I’m gonna need a minute, and I doubt I’m the only one. Before we get to dissecting and debating Tuesday’s Knockouts on The Voice, I’ve got to shake my shock and disappointment over Jaclyn Lovey’s elimination Monday (and the so-not-her performance that led up to it). Off reader Logan’s comment, I even went back and rewatched her Ko to see if it had really been as bad as I thought. At best, it was a C- instead of a D. Those just weren’t sounds that I expected — or wanted — to hear come out of Jaclyn’s mouth.

Kelly Clarkson continues to impress in her first season as a coach on “The Voice.” She heads into the knockout round with one of the strongest of the four teams, rivaled only by three-time coach Alicia Keys. The two veterans of the reality competition series — Adam Levine and Blake Shelton — lag well behind.
Clarkson pitted her original dozen artists against each other in six battles. The winners of those — Alexa Cappelli, Brynn Cartelli, Jorge Eduardo, Jamella, Justin Kilgore and D.R. King — move on to the knockout round, which kicks off on April 2. Clarkson used one of her two steals in Battle 1, picking up Tish Haynes Keys when Levine opted to go with Rayshun Lamarr after their duet on “Sweetest Thing.” She used the other in Battle 3 when Shelton went with Pryor Baird over Kaleb Lee after their performance of “Don’t Do Me Like That.”

Kelly Clarkson said she is bummed out that former “The Voice” contestant Molly Stevens called her “small minded” for comparing her to other gay musicians. “Wow. This really bums me out. I need everyone 2 hear me & hear All Of The Words I Say,” Clarkson tweeted Tuesday after Stevens posted a (now-deleted) Instagram post that slammed Clarkson for comparing the contestant other lesbian musicians, including Melissa Etheridge and the Indigo Girls. But, as Clarkson pointed out in her own defense, she compared Stevens to straight musician Patty Griffin, too. “I compared Molly to Melissa Etheridge, Patty Griffin (a name that was...

“The Battle starts now!” Before we get to the reviews of Tuesday’s Battles on The Voice, can we just take a moment to appreciate the way Carson Daly always tells us when a sing-off is beginning? It’s one of the show’s endearing idiosyncrasies that I can’t help but laugh at and love at the same time. Wouldn’t we, um, notice that a Battle has started, even if Carson didn’t inform us? I’m going to give us enough credit to say yes. Yes, we would notice. Still, it cracks me up, and I’ve...

“The Voice” aired the third of the four episodes devoted to the battle round on Monday (March 26). At this stage of the competition, the four coaches — Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton — must pit pairs of their artists against each other in sing-offs. After they chose one from each pairing to move on to the knockout round, the other was up for grabs with each coach having two such steals.

Season 14 of “The Voice” aired the third of four episodes devoted to the battle round of the competition on March 26. With the first two episodes last week having been dominated by artists from teams coached by Kelly Clarkson and Alicia Keys, this installment was focused primarily on those mentored by Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.
At this stage, each coach pits pairs of artists against each other and has them sing the same song for survival. After deciding which contender in each battle to take to the knockout round, the other coaches can steal the loser for their teams (save for Levine who has used his two steals already). At rehearsals, the coaches had fellow artists on hand to offer advice: Clarkson turned to Hailee Steinfeld, Keys was counseled by Shawn Mendes, Levine had Julie Michaels by his side, and Shelton brought in Trace Adkins.

Monday night on “The Voice,” Justin Kilgore and Molly Stevens performed Cam‘s “Burning House” for Team Kelly Clarkson during the third battle round episode of Season 14. Both artists are unique in that they’re openly gay country singers. Kelly ultimately chose to save Justin for her team, thereby eliminating Molly from the reality TV singing competition. Do You think coach Kelly made the right decision? Watch “The Voice” performance video above.

“Your voices are completely different,” Kelly began when it was time to decide between Justin and Molly. “But you both are so emotional. It sounds vulnerable and it just sounds real raw. Molly, you have this crazy cool Indigo Girls/Melissa Etheridge/Patty Griffin greatness. Justin, you have this untapped well that I think is waiting to just burst out.

Going into the second and final week of The Voice’s Season 14 Battles, we still had ahead of us performances by a bunch of our favorites — and high hopes that they wouldn’t end up getting montaged, as was Johnny Bliss. (Fingers crossed!) Based on their memorable Blind Auditions, I was particularly eager to hear Jaclyn Lovey and Pryor Baird again, to find out (a) if they were good or consistently good and (b) how they’d fare in a cage match with another singer. Aand… ? Read on. We’ll discuss.

We’re exactly at the halfway mark for the “The Voice” battle rounds of Season 14. Monday’s show is another two-hour epic round with the cuts and commentaries of six-time coaching winner Blake Shelton, three-time champ Adam Levine , Season 12 winner Alicia Keys and rookie coach Kelly Clarkson.
As is the tradition for this Emmy-winning reality TV series, the coaches are using advisors for this round to assist them in mentoring the artists on their teams. The Season 14 advisors are: Julia Michaels (Team Adam), Trace Adkins (Team Blake), Shawn Mendes (Team Alicia) and Hailee Steinfeld (Team Kelly). There has been no official word yet on who will be the overall show advisor for the knockout rounds beginning next Monday, April 2.
