“The Suicide Squad,” “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” “Coming 2 America” and “House of Gucci” lead the ninth annual Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild nominations (IATSE Local 706).
“The Suicide Squad,” released last August, was nominated in special makeup effects, contemporary makeup and contemporary hairstyling.
“The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” “Coming 2 America” and “House of Gucci” also landed three nominations, while “Dune” scored two nods. This bodes well for all the films which made the Oscar shortlist.
As previously announced, makeup artist Michèle Burke, known for her work on the Mission Impossible and Austin Powers franchises, and hairstylist Joy Zapata, who worked on “A Star is Born” and “Wonder Woman 1984,” will receive the 2022 Muahs Lifetime Achievement awards. The Distinguished Artisan award will be announced shortly.
The winners will be announced on Feb. 19 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The first of three 2021 Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremonies is underway, and Deadline is updating the winners list live as they are announced. Have a look at the trophy recipients and the night’s remaining nominees below.
The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will hand out Emmys in 37 categories tonight, with this year’s second and third ceremonies set for 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday. All three will have limited audiences but no red carpet. An edited version of the Creative Arts Emmys will air at 8 p.m. Saturday, September 18.
Netflix’s The Crown and Disney+’s The Mandalorian come into the Emmys with a leading 24 noms apiece. Among platforms, as usual the fight is between HBO and Netflix, with the combined HBO and HBO edging the streaming giant in total noms 130-129. Disney+ has 71 noms, following by NBC with 46 — a strong showing for a broadcast network in the age of streaming.

In between humming “Agatha All Along” or deconstructing the numerous Easter Eggs to be found hidden in each episode of “WandaVision,” there is also the chance to dazzle at the series’ amazing work in the hair and makeup fields. Each episode is a feast for the eyes, between the different hair techniques on Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda or Vision’s (Paul Bettany) various makeup looks.
Tricia Sawyer (make up) and Karen Bartek (hair) said much of the series’ looks were already laid out by director Matt Shakman. Both worked in different capacities for Marvel previously, with Bartek on both “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” so the pair was able to dive right in and start researching the different sitcom eras Wanda and Vision would live in.
Each episode, according to Bartek, started with a basic sitcom to work with, like “I Love Lucy” or “The Dick Van Dyke Show.

This is the second year for the Makeup and Hairstylists Guild joining the awards game, and they've been a welcome addition to the circuit. They spread their nods thin across a number of categories, but it's a good window into what this branch digs, for sure. This year, the only two films on the Academy's bake-off list of finalists that didn't garner any recognition were "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" and "Noah." Meaning "Foxcatcher," "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Guardians of the Galaxy," "Maleficent" and "The Theory of Everything" were each represented in one form or another. Meanwhile, "Guardians of the Galaxy" led with the most mentions at three, while "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Interstellar" and "Into the Woods" each got a pair. As previously announced, Oscar-winning make-up artist Rick Baker and Emmy-nominated hair stylist Kathryn Blondell will receive the Guild's Lifetime Achievement Awards. Check out the full list of nominees below,...
