Exclusive Producers Webster Stone and Robert Stone have acquired rights to Anthony Bourdain’s crime novel Gone Bamboo for a scripted series based on a pilot. The 1997 book was the celebrity chef’s second published work of fiction.
Set on the island of St. Martin, Gone Bamboo follows sharpshooting hedonistic assassin Henry Denard, who botches a career-capping hit. Denard must enlist the help of his skilled, stunning, and volatile wife to save their skins, dispatch the villains, and keep the peace — at all costs — in their tropical paradise.
“I wanted to write a sociopath beach book,” writes Bourdain in the book’s introduction. “I wanted a hero and heroine as lazy, mercenary, lustful and free of redeeming qualities as I sometimes see myself.”

I imagine the comedy will film in a tax incentive friendly city with a convention center for rent.

Bledel, Kline And Wood…apart from sounding like a back alley law firm, this is largely good news! Robert Redford’s period drama, The Conspirator, has picked up a handful of fresh acting talent today as Evan Rachel Wood, Kevin Kline and Alexis Bledel have been cast alongside James McAvoy and Robin Wright Penn in the film, which takes place during the aftermath of President Kennedy’s assassination.
Also joining the already-strong cast in the film (which began shooting this past Monday) is Tom Wilkinson. According to Variety:
Wright Penn plays Mary Surratt, the only female charged in the conspiracy to kill the president, and McAvoy plays Frederick Aiken, the war hero assigned to defend her. Wilkinson will play Reverdy Johnson, the former attorney general who as a U.S. senator is the mentor to the young lawyer and sympathetic to Surratt. Wood plays Surratt’s daughter, Anna, and Kline...

Justin Long is joining James McAvoy and Robin Wright Penn in "The Conspirator," the historical drama that Robert Redford is directing.
"Conspirator" tells the story of Confederate sympathizer Mary Surratt (Wright Penn), who was tried as a conspirator in the Lincoln assassination, and Col. Frederick Aiken (McAvoy), who reluctantly agreed to defend her before a military tribunal.
Long plays a soldier who lost a limb in the Civil War and is McAvoy's best friend and conscience.
Redford is producing with Wildwood Enterprises' Greg Shapiro and Bill Holderman and American Film Co.'s Robert Stone, Webster Stone and Brian Falk.
The movie shoots in Georgia this month.
The period drama is a first for Long, who is known for his comedic sensibilities or horror appearances, and offers him a chance to show some versatility.
Repped by UTA and Principato-Young, Long recently wrapped romantic comedy "Going the Distance" opposite Drew Barrymore.

Universal Pictures has added the incredibly busy Josh Brolin to the cast of Cartel, in a role that was originally intended to go to Sean Penn before the latter decided to leave the film for a personal retreat from the movie business. Cartel, which begins filming this coming January in Mexico City, will be directed by Asger Leth, who previously directed Ghosts of Cite Soleil, a documentary which explored the gritty underbelly of Haitian gang life.
According to Variety, “Brolin will play a man on a mission to protect his son after his wife is brutally murdered in the gritty world of Mexican drug cartels.” Sounds like the premise of a lot of films in the works right now, but certainly a role that Brolin is mighty capable of handling.
