Just After Dawn on the morning of May 15, 2019, more than a dozen cops arrived at a home in the placid suburb of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey. Armed with a search warrant, they ordered a member of the household to sit down and denied her access to her cellphone. Similar searches took place at other properties in Woodstock, New York, and Brooklyn. When it was over, according to court documents, the police left with cellphones, Usb drives, iPads, 1,300 pages of “physical documents,” four Apple MacBooks, and files filled with banking records.

Up until today, not many music fans knew the name Noeline Hofmann. That’s to be expected: The 20-year-old indie country singer lives the rural life in Southern Alberta, Canada, and only recently appeared on the radar of the music industry. Credit at least a little bit of that awareness to Zach Bryan.
Bryan recruited Hofmann for his Belting Bronco web series, in which artists perform in the back of the songwriter’s Ford. For Hofmann, that meant singing her song “Purple Gas,” a ballad about life on the Canadian...

We are living in a time when Hollywood is actually making a lot of musical biopics, so it does not surprise us that one of the biggest musical artists of all time, Michael Jackson, will also be the center of an upcoming biopic. Lionsgate has acquired the rights to his story, and the upcoming film Michael is currently set for an April 18, 2025 release. The movie is a gamble due to Jackson being a controversial figure, but from what we can deduce, the executives at Lionsgate have a lot of confidence in the project.
Jim Packer, president of worldwide television distribution at Lionsgate, recently talked to the media and revealed his enthusiasm over the upcoming film, claiming that it will be Lionsgate’s biggest project of all time!
Packer told the media about his confidence in the movie, going as far as to claim that it is the studio’s biggest project ever.

Sometime in 1984, when E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg saw a bunch of potential covers for Bruce Springsteen’s next album, he instantly noticed the Annie Leibovitz shot of the singer’s jeans-clad rear end. “My comment, jokingly, was ‘I like that one because that’s the view I always have,'” Weinberg says in the new episode of our Rolling Stone Music Now podcast. “Everybody laughed, and then they picked that shot. Taylor Mac, the Pulitzer Prize-nominated performance artist and playwright, once spent 24 hours on a Brooklyn stage reexamining the American songbook while wearing ornate drag. Mac’s A 24-Decade History of Popular Music devoted one hour to each 10-year span since 1776, tracing U.S. history — particularly that of marginalized groups — through a glittering series of vignettes including “Yankee Doodle,” minstrel numbers, the Carousel aria “Soliloquy,” Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” lesbian anthems from the ’90s and much, much more. Mac spent six years performing the show in small chunks around the world before mounting it as a one-time endurance test that ranked among 2016’s most acclaimed cultural events.
A mere 650 people got to witness Mac’s feat live, but thanks to Oscar-winning directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman (Common Threads: Stories From the Quilt, about the large-scale project that memorialized AIDS victims), it’s been condensed and preserved via HBO.

Brother Marquis, a member of the hip-hop group 2 Live Crew, has died at the age of 58.
2 Live Crew’s manager confirmed Brother Marquis’ death to TMZ on Monday, June 3rd. The cause of his death appears to be the result of natural causes, but details were not immediately known.
Born Mark Ross on April 4th, 1966, Marquis began rapping in his teenage years, eventually landing on the radar of 2 Live Crew’s Mr. Mixx in the ‘80s for his rap battle skills. After a position in the group opened, Mr. Mixx offered it to Marquis, who flew to Florida to join.
From there, the group — consisting of Mr. Mixx, Marquis, Fresh Kid Ice, and Uncle Luke (then known as Luke Skyywalker) — leaned into their humanistic sensibilities, and started gaining notoriety for raunchy, sexual songs, like “We Want Some Pussy” and “Throw the ‘D.’”

Bruce Springsteen has always been able to put on a great live show. In his decades of live performances, Springsteen has stretched the limits of how long a concert can be. He puts on electric performances that thrill fans. While this has kept his career moving, it was once a bad thing for him. He put on a show so successful that the venue fired him.
Bruce Springsteen put on such a good show that he got fired
In the early days of Springsteen’s career, he heard New Jersey musician Southside Johnny was playing a show with Steven Van Zandt at a local bar. Springsteen took his guitar to the bar to join them.
“The place was packed and we rocked the joint like old times, with the crowd cheering, everyone glued to the stage and the music,” Springsteen wrote in his book Born to Run. “It was a great night all around.

“Following yesterday’s postponement in Marseille due to vocal issues, further examination and consulting has led doctors to determine that Bruce should not perform for the next ten days,” the band said in a statement released on Sunday. “With this in mind, additional postponements are required for Airport Letnany in Prague (originally scheduled for May 28th) and San Siro Stadium in Milan (originally scheduled for June 1st and 3rd). The Beach Boys are back.
The seminal American band, responsible for such tunes classics as “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “Surfin’ U.S.A.” and “Good Vibrations,” originally consisting of brother Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine, are getting the feature-length rock doc treatment. And with good reason – the story of The Beach Boys, a band known for their sunny disposition, is fraught with tragedy, disloyalty and acrimony. But all of that pain went into their music, creating something simultaneously euphoric and melancholy. And it will all make for a very juicy documentary – just in time for summer!
When does “The Beach Boys” come out?
“The Beach Boys” premiered Friday, May 24. Just in time for the long Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial kick-off to summer.
Is “The Beach Boys” streaming or in theaters?
“The Beach Boys” is streaming exclusively on Disney+.

Stevie Van Zandt has taken Low Cut Connie’s 2023 song “Are You Gonna Run?” and given it some E Street Band flavor in a new remix.
The song originally appeared on Low Cut Connie’s 2023 LP Art Dealers. “The new version is just thicker sounding, kind of unapologetically classic rock,” Adam Weiner a.k.a. Low Cut Connie tells Rolling Stone. “The original is really sweet but a little more mysterious. The new version isn’t mysterious at all. It’s desperate and honest. His voice and guitar has that...

Kicking off the start of Summer with the big Memorial Day weekend, a new documentary poses the question: What’s the “go-to” music for this season? Well, for the past 63 years, it’s been these pop icons out of Hawthorne, California, of course. Their signature songs invoke memories of ocean waves hitting the sand as eager athletes run through the foam with their trusty boards. Interestingly only one member of the original band surfed, though when watching a blonde adonis catching a “tasty wave”, you automatically, in your head, recall the sweet infectious harmonies of The Beach Boys.
After opening with glorious footage of an electric 1975 outdoor concert (naturally in the bright Summer sun), the doc springs back 15 or so years to the modest suburban home on 119th Street when the eldest Wilson brother Brian became fascinated by the careful vocal craftsmanship of the Four Freshmen along with other musical acts.

For years, Sen. Amy Klobuchar has sought to reform the concert industry. On Thursday, the Department of Justice filed a lawsuit to break up Live Nation and Ticketmaster’s alleged monopoly on the U.S. touring industry, claiming that the businesses have been feeding on ticket buyers since merging in 2010. (Live Nation issued a lengthy statement denying charges that it is a monopoly, claiming the lawsuit “attempts to portray Live Nation and Ticketmaster as the cause of fan frustration with the live entertainment industry.”.)

The Media Bill looks set to become law in the UK, meaning landmark new rules for streaming services including Netflix and Disney.
The House of Lords passed the Media Bill on Thursday evening as lawmakers rushed to ensure the legislation can receive Royal Assent before Parliament is dissolved ahead of an election.
The Media Bill has been years in the making, but Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s decision to call a snap election on July 4 put the legislation in jeopardy at the eleventh hour.
The bosses of the BBC, ITV, Paramount-owned Channel 5, and Comcast-owned Sky all signed a statement today urging politicians to pass the Media Bill before a change of government.
“As leading CEOs from the UK broadcasting industry, we call on politicians across Parliament not to let the opportunity to modernise the rules that govern our sector pass,” they said.

Over the past week or so, Apple Music has slowly unveiled the titles included in its list of the “100 best albums.” Today, the top 10 albums were revealed, with Miss Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill claiming the No. 1 spot. Rounding out the top five are Michael Jackson’s Thriller; The Beatles’ Abbey Road; Prince’s Purple Rain; and Frank Ocean’s Blonde.
The top 10 also includes Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life; Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city (Deluxe Version); Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black; Nirvana’s Nevermind; and Beyoncé’s Lemonade.
In all honestly, it’s a pretty safe top 10, especially considering the drama that unfolded when Apple unveiled picks 11-20 and slotted Adele’s 21 at No. 15 and Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) at No. 18 — ahead of albums like Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds,...

In 1982, Bruce Springsteen released the album Nebraska. Though he intended to record the album with the E Street Band, he ultimately did not require their backing. Instead, he released the sparse, bleak songs as he had initially recorded them in his home. Nebraska would go on to be one of Springsteen’s most highly acclaimed albums, but he said the process of making it was very lonely.
Bruce Springsteen said the process of making 1 album was lonely
By 1982, Springsteen was a bonafide rock star. Despite his success, though, he began to feel a yawning despondency within himself.
“I just hit some sort of personal wall that I didn’t even know was there,” he told CBS News. “It was my first real major depression where I realized, ‘Oh, I’ve got to do something about it.'”

In 1975, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band put on their first concert in England. The show, which was filmed and would go on to become a live album, was not a pleasant one for Springsteen. He was nervous about the show, and the way the theater welcomed him did not help. He shared why the celebratory way the venue advertised the show infuriated him.
Bruce Springsteen was not happy ahead of an early concert
When Springsteen arrived at the Hammersmith Odeon theater in England, he winced at the way the venue advertised his act.
“As we pulled up to the outside, the brightly lit marquis reads, ‘Finally!! London Is Ready For Bruce Springsteen.’ Reflecting, this is not exactly the tone I’d have preferred been struck,” he wrote in his book Born to Run. “It feels, perhaps, a little too … presumptuous? Once I am inside I am greeted by...

Larry David’s beloved comedy series “Curb Your Enthusiasm” is gearing up for a grand showing at the Primetime Emmys. The 12th and final season of the HBO/Max series has submitted for 35 nominations, including the top prize for outstanding comedy series.
Playing a fictionalized version of himself, David is again vying for the lead comedy actor category. He hopes to unseat last year’s winner and current frontrunner, Jeremy Allen White from “The Bear.” Though David is a two-time Emmy winner for writing and creating “Seinfeld,” he has yet to win as an actor despite six nominations, the last of which came in 2008.
Supporting actors J.B. Smoove, Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, two-time former nominee Cheryl Hines and Tracey Ullman will also compete in the main acting categories, as well as a posthumous submission for Richard Lewis, who died in February.

Bruce Springsteen normalized three-hour-long concerts and has seemed to come alive onstage for decades. He has spoken about the way live performance invigorates him, but he said one show was a bit too much. While Springsteen was still early in his career, he played a show in London. He said he went into it in a terrible headspace.

In 1975, Springsteen and the E Street Band traveled to London as part of the Born to Run tour. Immediately upon arriving at the Hammersmith Odeon theater, Springsteen began to feel uncomfortable.

Shortly after the dissolution of Buffalo Springfield in 1968, Neil Young teamed up with the core members of struggling L.A. rock band the Rockets, renamed them Crazy Horse, and spent the next five decades working alongside them. Their first record was 1969’s Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, featuring classics like “Down By The River” and “Cowgirl In The Sand.”
But their early recording sessions produced a lot more music than the seven songs on Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, and Young is finally sharing this music on June 28 with the release of Early Daze.

Bruce Springsteen has written many songs over the years, but he said that only one touches on his relationship with his paternal grandparents. His grandparents played a major role in his life; he shared a house with them in his earliest years. The song was an emotional ode to childhood days with his grandparents, but it went unreleased. He said that he just didn’t think it was very good.
Bruce Springsteen wasn’t impressed with a song he wrote about his grandparents
Springsteen spent his earliest years in Freehold, New Jersey, in a house on Randolph Street. He lived in the home with his parents, grandparents, and younger sister. He described the house as tipping increasingly into disrepair.
“Our house was old and soon to be noticeably decrepit,” he wrote in his book Born to Run. “Our kerosene stove in the living room was all we had to heat the whole place.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have become rock royalty, but there are still many artists Springsteen admires. Like many musicians in his generation, Springsteen grew up listening to The Beatles. There was another band that thrilled him from a young age, though.
Bruce Springsteen said one band changed the course of his life
In 2015, Springsteen presented The Who’s Pete Townshend with the Stevie Ray Vaughan award. In his speech, Springsteen spoke about his experience seeing The Who when he was a teenager.
“I was a young, pimply-faced teenager who managed to scrap enough together to go see my first rock concert ever,” he said, per Rolling Stone. “Pete and the Who were young pimply-faced teenagers with a record contract, a tour and a rude, aggressive magic. They were on this tour, of all things, opening for Herman’s Hermits [laughter]. There was no justice.”

Rita Ferro, president of global advertising at Disney, emphasized the company’s reach during the company’s upfronts presentation to advertisers Tuesday.
Before detailing the company’s daily interactions with half the world’s population, its industry-leading 11.5% share of content distribution in April (according to Nielsen) and its “billions of consumer touchpoints,” Ferro got animated.
