"Avatar" won two trophies at the 57th annual Golden Reel Awards given by the Motion Picture Sound Editors (Mpse). James Cameron's game-changing sci-fi film took home Best Sound Editing of Music in a Feature Film award and Best Sound Effects and Foley in a Feature.
The Mpse also honored Steven Spielberg with its 2010 Filmmaker Award.

I'm pretty happy and honored to get to step in for Mr. Stambler as the inaugural columnist for September's theme of Budgeting and Scheduling. Scott is hard at work on a major studio feature right now and is "up to his neck" as he put it, so I told him I'd fill his slot with something beneficial. Filling Scott's shoes is no easy task, so with a little luck and a lot of forgiveness from you guys, we might make it through this! :op

Hey SCOREcasters! Can you believe August is here already? For me at least, this year is flying by at pretty heavy duty rate of exchange and lately it's been hard to see the numbers that seem to be a blur on my calendar. As summer comes to a close and we anticipate all that comes with the transition into the final season of the year — school starting, cooler weather, our favorite sports teams back in action, etc. — there is always one thing that I look forward to: The Fall TV Season.
Officially, Fall TV kicks off during the week of September 20, but around here at SCOREcast, it began about a month ago. Add to that the fact that many alternate networks are debuting shows out of the regular season grid to compete with the Big 4, and you have one gigantic and confusing slate of programming hitting all at once.

The temporary score (a collection of pre-existing music utilized during the editing) is a controversial creative aid which was first utalized by the editors to keep some rhythm to their works. Today the job of producing and editing temporary track is a whole job onto itself. In the following article you'll hear a lot more about this job from two of Hollywood's top temp editors: Scott Stambler is a frequent collaborator of Rob Reiner and served as a temp editor on such features as Forrest Gump, The Kingdom and most recently on Tropic Thunder. Mark "Vordo" Wlodarkiewicz does a variety of music editing jobs which naturally includes temp editing: his most recent credits include Eragon, The Simpsons Movie and yes, he worked on Tropic Thunder as well.
