- Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt was born on March 28, 1960 in Lyon, France. He is a writer and director, known for Temps de chien (1996), Odette Toulemonde (2006) and Oscar and the Lady in Pink (2009).
- Although starting his career as a dramatist, his is best known for his novels such as "Monsieur Ibrahim et les fleurs du Coran" (1999, "M. Ibrahim and the Flowers of Coran"), which was made into Monsieur Ibrahim (2003), and "Ma vie avec Mozart" (2005, "My life with Mozart").
- After being an agnostic for years, he has considered himself a Christian.
- Resides in Brussels.
- Graduated from the École normale supérieure in Paris, receiving a doctorate in philosophy (1985).
