Miley Cyrus was all smiles in Christmas pics with her fiance, Liam Hemsworth (yes, they're both wearing bands on their left ring fingers, and no, we don't think they're wedding rings either). And on Monday (Dec. 24), she gave her fans something to smile about too -- a video of her remake of Dolly Parton's 1973 hit "Jolene."
The performance was filmed this summer as part of Miley's "Backyard Sessions," during which the 20-year-old singer and her band performed some of her favorite songs. "Jolene" is the last in the series, which also included acoustic covers of Bob Dylan's "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go" and James Shelton's "Lilac Wine."
So did she do her godmother proud? (Yep! Dolly is Miley's godmother!) Check out the video below and judge for yourself. ...

Miley Cyrus took a moment to remind us all she's a singer, releasing the video for "Jolene." The song is a cover of Dolly Parton's 1974 hit.
The video was recorded during last summer's "Backyard Sessions," which feature the 20-year-old singer and her band playing some of her favorite songs. Fun fact: Parton is Cyrus' godmother.
These recordings have proved to be a pleasant surprise, as Cyrus has created several gorgeous acoustic covers -- including Bob Dylan's "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go," James Shelton's "Lilac Wine," and Melanie Safka's "Look What They've Done To My Song, Ma."
"Jolene" has us all the more curious about Cyrus' forthcoming album, which is being produced by Pharrell Williams, who has said the new record will sound unlike anything she's done before.
"Her sound right now is her personality," Williams told MTV. "That's what we've been aiming for...

Following the admission of an extramarital affair with his biographer, David Petraeus resigned from his position as CIA Director earlier this month. He's remained mum on the scandal in the weeks since, but now has opened up about how "I screwed up royally" in a new letter that he wrote to a friend.
The letter was revealed courtesy of Daily Mail. It was sent last week to one of Petraeus's closest friends, retired Brigadier General James Shelton. Shelton reportedly "considers himself a father figure to [Petraeus]."
In the letter, Petraeus writes that he "screwed up royally" and seemingly confirms that his wife Holly is extremely angry with him. However, he claims that "Team Petraeus will survive" and that he is "incredibly fortunate" to have married the woman that he did.
Shelton tells the Daily Mail, "I never knew David as being a woman chaser -- he never gave a damn about anybody other than Holly.

It looks like the daring new ‘do was only the beginning. The evolution of Miley Cyrus wouldn’t be complete without new music. Cyrus’ newly released cover of James Shelton’s 1950 classic “Lilac Wine” proves just how talented the 18-year-old singer really is. She’s no longer the teen phenomenon that needs to rely on the bells and whistles of modern pop...Read more»...

James Dean-esque musician Jeff Buckley has the "died too young" mystique, and that's been a big part of the devotion he's inspired in his fans, but there's another component as well: The guy was an actual, honest-to-God great singer.
When it was announced that "Gossip Girl" star Penn Badgley would portray Jeff Buckley in the indie biopic "Greetings From Tim Buckley" it was met with a hearty amount of skepticism, but it seems like the pretty boy actor might just be able to deliver in the singing department if a new YouTube video (via My Discman Broke) is any indication.
Badgley, who shot "Greetings" last year, decided to perform live in a club for the first time in his life this past weekend at Cameo Gallery, and played the cover of "Lilac Wine" from Buckley's 1994 album "Grace." You can compare it to the original here, and see that he's...

There hasn't been much press about the upcoming Jeff Buckley biopic Greetings from Tim Buckley, at least not since the bombshell dropped last summer about Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley playing the gone-too-soon musician. But over the weekend Badgley gave us Exhibit A in the case for why he might actually be the right pick: a live performance of a Buckley cover at the Cameo Gallery in Brooklyn.
Vulture pointed us to video footage of the show, in which Badgley performs the James Shelton song, 'Lilac Wine,' which Buckley covered on his album, Grace. We're finding the likeness pretty compelling...what do you think?
If that didn't do it for you, it may comfort you to know there are two other films based on Buckley's life in the works. When it rains biopics, it pours biopics. Listen to Buckley's version of "Lilac Wine" below.
