When you think of post-credits scenes, the first thing that probably comes to mind is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since the House of Ideas started putting them at the end of their movies in 2008 to tease whatever they had in store next, many other movies (mostly ones with superheroes in them) have followed suit and they've become trademarks of the genre at this point.
However, post-credits scenes aren't that new. "The Silencers" featured one in 1966. John Hughes utilized them in "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." And who can forget Animal's lovely send-off at the end of "The Muppets Movie"? So when it comes to Kevin Smith's "Clerks III," does the New Jersey native follow in the footsteps of some classic comedies that came before him?
Well, the answer to that is a little complicated. To address the question in this article's title directly, no, there...

Miramax and The Weinstein Company announced a new agreement today that will see them partner on the production of sequels to some of Miramax's best-known properties. The first films listed under the agreement are sequels to Bad Santa, Rounders and Shakespeare in Love. But it doesn't end there.
Other potential projects are film or television projects branching off from Bridget Jones's Diary, Copland, From Dusk Til Dawn, Swingers, Clerks, Shall We Dance and The Amityville Horror. The two companies have already been working together on the impending releases of Scream 4 (April 15, 2011), Spy Kids 4 (August 19, 2011) and Scary Movie 5. They'll also be collaborating on new special edition materials for Blu-ray releases of films from Miramax's back catalogue, which has me thinking the Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair may finally see the light of day.
While most of these projects seem pretty pointless to me, I think a Bad Santa sequel could be pretty fun.

Oh hey, did you hear? The Weinstein Company and Miramax came up with a totally genius idea to take a bunch of their best-loved and critically acclaimed movies and churn out unnecessary sequels (some that will likely go direct-to-dvd) or TV-spinoffs for them. First on the list are "Shakespeare in Love," "Rounders" and "Bad Santa," which will soon be followed by a third "Clerks," and third "Bridget Jones's Diary," and yet another "From Dusk Till Dawn," in addition to many, many other terrible ideas. I think I'm going to let "Clerks" creator Kevin Smith take it away from here for a little while.
"I sold the movie to [Miramax] in 1994," Smith wrote on his Twitter account. "But I guess if someone was going to exploit the library for sequels, remakes, TV, I'd rather it be the devil I know. Nice to know there's a home for 'Clerks III' if I ever wanted to make it,...

We reported earlier in the day that Miramax was partnering with The Weinstein Company to create a slew of sequels from the movies that it already owns. It beats original ideas, that’s for sure. Now, director Kevin Smith has commented on the development with a level head: “If someone was going to exploit the library for sequels, remakes, TV, I’d rather it be the devil I know. Nice to know there’s a home for Clerks III if I ever wanted to make it, but hope it doesn’t become a home for a Clerks-anything if I’m not involved. Either way, I doubt my shit is even something they wanna re-do/remake. [Miramax owns] Clerks, Chasing Amy, Jersey Girl and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. But then it’s further complicated by the Jay & Silent Bob of it all. They don’t own Jay & Silent Bob; I do. They...

Bob & Harvey Weinstein’s desperation to relive former glories continue. The struggling production company are banking on the return of the Scream and Spy Kids franchises next year to get them out of a financial hole, and now comes the surprising announcement of a deal with Miramax, the company they founded, left & recently lost a battle to re-purchase, to develop sequels to three of their highest profile hits.
Announced today in a press release are sequels to Bad Santa (which they have been trying to make for a while), the 1998 poker drama Rounders and most bizarrely of all, the Oscar winning Shakespeare in Love. What?
Let’s look at them one at a time…
Bad Santa 2 is probably the least surprising. Billy Bob Thornton has wanted to reprise his much loved drunken & offensive lout for years and recently mentioned to Collider that sequel talk had been ramping up again. Bad Santa...

Update: Kevin Smith has responded to the mention of a Clerks sequel. His note, via Twitter [1], is after the break. Original article follows. Now that the handover of Miramax to new ownership is really going forward, the company is making an interesting move. Miramax announced this morning that it will team with The Weinstein Company -- aka the men who founded and then left Miramax -- to produce sequels to a handful of Miramax titles. One of the first announced projects is a sequel to Bad Santa, which Billy Bob Thornton had recently discussed [2] as being a project of interest. Rounders and Shakespeare in Love sequels are also in the works, with more possibly to follow. More info after the break. Note that at this point we've got no idea about the creative teams for these films, so don't get too excited just yet. And given Kevin Smith's response,...
