“La Dolce Vita” inspired a sweet flash mob performance of the iconic film score in Rome.
Composer Nino Rota crafted the soundtrack to Federico Fellini’s Oscar-winning 1960 classic about a tabloid journalist (Marcello Mastroianni) who searches for the beauty of Rome over the course of a week. The soundtrack is getting a re-release via record label Cam Sugar, and led to an impromptu performance of select “Dolce Vita” songs in front of the iconic Trevi Fountain in Rome.
The 10-piece Orchestra Roma Sinfonietta performed in the flash mob, organized by automaker Fiat along with the Rome Film Festival to promote the “La Dolce Vita” newly remastered re-release soundtrack, out October 21. The 14 tracks will be available on digital and vinyl.

With the awards season over, the Oscars handed out and more importantly, the film now on BluRay and DVD, you would think that would be the last we're likely to hear about one of 2011's best films, Nicolas Winding Refn's "Drive." But alas, there is still more to come.
In addition to being one of the finest films of the last twelve months, "Drive" also boasted one of the best soundtracks, a rare feat in which the music and the movie it's in are inseperable. And now, it's arriving in a new edition, a fancy pants vinyl release courtesy of Portishead member Geoff Barrow's Invada Records. No, this won't boast any extra new bells and whistles, but it will give hardcore audiophiles and fans a chance to listen to the songs by Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx, The Chromatics, Desire and Riziero Ortolani and the score by Cliff Martinez in all its analog glory.

I didn’t think I would have to insult the intelligence of our readers by pointing out a very simple fact, but based on the first comment we received, I guess I should make something clear. This is a list of our favourite soundtracks of 2011. We are currently working on a list of the best original scores, which should be posted sometime within the week. Let us know if you think we left out any soundtracks you would recommend. Enjoy!
10 – Young Adult
One of the themes of Jason Reitman’s upcoming film Young Adult, is the idea of being stuck in the past, and trying to relive your glory days, and so it’s no surprise that the soundtrack to the film is loathed with 1990s alt-rock cuts. Due December 6th via Rhino Records, the fifteen-track disc features the Replacements, the Lemonheads, Dinosaur Jr., Teenage Fanclub, Cracker, 4 Non Blondes, Veruca Salt and many more.

Ever since I saw it over in Cannes earlier this year, Drive has imprinted itself indelibly upon my psyche as one of the most effortlessly cool flicks of not only this year but any year. It is a curio of the highest order, consciously refusing generic traditions and reinventing the way tone and subject matter coexist on screen in a manner that is both jarring and hugely affecting.
The official soundtrack, by former Red Hot Chilli Peppers drummer Cliff Martinez follows the trend set by the film itself, hopping genres effortlessly, but retaining a fundamental linked essence through every track that builds up an identity as important to the film as Ryan Gosling’s Driver himself. Within the space of just nineteen tracks
A lot of commenters seem content to label Drive a “bad-ass” film, a grindhouse infusion of action and simmering indie drama, with a particularly brutal fascination with...
