Wbur, Boston’s NPR, and nonprofit newsroom The Trace have teamed up on a new podcast, The Gun Machine: How America Was Forged by the Gun Industry. Listen to the trailer now.
With a mission to break America out of its stalemated conversation about gun violence and gun rights, The Gun Machine begins with a question: What if everything we know about guns is wrong?
“Gun companies and gun rights activists often point to the government as coming to take our guns away. But if you look closely at history, that’s not really the story,” says Ben Brock Johnson, executive producer, Wbur Podcasts. “One of the first and most consequential acts of the U.S. government was to actually give birth to the gun industry. This podcast takes an unflinching look at how that act has repeatedly impacted the fate of America. We believe this limited series can help evolve the national conversation about guns.

Angela Bassett is a force of nature in Hollywood. Her talent, strength, and longevity in an industry known for its fleeting moments of fame speak to her relevance and influence. Her rise as a distinguished African American actress in Hollywood has had an impact on the entertainment industry and the representation of Black talent. Bassett’s breakthrough role came in 1993 when she played Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do With It. Her performance earned her a Golden Globe nomination. This performance was instrumental in breaking away from the tropes that plagued Black actresses in Hollywood, demonstrating that they could carry films of prestige.
In 1998, Angela Bassett brought the lead character of Stella Payne to life in the film adaptation of Terry McMillan’s novel How Stella Got Her Groove Back. In the first feature film from Kevin Sullivan, Bassett’s portrayal of a successful 40-year-old stockbroker who takes a well-deserved vacation in Jamaica,...

Without watching Netflix’s May 12-launching Anne With An E, some might say it is near sacrilege to have a new version of the classic Anne Of Green Gables tale. They could say that on Canada’s 150th anniversary, no small-screen version of L.M. Montgomery's much-adapted 1908 novel could hope reach the heights of the Megan Follows-starring 1985 miniseries and one of the Great White North’s most famous works of literature. Well, as good as that Kevin Sullivan-directed effort…...

The WWE Hall of Fame news continues with a report that former All Japan Triple Crown and Awa Heavyweight Champion Stan Hansen and former WWE Women’s Champion Jacqueline will be inducted into this year’s class.
Though WWE has not acknowledged the inductions on television or online, the company released a special commemorative WrestleMania 32 magazine last week that named Hansen and Jacqueline as 2016 inductees.
WhatCulture.com actually broke the news of Jacqueline’s induction several weeks ago…
Though Stan Hansen primarily made his reputation in Japan, he also competed for WWE in the 1970s, quickly becoming one of the company’s top heels. When Bruno Sammartino suffered a broken neck in a match with Hansen, credit for the injury was given to “The Lariat’s” devastating finishing maneuver. On November 3rd, 2015, WWE will release a book entitled, ‘Undertaker: 25 Years Of Destruction’. The read will be penned by Kevin Sullivan, not the wrestler of the same name, but an author who has also previously written the well-received ‘WWE 50′ book, as well as one looking back at the tremendous history of the WWE Title.
It’s been revealed that a DVD is also in the works, but it’s unclear whether or not the set will directly link to Sullivan’s book. It’s possible it could be a different project altogether, but no news has broken about whether or not the DVD will include a documentary portion as of yet.
The Undertaker, played by Mark Calaway, is the longest-running character in WWE history, a credit to the man who plays him and one of the absolute best stars on the promotion’s payroll. Having made his debut way...

Canadian actor Jonathan Crombie, known to legions of fans as Gilbert Blythe in the CBC version of "Anne of Green Gables," died April 15 of a reported brain hemorrhage. He was 48.
Crombie was plucked from relative obscurity to play Blythe in the CBC miniseries, based on the novels by Lucy Maud Montgomery, which launched in 1985 and starred Megan Follows as the titular orphan. He reprised the part in 1987 for the "Anne of Avonlea" TV movie, in 1992 on the spinoff series "Avonlea," and in 2000 for another movie, "Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story."
In addition to that iconic role, Crombie was a well-known stage and improv performer, especially in his native Canada, and he also starred in a Broadway staging of the musical "The Drowsy Chaperone" in 2006. His most recent television credit was a guest-starring role this year on CBS drama "The Good Wife."

Canadian actor Jonathan Crombie has died, aged 48.
The star was best known for his role as Gilbert Blythe in the CBC TV Anne of Green Gables movies.
Crombie's sister Carrie confirmed to CBC News on Saturday (April 18) that her brother had suffered a brain haemorrhage and died in New York on Wednesday (April 15).
"We've been going through lots of stories the last couple days," Carrie said. "He was funny, he was sweet, he loved acting, he loved comedy and singing and dancing. As a little kid, he just loved Broadway shows and all of that kind of stuff and would sing and dance in the living room."
Crombie reprised his role as Blythe in two sequels to the original 1984 TV movie, most recently in 2000.

I’ve heard it said that somewhere between science and superstition, there is another world. A world of darkness.
It’s a world that haunted my dreams as a child, from the first time I saw Kevin Sullivan and his Army of Darkness spreading their eerily twisted messages across the Nwa.
“Our cause is not for evil,” said Sullivan during an interview for Championship Wrestling from Florida in 1982. “Because all we’re looking for is refuge from this cold, cruel world.”
Ring a bell?
Sullivan’s dark mystique, his messianic charisma, his penchant for dark riddles — they all seem to have been resurrected in the form of Bray Wyatt.
Take, for instance, these words recently delivered by the leader of the Wyatt Family to nemesis John Cena:
“This is a terrible world,” Wyatt drawled. “A cold, cold dark and lonely place. You stand for these illusions. But...

What is Happening?! After Edgar Wright proved that he could do no wrong with this summer's out of this world "The World's End," anticipation for his first foray into the Marvel Universe has increased like whoa. We want "Ant-Man" and we want it now, and not even a new, earlier July 2015 release date will satisfy us. Give us Hank Pym and/or Scott Lang Asap (and Janet Van Dyne, while you're at it)!
Now the director has tweeted a picture that hands-down wins the internet, and this is the day after a certain someone popped up on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Yeah, this is exciting. Check out the full tweet after the jump!

She was a renowned interpreter of the works of Eugene ONeill on the stage, and her career also encompassed film, early dramas on live television, and Joseph Papp's New York Shakespeare Festival. She was also renowned for her television work playing Marilla Cuthbert in the Kevin Sullivan TV movie adaptations of the Anne of Green Gables series and her reprisal of the role in the subsequent TV series Road to Avonlea.
