Powerpuff is officially powered down.
A live-action take on the Powerpuff Girls is no longer being redeveloped at The CW, TVLine has confirmed. The same goes for the Arrowverse offshoot Justice U, a female-led Zorro series, Jake Chang (which was to be based on a new-ish Archie Comics character), or any other prospective series left over from former CW president Mark Pedowitz’s regime.

Antonio Banderas famously portrayed the masked vigilante in 1998’s film The Mask of Zorro and its 2005 follow-up The Legend of Zorro. Banderas recently opened up about being game for a third installment of the franchise and who he would like to pass on the torch to play the titular character.
“Yes, I would, I would consider that possibility, why not?” Banderas told ComicBook of starring in a third film. “Yeah, I think today, I said something like that to somebody. They asked me about Zorro. If they called me to do Zorro, I would do what Anthony Hopkins did for me, which is to pass the torch.”
Banderas said that he would like to see his Uncharted costar Tom Holland behind the mask.
“I did Uncharted with him, and he’s so energetic and fun, and he’s got this spark too,” Banderas said. “Why not?”

For TV critics, this week’s theme is less-buzzy new versions of some of the buzziest shows of the past year. It will be a fun game to see how many reviews discuss Peacock’s The Resort without mentioning HBO’s The White Lotus in the first paragraph (when the more apt comparison is actually Apple TV+’s Acapulco) or Amazon’s Paper Girls without mentioning Netflix’s Stranger Things (when the more apt comparison is actually Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club).
The answer may be close to “zero.” (I won’t even try when it comes to Paper Girls.)
I have at least successfully avoided mentioning Showtime’s Yellowjackets until several sentences into my review of Netflix’s Keep Breathing, a so-called limited series that is unquestionably most easily described as a one-woman version of Yellowjackets without any of the sensationalistic — or “fun,...

The long-gestating Zorro TV series reboot with a female protagonist has moved a step closer to reality with an order for six additional scripts from the CW, bringing the script total to 7. As Deadline reported exclusively last month, the CW’s gender-swapped reimagining of the classic masked vigilante character hails from from filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, writer-director Rebecca Rodriguez, Sean Tretta (Mayans M.C.), Ben Silverman and Howard T. Owens’ Propagate and CBS Studios.
The pickup of backup scripts for Zorro joins three traditional pilot orders the CW made today, to Berlanti Prods.’ latest DC project, Gotham Knights, the Supernatural prequel The Winchesters as well as the Walker prequel Walker: Independence. This represents the bulk of the CW’s orders this pilot season, I hear there is a chance for one additional one that could be straight-to-series. The “Supernatural” prequel “The Winchesters,” the “Walker” prequel “Walker: Independence,” and the DC series “Gotham Knights” have all landed pilot orders at The CW.
In addition, the broadcaster has given six additional scripts for their “Zorro” project. Further details on that project can be found below.
“The Winchesters” was first reported as being in development back in June 2021. Told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), the show is the untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.
Robbie Thompson will serve as writer and executive producer on the pilot, with Thompson previously having been a writer and co-executive producer on the original show. Jensen and Danneel Ackles will executive produce via Chaos Machine, which has an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television. Wbtv and CBS Studios will co-produce.

Exclusive: Zorro is headed to the CW. The young-skewing network has put in development a gender-swapped reimagining of the classic masked vigilante character, from filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, writer-director Rebecca Rodriguez, Sean Tretta (Mayans M.C.) and Ben Siverman and Howard T. Owens’ Propagate. CBS Studios, where Propagate has a deal, is the studio.
This is a new incarnation of the project, which was in development at NBC during the 2020-21 cycle, with Tretta as a new addition to the brother-and-sister writing team of Robert and Rebecca Rodriguez.
Co-penned by the trio and to be directed by Rebecca Rodriguez, in Zorro, a young Latinx woman seeking vengeance for her father’s murder joins a secret society and adopts the outlaw persona of Zorro. I hear the story by Robert and Rebecca Rodriguez was already in place when Tretta, who has an overall deal at CBS Studios, came on board earlier this cycle to write the script.

Snowpiercer Season 2 Episode 8
Andre Layton has had to give up a lot for the greater good. He’s lost friends and lovers in the intrigues prior to the war, and more once the conflict turned bloody. He’s given up food to maintain Strong Boy. He’s struggled and scrapped, cashed in favors and given out new ones. He’s done everything he can do to get control of Snowpiercer and build a better world on Wilford’s train. And yet, when his revolution is about to turn full democracy, Wilford shows back up and kicks off an ersatz constitutional crisis, forcing Layton to declare martial law and become the very thing he overthrew: a benevolent dictator. Sure, things are different, but a dictator is still a dictator, and Andre Layton is just a Tailie; Mr. Wilford is the great engineer.

Snowpiercer Season 2 Episode 7
There’s always someone to fear on Snowpiercer. Till establishes it well during her cold opening narration. Seven billion lost in the deep freeze versus eight people killed by brutal violence on board the train. Death seems like it should be a familiar friend for the passengers on board, but when humanity’s population is down into four digits at best, it’s not surprising that every loss hits harder than the impossible to comprehend figure of seven billion. Even when that seven billion contains family and friends, it’s not the same as when one of the train’s most crucial departments gets decimated in a brutal surprise attack perpetrated by Wilford knows who.
The suspect in the Lights attack was the breechmen. So when the breechmen get mowed down, the logical suspect would be Lights’ companions in the Tail. When Third Class wants revenge,...

Hatewatchers had their tweeting thumbs at the ready on Wednesday as NBC lifted the curtain on Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Musical. But was this updated production of the 2006 Broadway show really the cringefest that many expected? Let’s investigate.
Sure, the sight of Matthew Morrison in the iconic character’s green skin and thicc physique was a little jarring at first. But if you think about it, aren’t most things he does a little jarring? Some of us are old enough to remember the time he inspired an entire group of high school students to master the art of twerking on Glee.

Frank & Lola, a noirish erotic thriller from journalist-turned-director Matthew M. Ross, finds leads Michael Shannon and Imogen Poots in top form. They excel as lovers in this tightly-wound psychosexual love story that has elements of the best of Eyes Wide Shut.
