The Jester opens as John walks alone at night. A figure in a top hat and orange suit, the Jester appears and disappears behind him.
A young girl appears in an alley and again in front of him. He calls the now grown girl, his daughter Emma who is not happy to hear from him. The Jester confronts him and as John pleads for his life conjures up a noose and, using his tie to control it, hangs him.
At his funeral, we find out he has another daughter Jocelyn (Delaney White; Pooling Evidence) who he had after walking out on Emma and her mother. The Jester also puts in an appearance much to the dismay of a pair of gravediggers.

Colin Krawchuck’s The Jester lends horror flicks a different and harrowing definition. Jester chronicles a sinister entity sporting an orange suit, a black hat, and clown makeup who kills people on Halloween Eve. However, evil does give his victims a chance to save their lives. From what it appears, Jester gives them a task, probably something like reflecting on past mistakes and making amends with their families. If they succeed, voila, they live to see another day, and if they don’t, Jester will kill them in a manner only he could think of. At the beginning of The Jester, we see a middle-aged man named John Wheeler (Matt Servitto) begging forgiveness from his daughter for what he did. Unfortunately, his daughter, Emma, was in no mood to hear him out. She disconnects the call, and with that, the man’s only hope of surviving.

This post contains spoilers for "Barry" season 4, episode 1, "yikes," and episode 2, "bestest place on the earth."
One of the most important relationships in "Barry" is between the eponymous hitman turned actor (Bill Hader) and his handler/honorary uncle, Monroe Fuches (Stephen Root). Fuches is the one who turned Barry into a hitman (he was already a killer from his military service in Afghanistan). So when Barry wants to try a new vocation and join the acting class of Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler), Fuches objects, knowing that spells the end of his gravy train. Their partnership falls apart over season 1, and they've now tried to kill each other multiple times.
Season 3 of "Barry" ended with a sense of comeuppance. After entrapment by Cousineau, Barry was finally arrested for killing Detective Janice Moss (Paula Newsome) — Cousineau's girlfriend — back in the season 1 finale. Fuches was arrested too, courtesy of Janice's father Jim...

“Al Capone will not be coming though,” VirtualCons CEO Michael Mota tells Den of Geek. “Those were the mobsters. I would say this would be the biggest gathering of mobster wannabes.” The Sopranos fan convention has come a long way since it was dreamed up by three gangster movie aficionados from New York, Maryland, and Rhode Island. The 2019 SopranosCon drew thousands of fans from as far as The Netherlands and the United Kingdom to the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus. "Tonight... we're going to bring it back to where it all began!" Neon has debuted a second full-length trailer for Vox Lux, the highly provocative, brilliant film by American actor-turned-filmmaker Brady Corbet (his second film after The Childhood of a Leader). This premiered at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals this year to some divisive reactions, with plenty of effusive praise. Vox Lux stars Raffey Cassidy and Natalie Portman (both) as a popstar named Celeste, profiling her rise to fame and fortune and glory. It spans 18 years, showing us her origin story and what she has become later in life. It's essentially the anti-a Star is Born movie, and it's incredibly bold in its message about how cyclical and connected everything (good & bad) in this world is. The cast includes Jude Law, Jennifer Ehle, Stacy Martin, Matt Servitto, Fred Hechinger, and Allison Winn. I saw this in Venice and loved...

"A twenty-first century portrait." Vanity Fair has released the first brief teaser trailer for a new film titled Vox Lux, the second feature made by actor Brady Corbet (who also directed The Childhood of a Leader). This is premiering at the Venice Film Festival starting this week, and it will also play at the Toronto Film Festival. Not much is known about this yet, but it stars Natalie Portman as a mega-famous popstar named Celeste. The short description explains that "an unusual set of circumstances brings unexpected success to a pop star." And supposedly the film spans 18 years, showing many major moments through her eyes. The cast includes Jude Law, Jennifer Ehle, Raffey Cassidy, Stacy Martin, Matt Servitto, Fred Hechinger, and Allison Winn. There is not much to this teaser, just her walking out on stage, but I am curious to see more - I've got a good feeling. And...

A review of the penultimate Banshee — and thoughts on recent episodes of the series — coming up just as soon as my boss catches me saying something inappropriate in the workplace... "Eventually, the lie took over. I believed it. I was the sheriff. I was a cop, and I liked it. I fuckin' loved it... Somehow, it just felt right." -Hood You may recall at the start of the season, I worried that the serial killer storyline was the one thriller cliche that even this show couldn't breathe new life into. If anything, my frustration with the arc only grew over time, as it just kept moving through the same beats every one of these stories has going back at least to Silence of the Lambs — up to and including the moment where it seems like the heroes are about to move in on the killer, only they're going through another door in another place entirely.

Welcome to the eighth installment of our summer trip through "The Sopranos" season 1. When I revisited early seasons of "The Wire," as well as the whole run of "Deadwood," I did separate versions of each review for newcomers and veterans, but over time realized that the newcomers weren't commenting much, if at all, and that it therefore made sense to simply do one review. Any significant spoilers for episodes beyond the one being reviewed will be contained in a separate section at the end of the review; so long as you avoid that, and the comments, you should be fine. Thoughts on the eighth episode, “The Legend of Tennessee Moltisanti," coming up just as soon as I devote my energies to the dignity of Connie Francis... "Where's my arc?" -Christopher And here we come to the meta — before it was even 100% meta. "The Sopranos" quickly became a hit for HBO...

As a drama, "Banshee" is preposterous. It is ludicrous. It regularly defies laws of both plausibility and physics, and there's usually at least one moment per episode where I have to pause the action because I can't stop laughing at how ridiculous it all is. And that is why I've come to love it. "Banshee" is a show that should have no business working at all, let alone returning for an incredibly strong third season Friday night at 10 on Cinemax(*). At first glance, the premise — ex-con assumes the identity of a small-town Pennsylvania sheriff — feels extremely limited, like something better-suited to a straight-to-Netflix movie than an ongoing cable drama, even on HBO's pulpier sister channel. The amount of mayhem visited on this small burg in the middle of Amish country, and the colorful nature of the people perpetrating said mayhem, makes the place often seem a closer approximation of Gotham...

Gary is too stupid, lazy, and kind-hearted to do his job well and is frequently stabbed in the back by his devious co-worker, Claude (Rowin). Plus, his boss Satan (Servitto) is immortal, which means that management positions are unlikely to become available soon. In Season 2, Gary learns how to appear on people’s shoulders to tempt them, we meet our first angel, and we find the answer to the question if there are women in hell. (Answer: yes.) Opening remarks
It’s not even February and, already, 2014 is shaping up to be a massive year for television. True Detective announced itself as the year’s first new stand-out series. Against all odds, Dan Harmon and Community returned and are putting together a respectable comeback season. FX’s fantastic and hard-working Justified continues to solidify its place among the greats of the past decade. And Girls‘ unique blend of comedy and drama is once again pushing the narrative boundaries of the half-hour series in its third season.
One series, though, is leading the charge at the beginning of the year. The most unlikely of heroes, Cinemax’s Banshee, in just a matter of three weeks, has matured into something truly special – something a lot of TV writers refer to as “appointment viewing” when describing other series. With limited experience dabbling in co-produced original programming, Cinemax released Banshee – its first...

Virgil Films acquired the U.S. rights to Foreclosure, a Richard Ledes-directed horror film that stars Michael Imperioli, best known for his work in mob sagas The Sopranos and Goodfellas. This is the third distribution arrangement between Virgil Films and writer-director Ledes, following Fred Won’t Move Out and The Caller, which both starred Elliott Gould. Submarine’s Josh Braun made the deal with Virgil president Joseph Amodei. They’ll put it out VOD early next year. Ged Dickersin is producer and Joseph Infantolino is exec producer. Related: Toronto: Virgil Acquires Bloodworth Thomason’s ‘Bridegroom’ Imperioli plays a man who takes his father-in-law and son to Queens to to the house of a recently deceased relative. The neighborhood has been decimated by foreclosures, but they try to get a fresh start in the house. Then stuff starts happening. Review James Stansfield 1 Jul 2013 - 23:15
James salutes an all-out action episode of Banshee, which draws its first impressive season to a close...
This review contains spoilers.
1.10 A Mixture of Madness
Over the last nine weeks, Banshee has presented us with a complex mix of character relationships, and more secrets than Laura Palmer’s diary, punctuated with breath-taking moments of violence. For its season one send off though, Banshee threw off the covers and romped through an hour of all-out action, capped off with a head-spinning final ten minutes.
For the first time since the pilot episode, the character given the most focus is Anthony Starr’s Sheriff Lucas Hood. Pre-credits and throughout the episode, we’re treated to some conversations Hood had with his parole officer halfway through his time in prison. We know Hood served his full fifteen-year sentence, so we immediately know this can’t end well...

Title: Hannah Has a Ho-Phase Directors: Nadia Munla and Jamie Jensen Starring: Meredith Forlenza, Genevieve Hudson Price, Quincy Dunn Baker, Mike C. Nelson, Matt Servitto, Kate McKinnon Agreeably cast but burdened with an overly predictable narrative and junior flyweight comedic punching power, New York-set indie “Hannah Has a Ho-Phase” is one of those post-”Bridesmaids” laffers (no matter its exact date of origin) that tries to put a Title IX spin on (slight) raunchiness and sexual acting out. The corporate world can be Hell, but according to Adult Swim’s horror sitcom "Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell," Hell is a lot like the corporate world. Filled with demon bosses, deadlines, and cubicles of doom.
As the series' season finale, “People in Hell Want Ice Water,” approaches at the stroke of midnight tonight (5/23), it was about time we got a bit of insight into the men behind the madness and red face paint. The show’s creators, Dave Willis and Casper Kelly, alums of Adult Swim series "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" and "Squidbillies," and cast members Matt Servitto ("The Sopranos," "The Mentalist"), Craig Rowan ("College Humor Originals," "The Onion Sportsdome"), and Henry Zebrowski ("Girls," Martin Scorsese’s upcoming The Wolf of Wall Street) sat down to discuss the origins of their diabolically funny series.
