Rachael Leigh Cook has done all that: She’s been a teen breakout star in an iconic high school comedy (“She’s All That”), transitioned to cringe sponsored movies (“Spirit Halloween”), and made the leap to Hallmark Christmas queen (“Tis the Season to Be Merry”). Now, she’s deftly parlayed her everywoman likability into the sweet made-for-Netflix movie “A Tourist’s Guide for Love.”
Yes, “made-for-Netflix” is a category all on its own. While “The Irishman” is considered to be a Netflix Original, “made-for-Netflix” separates the mass-produced movies like the nearly-perfect “Falling for Christmas” and calming background noise of “Murder Mystery 2” from the real Oscar contenders. It’s a sliding scale of quality under the streaming titan’s content umbrella, and Cook’s latest film, “A Tourist’s Guide to Love,” feels like an adaptation of a sweet viral BookTok romance novel — in the best way possible.

Though in my not so esteemed opinion, even the not so-hot ones had a roughshod, scattershot attitude that elevated them far above the generic knockoffs that this particularly unloved sub-genre would put out on a monthly basis. Some weeks, you’d get Just Before Dawn and others you get Splatter University.
The thing is, because of the profitability of these films, they were in cinemas for one week, made their budgets back and then zoomed out after making a decent killing (pun seriously unintended). They...

If you consider yourself a Final Exam fan, then picking up the Scream Factory Blu-ray is a no-brainer-you’re going to be more than pleased with their efforts on this release. For the uninitiated, Final Exam may or may not earn high marks from you, depending on your level of patience for a whole lot of talking and not much else.
Final Exam starts off promising enough with two college students parked one night who are attacked by a mysterious maniac (even though both actors seem less than terrified by their predicament). The following day, Final Exam then picks up over at Lanier College where we are introduced to a group of students who are in the midst of taking their final exams, so that they can finish up the semester and head home for the summer. Exclusive: Spike TV, which earlier this year signaled a return to scripted programming through event series, has added another such project to its development slate — a new look at the story of Tutankhamun, aka King Tut (1333 to 1323 BC), the youngest Pharaoh to rule Ancient Egypt. The six-part series, from Canadian production company Muse Entertainment (The Kennedys), is based on historical facts from recently discovered DNA evidence. It explores the drama of power, political backstabbing, war and murder and chronicles King Tut’s rise to glory, his efforts to rule a chaotic empire and the enigma surrounding his death. A young Tut is thrust into power after the murder of his father. The neophyte ruler is forced to marry his sister in order to maintain the dynasty. Although Tut rules as Pharaoh, he is controlled like a puppet by three formidable men who plot against him and vie for the throne themselves.

One of the long “lost” (I’ll use that loosely) horror movies that’s been absent on DVD ever since the birth of the format has been Final Exam (1981). The film was directed by Jimmy Huston (My Best Friend is a Vampire) and starred Cecile Bagdadi, in her only on-screen performance.
But on September 20th, Scorpion Releasing will be bringing the forgotten slasher to DVD, with a slew of extras.
At Lanier College, the semester is almost over. Exam week is coming to a close when some upper classmen play a prank by staging a phony terrorist attack. A killer without motive shows up on a college campus, as it is emptying out for summer vacation, to kill the remaining students on campus.
The idea of centering a slasher film around a killer without motive, without reason, without remorse, without identity, who just kills for the sake of killing, strikes an eerie chord. Sure some of the segments that help to establish who the characters are and what they are all about, are a bit too lengthy and drawn out, but Final Exam does strike this spooky kind of note throughout. It's never quite clear as to who's going to be the next victim, so there is a suspense as to how Final Exam is going to unfold. Final Exam also plays up to the inherent scariness of the film's...

When Lucio Fulci concluded The Beyond with the words "And you will face the sea of darkness, and all therein that may be explored", he might as well have been referring to the banner year of 1981.
Whatever your genre poison, 1981 delivered it in spades. Werewolves ruled the box office with films that not only redefined special effects artistry but remain stellar examples of modern lycanthropic horror – even today. Elsewhere, Satan's son reared his ugly head for a final conflict while David Cronenberg explored factions of warring psychics with Scanners. Sam Raimi's Candarian demons were unleashed in a Tennessee cabin while seemingly endless droves of slashers stalked theaters across the country. Wes Craven doled out one hell of a Deadly Blessing while The Boogens broke free from a Colorado silver mine, endearing themselves to a whole band of cult aficionados who've remained loyal to a film that, thirty years later,...

NBC is heading for "The Mountain."
The network is close to greenlighting a two-hour movie/backdoor pilot from Canadian production company Muse Entertainment.
The project, slated to begin shooting Oct. 21 in Montreal and Magog, Quebec, centers on a single mom with three kids who inherits a property from a supposedly dead uncle. During an impromptu visit there, they discover a treasure trove of history.
Michael Prupas and Jeff Grant are executive producing, with Joel Rice and Irene Litensky producing. Doug Barr is on board to direct.
Muse is known for such big-budget action-adventure miniseries as "The Last Templar" and "Impact," which aired this year on NBC and ABC, respectively, and ABC's upcoming "Ben-Hur."
In the past couple of years, the U.S. broadcast nets have been looking north for lower-license-fee acquisitions of drama series, including "Flashpoint" and the upcoming "The Bridge" on CBS, "The Listener" on NBC and "The Copper" on ABC.
