Pixar is working away on Toy Story 5 – although even Tim Allen wonders if five may be too many…
It was earlier in the year that Disney boss, Bob Iger, decided to offset some of the company’s problems by announcing a raft of sequels to the firm’s megahits. Those films? Frozen 3, Zootropolis 2 and – yep – Toy Story 5.
It was back in 2019 that the Toy Story saga appeared to have come to an end at Pixar, with the just-about-got-away-with-it Toy Story 4. Realistically, Toy Story 3 was the perfect ending to the trilogy, but the fourth film had enough in the tank, and certainly enough in the bank. Spin-off movie Lightyear fell to Earth in the summer of 2022.
When Iger announced Toy Story 5 though, there was some suspicion as to whether the lead voices – Tom Hanks and Tim Allen – would be persuaded to return to voice Woody and Buzz again.

“Barbie” is a box office smash, along with its acclaim from critics and audiences alike. If you follow the social media chatter and the general feeling from most pundits, it could be a viable awards contender for Warner Bros. One category being debated is where the screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach would be able to compete — whether in original or adapted screenplay. The answer lies in how the WGA classifies it and whether the Academy could or would overrule that choice.
Variety confirms there are ongoing conversations with strategists and Warner Bros regarding where “Barbie” would compete at next year’s ceremony.
On the title cards, it reads “Based on ‘Barbie’ by Mattel,” which is, of course, a toy company. At the same time, there have been multiple CGI films and TV series featuring the fashion doll since its debut in the late 1980s (42 to be precise). This...

The Ballantyne Strong, Inc. subsidiary’s first original feature film adapts Norman Miller’s book, The Great Salad Oil Swindle. Much is made of Joss Whedon's work before his name became a loaded one in the pop culture sphere. But one part of his career gets little mention, despite its fascinating variety: Whedon was a script doctor, tweaking the likes of Kevin Reynolds' "Waterworld" (uncredited) and the mid-90s action banger "Speed." Between his "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" feature script and the later WB series of the same name, Whedon had a stint writing for Disney, earning a credit on a 1995 animated movie about little toys with big feelings.

What makes a brilliant script? Is it quotable lines? Is it nuanced dialogue? Or is it just the ability to move the story along and not get in the way? When looking back through the history of screenwriting, there are plenty of iconic films based on previous work; the Writer’s Guild of America voted Casablanca the greatest screenplay of all time, but it’s adapted. So, what is the most important piece of film writing ever written directly for the screen? This list will shift from American to international, conventional to unconventional. Most importantly, these are the scripts that demonstrate how “screenwriting from scratch” is done.

Joss Whedon is about to have a very good week. The writer/director/producer has, until recently, been best known for his work on television: he turned his poorly-received screenwriting debut "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" into one of the most beloved cult series of all times (which itself got a long-running spin-off, "Angel"), and followed it up with the short-lived but passionately followed sci-fi Western "Firefly," a show that lasted a single season, but managed to get its own cinematic sequel, "Serenity," which marked Whedon's big-screen directorial debut.
Until now, "Serenity" has been the director's best-known entry into the movies, but that's all about to change. He wrote and produced the inspired, raucous horror flick "The Cabin In The Woods," which hits theaters on Friday, and tonight sees the world premiere of "The Avengers," the Marvel superhero team-up movie that is one of the most keenly anticipated films of the year,...

The screenwriting duo has credits on Toy Story, Money Talks, Cheaper By the Dozen, Evan Almighty, Daddy Day Camp, and both Garfield flicks. Regardless of this resume, the pair keeps getting new gigs, and they've found a rather lucrative new niche: they're about to be the guy(s) adapting one of Facebook's most outrageously popular games... IGN has new information that indicates Cohen and Sokolow may be getting ready to pen a Farmville movie. Let that sink in. (Slashfilm reminds us that there is also an Angry Birds movie on the horizon as well.) For the three people who might not know, Farmville is a Facebook game that asks you to run a farm...

If you have still managed to escape the draw of social media games, then you won't be able to evade them much longer. Rumor has it that a Farmville movie adaptation is in the works, and could be coming to a movie theater near you pretty soon.
IGN interviewed "Toy Story" and "Garfield" scribes Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen recently and the writing duo dropped some pretty big news. Though they didn't say it outright, they did tease that they're working on a big, farm-related film project for "Farmville" creators Zynga.
"We will continue writing movies," they shared. "We are also working on several new and very exciting opportunities. We're in conversations with Zynga to do something with one of their brands. Can't really say too much on that front yet, but 'Old MacDonald' didn't have a factory, if you get our drift."

"Toy Story" writers Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen have revealed that they may be in talks to pen a film based on "Farmville", the 2009 farming simulation social network game that's popular on Facebook.
The pair told IGN that despite working on writing games at the moment, they "will continue writing movies. We are also working on several new and very exciting opportunities. We're in conversations with Zynga to do something with one of their brands. Can't really say too much on that front yet, but 'Old MacDonald' didn't have a factory, if you get our drift."
Zynga refused to comment and certainly there hasn't been any speculation as to a potential "Farmville" movie before now. The game itself various aspects of farm management such as land plowing, planting, harvesting crops and raising livestock.

Back in June we heard the first of the Facebook games, Zynga's Mafia Wars, had been optioned for a jaunt on the big screen. Thankfully we haven't heard anything since, so at least for now we don't have anything to worry about, Mafia Wars wise. But unfortunately, it seems Zynga is pretty keen on expanding their brand movie wise, as they're apparently moving ahead on an adaption of another their game famous games, Farmville.
IGN recently spoke with Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen, best known as two of the four writers on the original Toy Story, and apparently the pair are already working on a movie adaption of Farmville. When asked on their latest projects, the pair coyly revealed they are "working on several new and very exciting opportunities" and that they've been in contact with the guys at Zinga about a project. We’ve already seen Facebook being turned into a movie, so its only fair that its games be turned into one as well. Cinemablend (via IGN) is reporting that Toy Story writers, Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen, may be working on a movie version of Farmvillie. During the interview they revealed that they have been working on several new project and have been in contact with Zynga, the creators of Maifa Wars and Farmville. They added that they cannot reveal too much, but said that “Old McDonald did not have a factory.”
At first you may think this is a joke, but who knows how this could really go. Maybe they will play off the same stories as Toy Story and tell what happens to the famers and farm animals when the user is not around. Farmville remains on of Facebook’s top played games, only behind Cityville and The Sims Social.

File this one squarely under “unnecessary.” During an interview with IGN, Toy Story scribes Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen (not Coen) hinted that they’re currently in talks to write a Farmville movie. As they said:
“So, yes, we will continue writing movies. We are also working on several new and very exciting opportunities. We’re in conversations with Zynga to do something with one of their brands. Can’t really say too much on that front yet, but ‘Old MacDonald’ didn’t have a factory, if you get our drift.”
For the lucky few who don’t know, Zynga is a social network games developer who make video games that are light on story and heavy on addictive repetition. (They’re the reason all your friends sent you annoying Mafia Wars invites a few years ago.) In addition to helping with Toy Story, Sokolow and Cohen also wrote the Garfield movies,...

Yes, you read that title right. If you thought an Angry Birds film (here) was ridiculous, then how about Farmville? Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen hinted to IGN they could be working on a film adaptation of the Facebook game. “So, yes, we will continue writing movies. We are also working on several new and very exciting opportunities. We’re in conversations with Zynga to do something with one of their brands. The game used to be very popular on Facebook, and it seemed you couldn’t even log into the social networking site without someone inviting you to play the game. However, the popularity of the game has lessened recently with other games such as Cityville and The Sims Social.

IGN caught up with "Toy Story" writers Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen to find out what they're currently working on. The duo revealed that they are developing a film based on the popular Facebook game "Farmville." "Yes, we will continue writing movies. We are also working on several new and very exciting opportunities. We're in conversations with Zynga to do something with one of their brands," said the pair. "Can't really say too much on that front yet, but 'Old MacDonald' didn't have a factory, if you get our drift." It's unclear what the film will actually be about, but here is the description of the game: The player begins with an empty farm and a fixed starting amount of "farm coins," the primary currency in the game. Players also earn Xp (experience points) for performing certain actions in the game such as plowing land or buying items. At certain Xp benchmarks,...

Facebook games being turned into movies sadly isn't something new. Back in June of last year it was reported that Zynga's Mafia Wars was being looked at to be adapted, but fortunately we haven't heard anything else about it since. Sadly Zynga apparently really has a hankering to get into the movie business, however, because it looks as though another one of its games is looking to get the big screen treatment. IGN recently spoke with Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen, best known as two of the four writers on the original Toy Story, and the pair coyly revealed that they may be working on a movie version of Farmville. When asked about what projects they are currently working on, the pair revealed that they are "orking on several new and very exciting opportunities" and have been in contact with Zynga about a project. In a development that is sure to make Facebook users look up from their games for at least a moment, IGN is reporting that the screenwriting duo behind the beloved 'Toy Story,' Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen are in negotiations to write the screenplay for a film based on 'Farmville.' Here's what the two had to say: "So, yes, we will continue writing movies. We are also working on several new and very exciting opportunities. We're in conversations with Zynga to do something with one of their brands. Can't really say too much on that front yet, but 'Old MacDonald' didn't have a factory, if you get our drift." For those unfamiliar, (you must not have wives or girlfriends with access to a computer) the game is from Zynga and is a farming simulation browser based game on Facebook. It's particularly cutesy and could lend itself well to animation,...

Toy Story screenwriters Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen recently revealed in an interview that they are currently in talks to write a feature film based on the popular Zenga game Farmville.

When many of us think of video games we think of the staples: games played on consoles or computers. It's only in the past few years that mobile phones and social networking platforms have created a whole new batch of casual gamers. Games like Words With Friends, Angry Birds and Farmville are now as popular, if not more so, than stuff like Halo or Mortal Kombat. And while those console games keep getting turned into movies, the newer, more social games have been on the outside looking in. That might be changing, though. An Angry Birds movie has been in development [1] for some time, and IGN recently spoke to Toy Story writers Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen, who strongly hinted they could soon be writing a Farmville movie. Thanks to IGN [2] for this scoop. Here's the quote: So, yes, we will continue writing movies. We are also working on several new and very exciting opportunities.

It's been reported today that the director of Hop, Tim Hill, is in talks to direct Walter The Farting Dog. The movie is going to be produced by Mary Parent and the Farrelly Brothers. The Farrelly’s were originally set to direct the film when it was at Fox, but now that the plans have changed now that the film is over at Paramount.

Walter is based on a series of children's books written by William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray, and illustrated by Audrey Colman, about a family living with an exceedingly flatulent dog. Toy Story co-writers Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow have written the screenplay adaptation.
I have never heard of this book series, I'm not even a big fan farting dogs, but it sounds like something any kid would like to watch. Let us know what you think.

It pains me to say this, but apparently Tim Hill, the director of Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, Alvin and the Chipmunks and Hop, is apparently is high demand. Just yesterday it was reported that the filmmaker has been hired by Dimension Films to helm a remake of Short Circuit and now he's landed yet another gig. THR has it that Hill has been selected and is currently in negotiations to helm Walter the Farting Dog for Paramount Pictures. The Farrelly brothers, who were attached to direct while the project was still over at Fox, will now serve as producers along with Mary Parent, the former worldwide motion picture group chairman at MGM. Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow, who wrote the Garfield sequel that Hill also directed, wrote the script based on the books by William Kotzwinkle, Glenn Murray, and Audrey Colman. Alvin and the Chipmunks and Hop director Tim Hill looks like he's lining up a busy schedule. Just yesterday it was announced that Hill would tackle the reboot of the Short Circuit franchise and, today, The Hollywood Reporter has word that he's been approached about helming Walter the Farting Dog . Based on a best-selling series of books by William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray about a fat dog with severe flatulence, the film adaptation was first announced nearly three years ago when the property was at 20th Century Fox. There, it was being planned for the Farrelly Brothers to direct and the Jonas Brothers to star. With a script by Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen, the property is now in development at Paramount and is likely open to be recast.
