- Walter Sear was an early associate of synthesizer inventor Robert Moog. Sear not only used his Moog synthesizer on a number of movie scores (Midnight Cowboy, Let's Scare Jessica To Death), but also helped to develop the famous electronic musical instrument, acted as a sales representative, and even wrote an instructional book on synthesizer techniques.
- He pioneered the development of analog electronic music and recording. He was the founder of New York's first electronic recording studio, Sear Sound, whose clients included Sonic Youth, Steely Dan, Paul McCartney and Yoko Ono.
- He graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Temple University.
- He is survived by his wife, Edith; two daughters, Shana and Julia; two sons-in-law of James and Johan; grandfather of Adam, Maggie and Chris.
- He was a recording engineer, tuba designer, composer, tuba player, synthesizer pioneer, and vintage recording equipment expert.
- Father of Shana Gear Gaskill and Julia Sear; He is survived by his wife and three grandchildren.
- He graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1951 as a Tube player. He also studied electrical and mechanical engineering.
