"Science-fiction anthology, Tales from the Apocalypse, featuring segments directed by the likes of Thomas Wilson Brown, Damon Duncan, and Gabriel Kalim Mucci, has been acquired by Uncork’d Entertainment for a July 2023, release.
Stories within Tales from the Apocalypse include one on an engineer circling a black hole in a pod, a 14-year-old girl and her father on the return journey to earth when an explosion cripples their aircraft, and a self-conscious Artificial Intelligence goes to the 4th dimension to fix humans future.
"The sci-fi equivalent of Creepshow or Trick R’Treat, Tales from the Apocalypse is a very imaginative, thrilling, and at times even quite scary assortment of stories from some very talented filmmakers.” said Keith Leopard, President Uncork’d Entertainment. "There’s great work here by Brown,...

On the JoBlo Movies YouTube channel, we will be posting one full movie every day of the week, giving viewers the chance to watch them entirely free of charge. Today’s Free Movie of the Day is the horror movie The Bone Box, which marked the feature debut of writer/director Luke Genton – and this really is a textbook first feature.
First-time filmmakers are often advised to make something that takes place in as few locations as possible, ideally just one for most of the running time, and with few characters. There’s no shame in it. A lot of notable directors have gotten their start with movies that follow this advice. Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead takes place in one location and has very few characters. George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead also does, for the most part (he did need a lot of zombie...

The disc of the year has finally arrived and it’s 1000 worth the wait. William Cameron Menzies’ flight into schoolboy paranoia now really looks like it ought to hang in the Louvre; the entire show is inspired Modern Art. When Martians conduct a brain-snatching takeover of Middle America little David MacLean must save the day, with an assist from an astronomer buddy and a sexy city nurse. The review is mostly concerned with how the new Ignite release looks and sounds. The rejuvenation of this fantasy masterpiece will turn fans of the 1950s sci-fi boom back into delighted ‘Gee Whiz’ kids.

This week’s new releases include the return of an iconic horror franchise and the sequel to a recent cult classic, and that’s just the tip of this particularly bloody iceberg.

We kick off the week with brand new animated movie Trick or Treat, Scooby-Doo!, which was released on Digital today ahead of the DVD release on October 18th.

"How many of you are there!?" Well Go USA has debuted an official trailer for an indie horror feature titled They Crawl Beneath, which will be out on VOD directly in the start of October. This practical effects-driven creature feature, reminiscent of the fun horror films of the 1950s, hasn't played at any festivals but still looks worth watching. If you dig creature features, give this a look. After an earthquake leaves Danny trapped and alone, his claustrophobic nightmare only gets worse when something truly horrifying emerges from the fissures in the ground, forcing him to engage in a brutal fight for his life—and his sanity. Joseph Almani stars, with Michael Pare, Arthur Roberts, Merrick McCartha, Karlee Eldridge, Elena Sahagun, and Natalia Bilbao. This looks like a distant cousin of Tremors, with practical monsters that emerge from the ground with giant teeth hungry to eat tasty humans. Might be a fun!

The creature has been revealed from the practical effects-driven sci-fi creature feature They Crawl Beneath, in which a young police officer trapped under a car after an earthquake has unleashed a fearsome monster.
“Young police officer Danny (Joseph Almani) is working on an antique car at his uncle’s remote ranch when a major earthquake hits, pinning him under the vehicle and leaving him bloodied, alone, and with no way to call for help. Just when he thinks the claustrophobic nightmare can’t get any worse, something truly horrifying emerges from the fissures in the ground, forcing Danny to engage in a brutal fight for his life—and his sanity.”
Directed by Dale Fabrigar, it also stars Michael Pare (The Lincoln Lawyer), Joseph Almani (Law of Attraction), Arthur Roberts (Not of This Earth), Christopher M. Dukes (Heaven’s Revenge), Karlee Eldridge (House of Bodies), Elena Sahagun (Tremors 3: Back to...

"Save the past, or change the future..." Bring on the future! This is the kind of ambitious sci-fi vision I love encountering. AI-pocalypse is a stunning, mind-bending new sci-fi short film from filmmaker Lin Sun. The film tells the story of a self-conscious Artificial Intelligence being who goes to the 4th dimension to fix human kind's future. Oh yeah, let's get into it. This is clearly inspired by Cloud Atlas and Sonmi-451's story, with similar storytelling (recalls her story to authorities while crying). But the final act of this short pushes it even further – literally into the 4th dimension. Which is awesome to see. Jiao Xu stars as Sonia, joined by Arthur Roberts and John Henry Richardson. The visuals in this are impressive for something made on a small scale. If this is only the first film Lin Sun has made, then I cannot wait to see what else he makes.

A group of mercenaries hired as contract killers are hunted down by the Mafia, the Yakuza, the Russian Mob, and the Tongs all at once. Syndicate Smasher is an action flick which is a homage back to the action films of the 80’s where the good guys are hard as nails and the villain’s shoot as accurate as a blindfolded storm trooper. In the end the bodies are piled high in this cheesy but fun action film which is best described on IMDb, in the trivia section, as “eligible for Guinness world record of most gunshots in film history!” Which pretty much sums up what sort of movie you can expect.

Enter the Ninja
The film that heralded the start of the ninja craze in the West, Enter the Ninja was one of many martial arts action films made by the uber-prolific producers Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus after they purchased Cannon Films in the late 70s.
Directed by Golan, Enter the Ninja tells the story of Cole (Franco Nero), a Westerner who is trained in the art of ninjitsu in Japan. Finishing his training he heads the Philippines to visit his war buddy Frank Landers (Alex Courtney) and his newlywed wife Mary Ann (Susan George), who are the owners of farm which is under attack from unscrupulous businessman Charles Venarius (Christopher George) because – unbeknownst to the Landers – there’s a huge oil deposit under their land! Of course having Franco Nero’s ninja on their side means that the Landers can easily see off Venarius’ henchmen. That is until he...

The ninja film isn’t widely loved like the samurai genre, and that’s mostly due to the lack of any significant ninja movies, especially compared to what Akira Kurosawa delivered in his career. This is a tad unfair, but let’s change that.
After directing Enter the Ninja in 1981, Menahem Golan wanted to follow this hit for his Golan-Globus Films (Cannon Films) with a sequel. In what has become widely recognized as one of the best ninja movies ever made, 1983′s Revenge of the Ninja features some of the coolest ninja action and violence, as well as sharp direction by the newcomer Sam Firstenberg, who would go on to direct some of the more popular films for Cannon Films, including American Ninja and Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogalo.
Director Sam Firstenberg chats with Killer Film about his breakout hit Revenge of the Ninja in another dose of Action Packed Flashback.

Dark Metropolis isn't all that new (in fact it just debuted on DVD this week), but somehow we missed it which means we have to quickly get our heads out of our a$$es and back in the game by posting about it now, and reviewing it as soon as Indican sends me a screener.
This indie scifi flick comes from Power Rangers co-creator Stewart St. John, so you can imagine my surprise when I realized it wasn't a fun romp pitting neon clad crusaders against giant rubber monsters. Quite the opposite. Dark Metropolis is like Thx-1138 meets Dune - which is to say it's dystopian with a heavy dose of spiritual mythos thrown in.
Synopsis:
Mankind has lost a 300-year war against a genetically enhanced race that man created, abused and finally tortured. Now the descendants of that race - known as the "Ghen" - control the planet Earth from advanced underground cities.

Starring: Traci Lords, Arthur Roberts, Lenny Juliano, Rodger Lodge, Ace Mask.
When Jim Wynorski (Chopping Mall) remade Roger Corman’s classic 1957 film Not Of This Earth, he made a bet with Corman that he could make his movie in a shorter amount of time. It is perhaps due to this, that Wynorski’s film is terrible--but for that, we love it.
I take it back, the film is terrible because its lead is an actress whose only experience previous to this came from doing underage porn. Again, this is why we love it.
When a mysterious stranger (Arthur Roberts) arrives in town, he hires Nadine (Traci Lords) as his private nurse. Although the pay is great, she becomes more and more suspicious of the stranger when his request for blood transfusions become more frequent.
