Pretty much anything related to alternate worlds, multiverses, hypertime, Elseworlds or crises is guaranteed to pique my interest when it comes to DC books. My favourite DC stories have more often than not revolved around these ideas, and Earth-3 is most definitely a member of that club. An alternate Earth where their most powerful superhumans are actually villains and are counterparts of our biggest heroes, is probably the easiest sell ever. Sure, this Earth-3 is not the Earth-3 I grew up with, but there’s still enough there to love. This is the first issue of a 2 issue limited series, and from the publicity blurbs I’ve read, a lot is promised over these two issues.
Let’s take a look.
Judging by the opening pages, this is not going to be a book for subtlety.

This article contains light spoilers for Y: The Last Man episodes 1-3.
The television landscape must always have a little buddy.
You know what I’m talking about. At any given moment, at least one show must play host to a cuddly little critter – whether that be Grogu a.k.a. Baby Yoda on The Mandalorian, Alligator Loki on Loki, or really any Pokémon on Pokémon. Now, thankfully, TV’s next little buddy has arrived and it’s one of the fall season’s unlikeliest series: Y: The Last Man.
FX on Hulu’s Y: The Last Man is based on the early 2000s comic series of the same name from Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra. It takes in a dystopian post-apocalyptic universe in which every mammal with a Y-chromosome is killed by an unknown event, leaving the planet’s women, trans men, and non-binary folk behind the pick up the pieces.

I’ve been enjoying the Future State books from DC a lot more than I thought I would. I just thought it would be another case of what sounded good in an editorial meeting really underwhelming in practice. They’ve not all been slam dunks of course, yes Suicide Squad, Teen Titans and Legion of Super-Heroes we are looking at you, but the ones that have put effort and real thought into their scenarios have really worked well. I’ve especially enjoyed Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Dark Detective, check them out if you can. So, I picked this book up because I loved the title, love the writer (Mark Russell), love the artists (Steve Pugh), and of course love Superman. That’s a lot of pressure for the book to be good. I didn’t like the cover , though,...

We’ve never been especially shy about our appreciation of Mark Russell’s comics work. Flintstones was hilarious; Snagglepuss Chronicles was groundbreaking; Riddler: Year of the Villain was outstanding and shockingly straightforward; even his first work, God Is Disappointed In You, is some of the smartest, wryest writing you’ll find. In Second Coming (out now in collected edition), Russell and artists Richard Pace and Leonard Kirk took the Christ metaphor so often applied to Superman and stripped out the metaphor.
“Second Coming actually began as two completely different story ideas. One about Christ returning to Earth to be appalled by what’s been done with his teachings and another story about a superhero coming to realize just how few of the world’s problems can be solved with superpowers,” Russell tells us in a conversation about his Ahoy comics work. “But, at some point, it occurred to me that...

In 1997, Jamie Delano (Hellblazer), Frank Quitely, Steve Pugh, James Romberger (Seven Miles A Second), and Warren Pleece (Incognegro) created a fantastic tour-de-force, following the lives of a far-flung family, struggling to survive in the morally and socially decadent United States in the far-flung future of… 2020.
Time’s up. Here we are.
How clearly did we see tomorrow– er, today?
You can find out by reading the new, remastered 2020 Visions collection, with a new introduction by Jamie Delano, in comic shops and book stores today, direct through our pages and Amazon, and available on Comixology on January 8th (you can pre-order it now).

Here's a look at the most heroic gifts you can give or get this year!
Superheroes aren't going anywhere anytime soon. From the box office-shattering reciepts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the television triumphs of Watchmen and Doom Patrol, 2019 was a very good year for costumed crime fighters. Here's a rundown of some of our favorite gift ideas this year that will make you a shopping superhero!
Watchmen Companion
Now that the first (only?) season of HBO's Watchmen is over, interest in all things based on the story are once again high. In a bit of timeliness that would make Dr. Manhattan proud, DC has just released ths volume of ephemeral material from the 1980s that includes materials from the Watchmen RPG, comic cameos, and more. The most interesting part? All of this stuff was endorsed by Alan Moore himself. How's that for a Christmas miracle?...

Billionaires deserve to be satirized more than anyone else in the universe, and that's exactly what Billionaire Island will do.
In a world where rich people think having money means you’re a genius, you get things like doomed, lawless, vanity campaigns for president, a strip-mined media landscape, and vampires. Fortunately, you also get the sharpest comedic team in recent comic book memory teed up to absolutely brutalize these dudes in a new series coming from Ahoy Comics.
Billionaire Island is a new series from Mark Russell and Steve Pugh, the pair who created the most unbelievably funny comic in years in The Flintstones. “Billionaire Island tells the story of Freedom Unlimited (Fu Island), a private island created and populated by billionaires hoping to wait out the end of the world,” said Russell. “But because they are in international waters and not subject to any law, their...

Most reviews tend to start with a positive, so I’ll buck the trend. I don’t really Like Harley Quinn. There, I said it. Although currently the darling of some fans and a patron saint of female cosplayers, I find the character just a little bit irritating. Like a friend that tries to be fun and zany all the time. I would like to add that I did like the character when she first appeared, as created by Paul Dini as a foil for The Joker, but then DC turned her into 1970′s Debbie Harry. Clearly she appeals to a certain section of fans though, so more power to her.
When selecting characters for the Young Adults books, I’m sure Harley was the first name on the list. She definitely appeals to teenage girls with her attitude,...

Jeff Lemire and Travel Foremen continue their work on the Animal Man series, which has already begun to prove itself a classic in the making. What began as a story that only dabbled in the disturbing has blossomed into a full-on superhero horror comic. On top of that, Lemire and Foreman have pushed Animal Man into the center stage spotlight, capturing the audience’s attention for a character that has never been a mainstream figure when compared to the superstars of the DC universe.
Animal Man #5 picks up immediately where we left off in the last issue with Ellen (Animal Man’s wife) fighting off one of the grotesque agents of The Rot, who’s been sent to find and assimilate Buddy Baker’s daughter, Maxine. While this is occurring, Animal Man and his daughter have finally left the realm of The Red, where they’ve been learning about The...

Book: Animal Man #5
Written By: Jeff Lemire
Art By: Travel Foreman and Steve Pugh (pages 17-20), Jeff Huet (pages 1-16)
Cover By: Travel Foreman
Published By: DC Comics
Price: $2.99
This is one of the best titles of the New 52. Already, other titles have begun to experience a drop in quality (Justice League International, Superboy and Legion Lost, among others, spring to mind), but every month Jeff Lemire builds the anticipation in the pages of Animal Man.
The character is not a mainstream figure among the heroes of the Dcu, which allows Lemire to take risks that wouldn’t fly in the pages of Superman or Batman. Yes, Animal Man is a superhero, but this is a horror comic without question. Concepts surrounding life and death, growing and rotting and other mature ideas are intertwined throughout all of the action, resulting in a book that is rewarding on an emotional and intellectual level.

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this March. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.8 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant pile of Christmas tinsel since noon today.
What do we have worth noting? The first fill-in artist on Justice League, although Gene Ha is certainly no slouch in that department. We also have new writers on Firestorm and Green Arrow, new backups in Justice League and Action Comics, and the DC 52 hits lucky number 7.
Shall we see who is the fariest of them all? Oh indeedy, let’s do!

Release Date: June 15, 2010
Welcome to a future when we see that technology has advanced in many ways, with a vast array from communications to weaponry. And with this a supernatural twist, ghosts are real and people can see them and share the area around with them. Hotwire: Deep Cut is the sequel to the Steve Pugh and Warren Ellis created Hotwire: Requiem for the Dead. Deep Cut, also written and illustrated by Pugh, features Alice Hotwire, a Metro Police Detective Exorcist. Even if you did not read Requiem, Deep Cut #1 capably stands alone due to its heroine. Alice Hotwire is as infectiously engrossing a character as any we have witnessed in recent years. The brilliant, young, but incredibly damaged Hotwire is charged with keeping the peace between the living and the “blue-lights.” In the world created by Pugh and Ellis, the dead are no longer peacefully departing. Instead, the dead are taking up permanent residence in the world by feeding off of the electromagnetic residue from human technology. New technology was created to keep these ghosts separated from humans, but occasionally the ghosts are sufficiently powerful enough to disrupt the peace in society. Deep ...

Radical Publishing's Hotwire: Requiem For The Dead will be released as a hardcover compilation. Co-created by Warren Ellis, the horror series is written and illustrated by Hellblazer artist Steve Pugh. It tells the story of Alice Hotwire, a detective exorcist who becomes entangled in a supernatural mystery. "In the near future, the living and the dead share the same space. Known as Blue Lights, the non-living are mostly harmless, roaming the streets, hiding from city lights, scuttling in the shadows," reads the book's solicitation. "When [the dead] begin to appear as ghostly weapons of mass destruction, (more)...

So one day you’re out walking the dog, and Bam! You get hit by a car, and you’re dead. You did nothing wrong except maybe forget the baggy at home to pick up the poop, and life just ended too short to really put your mark on it. So what do you do? You become a ghost and wreak havoc on all the drivers on the road. Heck that sounds like my life. Or better yet. My afterlife.

Here we go! The bad guys have shown their faces, and boy are they ugly! But in a good way because we don’t want no stinking pretty ghosts tearing up the place right? I hate those ghosts, especially the wimpy little girls with long hair covering her face like Samara and Cousin It. That’s not scary. That just begs for me to head to the nearest junk drawer, pull out a pair of scissors, and go to town on that ghost’s hair. Then ground her with no dinner or haunting of the house for a week. Don’t give me no “Boo!” boo.
Hotwire: Requiem For The Dead – Issue # 3 of 4
Radical Publishing | Based on a Story by Warren Ellis | Written and Drawn by Steve Pugh
Issue three is always important in a four issue series because its sole purpose is to lead the reader up to a point of no return.

The digital world of mobile content got a little bigger and brighter today with the launch of a new app for the iPhone from Dark Horse Comics. With the release of the upcoming Terminator: Salvation in mind, Dark Horse has chosen The Terminator: Death Valley, originally published in 1998, as its debut offering.
Featuring a story by Alan Grant and art by Steve Pugh, the four-issue Death Valley is available for download now both on iTunes and on Dark Horse Mobile for $0.99 an issue.
Dark Horse turned down multiple offers from various media developers and instead opted to develop the application in-house. The result is a reading experience that Dark Horse feels best utilizes the mobile platform and delivers the same standard of quality fans have come to expect from the industry leader. President Mike Richardson explains, “Dark Horse has always attempted to work with great creators in order to create great stories.

There’s a song that pops into my head from Juliette Lewis when I see a girl acting all tough and sex on a comic book cover. It’s quite soothing, hearing a woman’s sultry voice say it, so you can imagine the rush of blood while walking down the aisles of comic books sporting “bad girls” on the cover. It’s like getting a massage without being touched. The delicate wane of words singing “Born Bad” in the back of my mind when choosing the next gold star comic is well... not so bad. And then I watch Strange Days again, and go crazy for Lewis like I did when I was a teenager watching her roller skate in nothing but her skinny bikini bottom. Strange, and yet, exciting days I say.
