Josh Hartnett's West End debut has garnered him the respect of Britain's theatre fans - he picked up the award for best newcomer for his role in Rain Man at the Theatregoers' Choice Awards on Sunday.
The Pearl Harbor star accepted his prize from Los Angeles for his portrayal of Charlie Babbitt, a role made famous by Tom Cruise in the 1988 film of the same name.
And Hartnett insisted he was honoured to receive an award that had been voted for by theatregoers.
He said via videolink, "Being on stage in the West End production of Rain Man was a thrilling new experience.
"Everyone worked incredibly hard, and made me feel welcome. I am thankful to the audiences for coming out and supporting us."
Former Dr Who actor David Tennant was also praised on the night - his return to the stage in Hamlet was named theatreland's event of the year by voters - despite the star missing most of his performances due to a recurring back problem.
Revered British talent Kenneth Branagh walked away with the best actor award for his turn in Ivanov, while the prize for best actress was given to Katy Stephens for The Histories.
Jersey Boys, which tells the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, took home all four of the prizes it was up for, including best new musical and best actor in a musical for Ryan Molloy, who plays the famous singer.
