles, Albert Maysles, Charlotte Zwerin
The Maysles Brothers are considered by many to be pioneers in the Cinema Verite movement, or as they prefer to say…their own ’Direct Cinema’ style. Saleman is a prime example of their knack at remaining almost completely un-intrusive while still capturing beautiful images and honest moments. The film follows a small group of Boston bible salesman as they try to meet their quotas by any means necessary. When the main subject, Paul ‘The Badger’ Brennan starts to lose his touch, he struggles to remain on top of his sales while sharing stories on the road with his salesmen buddies.
