Amazon is doubling down on The Wheel of Time.
The streamer has renewed the fantasy series for a second season ahead of the launch of the show. It comes as production has wrapped on season one in the Czech Republic.
It is the latest market in a long road for the adaptation of Robert Jordan’s books, which has been in development in one form or another for 20 years and that Amazon ordered to series in October 2018. Like many series, production of the drama was also hit by the pandemic.
The Wheel of Time, set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists, but only women can use it, is co-produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television and comes from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Chuck writer Rafe Judkins, who is showrunner and exec producer.
It stars Rosamund Pike as Moiraine, a member of the shadowy and influential all-female organization...

"We are coming back, aren't we?" This is an outstanding short that is undoubtedly worth a watch. Ruth is a one-take narrative short film by filmmakers Arturo M. Antolin & Paul Romero Mendez. This was made using the same kind of equipment and technique as with 1917, and was exec produced by Arri and Directors UK. Ruth, an elderly lady with dementia, becomes lost within her own home. As she seeks answers, she ends up losing herself further, confusing reality with memories of her past self. Starring the acclaimed actress Ania Marson as Ruth, with David Sterne, Leslie Ash, Catherine Banks, and Alex Boorman as her family members. Ruth is also a compelling companion to The Father with Anthony Hopkins, as they are both about the same subject of dementia. Life – and death, it turns out – sure ain’t easy for Deliverance Minister Merrily Watkins (Anna Maxwell-Martin), what with her having just found colleague and crazy old coot Canon Dobbs (David Sterne, making an early exit) chilling at home with a slit throat. But that’s just the latest strife she’s been saddled with since taking on her new Exorcist job – there’s that crucifixion killer still at large to deal with; the dead Satanist that keeps showing up to poke at the cut she’s got festering on her hand; and trouble from her teenage daughter (Sally Messham), who’s taken to hanging out with a middle-aged woman she met in a pub toilet. 20 year old newcomer Sally Messham, a final year student at Rada, has been cast as Jane Watkins, the daughter of exorcist Merrily, in ITV Encore’s new three-part drama Midwinter of the Spirit.
Sally (represented by Curtis Brown), will leave Rada early to take up the role alongside the double BAFTA award-winning actress Anna Maxwell-Martin who leads the cast as Merrily Watkins, a single mother who isn’t your average country vicar.
Merrily’s newly acquired training has put her on the dark side of the pulpit. She’s become one of the few women priests working as an exorcist - a job increasingly mistrusted by the modern Church and rarely talked about, even though it operates in virtually every diocese in the UK.
Merrily is deeply human in her doubts and scepticism, but her knowledge of the paranormal underworld brings her to the notice of local police who need...

It’s safe to say horror westerns don’t have the best track record. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a good amount of decent examples out there such as Grim Prarie Tales, Ravenous, Dead Birds and The Burrowers. But there’s also a Lot of bad horror westerns, two of which – Gallowalkers and Umbrage – debuted at Frightfest’s of the past. Given that, it was with a sense of trepidation that I approached Blood Moon…
Set in Colorado in 1887, Blood Moon sees a stagecoach full of strange passengers and an enigmatic gunslinger Calhoun (Dooley) find themselves prisoners of two desperate outlaws on the run. As the prairie travellers attempt to outwit the outlaws in any way they can it soon...

From director Robert Heath comes a new horror/thriller called Truth Or Dare. The film’s first still has been officially released, while not revealing much it certainly has my attention. The film stars David Oakes, David Sterne, Jason Maza, Jennie Jacques, Liam Boyle, Jack Gordon, Nicky Henson and Alexander Vlahos.
Official Synopsis: Five teenage friends are taken hostage by a vengeful psychopath and forced to play a party game with life-or-death consequences. An end-of-year party for an ‘alpha’ group of first year university students turns nasty when a game of ‘truth or dare’ ends in humiliation for ultra-rich social misfit Felix. For five students at the gathering, this unpleasant but seemingly minor incident will have unexpectedly devastating repercussions. Some months later, the friends meet again en route to a surprise party for Felix, who has been away traveling. Arriving at the venue – an old hunting lodge – they are met by Justin,...

After Dark Films have shared out a sneak peek into "Slaughter (2009)", one of the selections for After Dark Horrorfest III's "8 Films to Die for". Highlighting that the movie is inspired by true events happening in a remote farm near Atlanta, the newly-released trailer gives the idea that the movie will be violent, gruesome and unthinkable.
Opened with a far shot of a serene farm house, the trailer moves on showing that a young woman is answering an ads for roommate. It then continues showing that the woman is quick to befriend her new roommate when she settles down at the farm. But, soon she discovers that something has gone wrong at the remote place and that it offers terrifying forms of abuse.
Directed by Stewart Hopewell, "Slaughter" stars Antonia Bernath, Craig Robert Young, Lucy Holt, Maxim Knight and David Sterne. The horror movie will be premiered at After Dark Horrorfest...
