The Way Home Season 2 saved its biggest moments for last. The March 31 season finale of the Hallmark Channel drama featured some major moments for almost every character, including Kat, Thomas, Colton, and Jacob. Big revelations – and lingering questions – set the stage for season 3, which will air on Hallmark sometime in 2025.

The season finale picks up just after Kat realizes that Thomas Coyle (Kris Holden-Ried) was likely executed in 1814. She decides to travel back in time to say goodbye and perhaps prevent his death (even though she knows from experience that trying to change the past is futile).
Kat encounters Thomas on the beach. He tells her he’s sacrificed himself to save Jacob. He gives her some coins and then they share a passionate kiss that’s sure to satisfy Kat-Thomas shippers.

First loves aren’t always meant to be. That’s especially true for Alice and Nick in The Way Home. The two teens fell for each other during season one of the Hallmark Channel drama. But Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow) is a time traveler from the future. In Alice’s own time, Nick is old enough to be her dad, and any lasting romance between them is impossible.
As a teen in the 1990s, Nick is played by Samuel Braun. For scenes set in the present day, Canadian actor Kerry James steps into the role. And as fans saw in the show’s March 10 episode, “Somewhere Only We Know,” when adult Nick returns home to Port Haven, he notices something weird that starts him wondering about Alice.

The Way Home’s core mystery centers on Jacob Landry, who vanished mysteriously one night in 1999. The Hallmark Channel drama has gradually revealed more details about what happened to Jacob, where he ended up, and what he’s doing now. Over the course of the past season and a half, his older sister Kat (Chyler Leigh) has gotten closer to finding her missing brother. But as the show evolves, it’s introducing new characters and plot twists. One of those was foreshadowed in the show’s Feb. 18 episode, “Wake Me Up When September Ends.”

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Way Home Season 2 Episode 4, “Wake Me Up When September Ends.”] Uh-oh. That’s basically how Kat (Chyler Leigh) feels at the end of the latest episode of The Way Home now that she knows her daughter Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow) is going to keep traveling back to the past—Kat’s past—using the pond on their family’s land. Elliot (Evan Williams), who knows in the past and present about Alice’s time traveling—and in the present about Kat’s—confirms that Alice is going to see something. Kat is so sure that her daughter will hate her as a result, though Elliot insists they’ll be just fine. “Ooh, that’s a big bomb,” Leigh told TV Insider of that secret when she, Laflamme-Snow, and Williams stopped by our office. The Way Home is switching up its schedule on Super Bowl Sunday. Millions of people will be glued to their TVs to watch as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers (and perhaps get a glimpse of Taylor Swift cheering on her boyfriend Travis Kelce). So, perhaps it’s not a huge surprise that Hallmark has opted to give the show a week off.

Time travel is a tricky thing. In The Way Home’s first season, Kat, Alice, and Elliot thought they had figured out some of the pond’s rules, including that you couldn’t change the past and that it would always send you where you needed to go. But it turns out the pond still has plenty of secrets, as we’re beginning to discover in season 2 of the Hallmark Channel series. In episode 2, “Hanging By a Moment,” Kat and Alice go on separate journeys, while Del and Elliot face their own challenges in the present.

Will Kat and Alice find a way to prevent the family tragedy that changed the Landry family forever? In the upcoming episode of Hallmark Channel’s The Way Home, the women begin to dig into what happened to Kat’s brother Jacob more than two decades ago – and explore whether they may be able to use their newfound ability to time-travel to prevent his disappearance. That storyline will presumably play out over the second half of The Way Home’s debut season as the show heads to its finale at the end of March.

What would you do if you could change the past? For Kat and Alice on Hallmark Channel’s new series The Way Home, the answer to that question is obvious: They’d go back and prevent the disappearance of Kat’s younger brother Jacob, who mysteriously vanished more than 20 years ago. In the upcoming episode, “Building a Mystery,” both women decide to try and prevent the tragedy that changed the Landry family forever. But will their efforts to alter the past cause more problems than they solve?

So far, we’re only two episodes into Hallmark Channel’s new series The Way Home, but the show has already set up a number of intriguing mysteries for viewers to mull over. The biggest has to do with what happened to Jacob. We know that Kat’s younger brother isn’t around in the present day, and his absence is still an open wound for the Landry women. The circumstances surrounding Jacob’s disappearance are murky, but one theory could explain why he vanished in 1999 – and how he might find his way back into Del, Kat, and Alice’s lives.

Chicago – Despite a star-powered supporting cast, an intriguing concept, and a set-up that seems right at home on the network that launched “Twin Peaks,” “Desperate Housewives,” and “Lost,” the new mystery/drama “Happy Town” never comes together. With over a dozen speaking roles to track and several subplots but little to honestly care about, the first two episodes of “Happy Town” are surprisingly dull affairs and could make return trips difficult.
Television Rating: 2.5/5.0
The title refers to the ironic nickname for the deeply troubled town of Haplin, Minnesota. The fact that the series opens with a man getting a railroad spike through the head should clue viewers in to the fact that not everything is happy in Haplin even if it looks that way at first. Hiding beyond the white picket fences are deep, disturbing secrets, and possibly a little “Lost”-esque mystery to hold it all together.
