Television archaeologists take note: you don’t need to dig deep into the medium’s origins to uncover a diamond in the rough. Treasures can be found in the recent past. And one of those treasures involves the greatest fictional archaeologist of them all, Indiana Jones.

Spoilers ahead. The Seventh Sign is a very strange movie. The 1988 film starring Demi Moore, Michael Biehn, and Jurgen Prochnow has its fans, but I can't say that I'm one of them. Directed by Carl Schultz (The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles), the film follows the very young Abby Quinn (Moore), a pregnant woman and housewife who rents out part of her home to a mysterious and weird lodger, David (Prochnow). The acting is good, but the script... well, there's A Lot to unpack in The Seventh Sign. Abby's baby is due on February 29, a leap year, and the date turns up as a weird omen. She tries to tell her husband Russell (Biehn) about it, but like most sane people, he isn't having any...

Australian actress Wendy Hughes dead at 61 (photo: Wendy Hughes in ‘Newsfront’) Australian film, television, and stage actress Wendy Hughes, best known internationally for the big-screen dramas My Brilliant Career and Careful, He Might Hear You, died of cancer early today, March 8, 2014, in Sydney. Hughes (born on July 29, 1952, in Melbourne) was 61. Wendy Hughes’ film career kicked off in the mid-’70s, with Tim Burstall’s psychological drama ‘Jock’ Petersen / Petersen (1974), in which she plays the wife of a college professor who becomes romantically involved with a married student (Jack Thompson). "I spent a lot of the time naked and doing sex scenes," Hughes would later recall about her work in ‘Jock’ Petersen, "because in the seventies you all had to do that." In 1979, Hughes landed a key supporting role in the international arthouse hit My Brilliant Career, Gillian Armstrong’s late 19th-century-set tale of an independent-minded young woman (a Katharine Hepburn...

★★☆☆☆ Carl Schultz's To Walk with Lions (1999) is one of those films which leaves you feeling bad if you're not enthusiastic about it. Starring Richard Harris, Honor Blackman and Geraldine Chapman, it is - like the story it sets out to tell - an admirable attempt at stirring and heartfelt drama. Also, akin to the story, the film is often grim, leaving the viewer feeling downbeat rather than inspired. We follow George Adamson (Harris), who continued the work of his wife Joy (Blackman) in running a sanctuary for African lions. Here, our man befriends a hotheaded young man called Tony Fitzjohn (John Michie) and takes him on as an aid.

There's something almost quaint about the new occult thriller from Darren Lynn Bousman, and not just because it's a low-key departure for the guy who directed three Saw sequels, a Mother's Day remake, and one of the craziest cult musicals since Rocky Horror. At times the somewhat dry, somewhat comfortably familiar horror tale known as 11-11-11: The Prophecy feels like a late-era Hammer feature (admittedly not one of the best ones) and, more often, it starts to feel a lot like a mid-'80s religious thriller. The movie 11-11-11 reminds me of most is Carl Schultz's The Seventh Sign. Yep, that goofy yet well-remembered piece of church-related horror starring Demi Moore that hit screens in 1988, promptly vanished, and...
