Ryan Murphy’s “Dahmer” Netflix series just launched to some impressive premiere numbers, and considering how many people checked out the true crime limited series in its first week, its ’80s and ’90s-infused soundtrack is no doubt of interest.
Jeffrey Dahmer was one of the most notorious serial killers in American history. In the 1980s and early 1990s, he committed a series of brutal murders, often dismembering his victims and keeping body parts as souvenirs. His crimes horrified the nation and captivated the media.
The Netflix limited series “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” chronicles Dahmer’s childhood and early adulthood, leading up to the first of his murders in 1978. It explores the events that shaped him into a serial killer, and the police investigation that eventually led to his capture. It’s hard to believe that he evaded escape for so long, given the lack of complexity in planning and executing his crimes.

Serving up an unforgettable night of music, Nordoff Robbins' Get Loud 2018 delivered an evening of incredible shows, raising awareness of the life-changing work they do and the power of music therapy.
Spanning across ten unmissable shows, thousands threw themselves into a life-affirming evening of phenomenal music, in a UK-wide celebration of Nordoff Robbins music therapy and how music can change lives. It was headed up by an unstoppable night down on the seafront, as Brighton rocked to Get Loud. Performing one of their smallest sets in over two decades, All Saints served up a sermon on why they remain untouchable in modern pop with bangers such as ‘Pure Shores’ and ‘Never Ever’ setting off a singalong like no other. Enter Shikari, down the road, gave a sneak peak to their arena-filling show triggering tectonic moments at Concorde 2 for a show that will be written home about as a moment you needed to see,...

Last month, this site ran an article about the power of feel good pop music to lighten our mood. As soon as I read it I rushed home and put on some Bryan Adams. This wasn’t just a sudden whim. The summer of 1997: Fashion designer Gianni Versace wakes up in his Miami Beach mansion, wearing pajama bottoms decorated with his own logo. He strolls through his gilded palace, greeting the servants who are already standing at attention in their places. Though it has been covered well in documentaries and books, there hasn’t been a film that specifically targeted the musical movement of Northern Soul that swept the north of England in the 1970s. Elaine Constantine’s film aims to change that, and the trailer is now online.Northern Soul follows John Clarke (Elliot James Langridge) and his friends, who dream of cornering the market for this exploding musical style in their small town. Rejecting a future slogging on the production line, the friends dream of going to America in search of the ultra-rare records that will help them to become the premier DJs on the Northern Soul scene. But it won’t be as easy as that, with parents and teachers against them and the police none too happy about the wilder fringes of the movement. Northern Soul also features Steve Coogan, Lisa Stansfield, Ricky Tomlinson, John Thomas, Antonia Thomas,...

An American music pioneer died yesterday. Chances are you never heard of him. His name was Frankie Knuckles and he was the Godfather of House Music. Knuckles was at the forefront of what drove dance music from the mid 80's on. He spinned at the legendary Warehouse in Chicago in the late '70s and and the Power Plant in the '80s as dance music was picking up the pieces after the death of Disco. Over the years he produced such influential tracks as "Tears," "Your Love," "The Whistle Song" and "Rain Falls." His remixes ranged from the club classic "Closer than Close" by Rosie Gaines to the amazing "Where Love Lives" by Alison Limerick to Lisa Stansfield's "Change" (she included two of his remixes on her Greatest Hits) to Toni Braxton's "Unbreak My Heart" to giving Whitney Houston one last dance number with "Million Dollar Bill...

The Grammys are on Sunday, so let’s investigate its most bizarre category: Best New Artist. Both Christopher Cross and Esparanza Spalding have one. That’s real. And that’s why we’re counting down the ten best winners and the five worst losers. Because maybe we’ll learn something! That’s what I’ll go with.
10. Rickie Lee Jones
Rickie Lee may not have had as gigantic a Billboard career following her Best New Artist win as some of the other stars here, but her debut album is such an assured, unpretentiously poetic, rich listening experience. “Chuck E.’s in Love” and “Young Blood” are whimsical and catchy while “Night Train” and “The Last Chance Texaco” are crackling, despairing portraits. She was also so rad, and that made her bohemian folksiness so much fresher than you’d expect.

Ballpark Film Distributors has acquired all UK rights to Nick Mead’s The Last American Outlaw.
The film follows George Christie, the longest-serving Hells Angel president, as he rides across America seeing if it measures up to be the ‘land of the free’ that he imagines.
“We’d got as far as Arizona when George was arrested by the FBI and subsequently held under house arrest for 18 months,” said director Mead. “The cameras kept rolling, even when the Da’s office offered to drop all charges against him if he turned informer against the Hells Angels.”
The film is set to be releaed theatrically in the UK and Ireland in summer 2104, to coincide with Christie’s release from jail.
Ballpark’s Mark Thomas said: “The Last American Outlaw set out to discuss what freedom truly meant for people choosing to live their life on the margins of society. What we ended up with was a fight for the...

The Season Three set-up for live elimination rounds on The Voice means that viewers (or "America," as Carson Daly euphemistically says) vote on who makes the top eight, with judges each picking one contestant out of America's discard pile, Go Fish-style. You could say the stakes were very high last night, but they lowered considerably after the final performance of the night because, uh, how to put this delicately: Amanda Brown has this thing locked down. Trevin Hunte should just pack his knives and go home. That quiet thud you heard across the nation as she strutted across the stage in her leather pants and bitch heels was 12 million jaws hitting the floor as Brown hit the high-note screams of Aerosmith's "Dream On."...

Clothes creator Stella McCartney is facing the prospect of legal action after being accused of pinching ideas from another designer. Clay O'Shea, a fitness trainer whose clients include Spice Girl Mel B, alleges that the T-shirts emblazoned with Cockney rhyming slang slogans seen at McCartney's Paris catwalk show on Monday are suspiciously similar to a series designed by her for the Slang label. O'Shea creations including the words `Trouble and Strife' and `Bristols' - both of which featured in the collection by Stella, the daughter of former Beatle Paul McCartney. The Slang label have been on sale for a number of months, and have been worn by stars including singer Melanie Blatt and Lisa Stansfield. An annoyed O'Shea says, "The Slang label has been in stores for almost six months. Stella McCartney is clearly a talented designer, so frankly I was surprised to see the slogans on the runway for next season. I will be seeking legal advice." McCartney's spokesman denies any influence.
