It’s prom night 2008 and Donna Keppel is planning to wear a champagne-colored dress. Corseted, with pink and gold beads. Unfortunately, it might also get splattered with blood and tears, because the teacher who’s obsessed with her has broken out of the mental hospital, tracked her down to the prom venue, and is ready to make sure she’ll be his forever. Even if that means having to slaughter her friends first. That’s the story of the 2008 version of Prom Night (watch it Here) – and if you haven’t seen this one, it might be the Best Horror Movie You Never Saw.
The Prom Night franchise began with the release of a 1980 slasher movie which starred scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis as a young woman who has to deal with a ski mask-wearing maniac crashing her prom. People are stabbed and hacked, knocked off a cliff, decapitated, throats are slit,...

2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the events of the original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the 20th anniversary of the release of the remake, and also the tenth anniversary of an entry in the franchise that has less fans than those two just mentioned: Texas Chainsaw 3D (watch it Here). Recently, our friends at Bloody Disgusting sat down for an interview with one of the film’s writers, Adam Marcus, and during their chat Marcus revealed that the movie lost its cannibalism due to the box office failure of The Midnight Meat Train and lost a couple massacres due to the lower-than-expected budget.
Directed by John Luessenhop and sporting a story credited to Stephen Susco, Adam Marcus, and Debra Sullivan, and a screenplay by Marcus, Sullivan, and Kirsten Elms, Texas Chainsaw 3D has the following synopsis: Decades ago, residents of Newt, Texas, long suspected that the Sawyer family was responsible for the disappearances of many people.

Horror fans will recognize Adam Marcus as the director of Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday and the co-writer of Texas Chainsaw, two divisive but oft-discussed entries in their respective franchises. He recently returned to the genre to helm Secret Santa, a holiday horror-comedy streaming exclusively on Screambox.
The second installment in our three-part interview with the raconteur focuses on Texas Chainsaw, the 2013 direct sequel to 1974’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, including glimpses at how the original screenplay differs from the final movie.
“When you see the line ‘Do your thing, cuz’ and people are angry at you for writing it, and you didn’t write it, you just start getting really frustrated about the state of modern filmmaking and the voice that filmmakers have,” Marcus confesses.
The Grudge scribe Stephen Susco wrote the first draft, but as Marcus tells it, “Lionsgate did not want his script because it was about cannibals.

If there was one thing the early noughties had in an abundance, especially within the horror genre, it was remakes. However, despite the decent quality of those examples, well most of them, one thing that stands out in the film we’re focusing on today, The Grudge (watch it Here), is the fact that the original’s director, Takashi Shimizu, chose to also take on the remake. About a year and a half ago, Texas Chainsaw 3D (watch it Here) star Alexandra Daddario gave an interview where she had some interesting things to say about her time working on the film (which just celebrated its 10th anniversary earlier this month). Daddario revealed that she had tried to get the “Do you thing, cuz!” line cut, and that she is very grateful to have been in the movie. Not just because she was having trouble getting work at the time, but also because there were severe issues to overcome during the production and it taught her “what happens when things go wrong, what happens when things go right, why did they go wrong, why shouldn’t they have happened, how does the studio get involved when something goes wrong, how studios interact with projects.” Now, during a new interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Daddario seems to have...

The most defining and far-reaching decision made by German Chancellor Angela Merkel during her 15 years in office is the focus of a new film making its debut at Berlin’s European Film Market.
“Merkel — Anatomy of a Crisis,” directed by Stephen Wagner, stars Imogen Kogge as the German leader during the dramatic days leading up to her decision in 2015 to allow nearly a million refugees, mostly from war-torn Syria, to enter Germany.
“We can consider this the most important political weeks of Angela Merkel’s life as chancellor,” says Alexander van Dülmen, who produced the film with Wagner via their Potsdam-based company Carte Blanche International.
Penned by Florian Oeller, “Merkel” is based on journalist Robin Alexander’s 2017 bestselling book “The Driven Ones” (“Die Getriebenen”) and examines the political wrangling among Merkel’s cabinet members and European actors like Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán as they struggle to deal with a...

Former 20th Century Fox exec Paul Higginson and Alexander van Dülmen and Stephan Wagner of Berlin-based Carte Blanche Intl. are producing the film. Budgeted at between $5 million and $10 million, “Alone” is set for a targeted 2021 Stateside shoot on the East Coast as a U.S.-European co-production.

In a twist straight out of a movie, “The Equalizer 2” shot past “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” to steal the box office crown.
Going into the weekend, it looked like “Mamma Mia! 2” would easily debut at No. 1. Final numbers won’t come in until Monday, but weekend estimates show Sony’s “The Equalizer” sequel opened above estimates with $35.8 million when it launched in 3,388 locations, while Universal’s highly anticipated follow-up to “Mamma Mia!” debuted with $34.4 million from 3,317 screens.
“Equalizer 2,” the first sequel of Denzel Washington’s nearly four-decade long career, debuted overseas with $3.3 million in 11 international territories. In North America, “Equalizer 2” premiered ahead of its predecessor. 2014’s “The Equalizer” opened with $35 million and went on to generate $192 million worldwide, including $101 million domestically.
“It was a surprise to come in at No 1. in an extremely competitive marketplace,” Adrian Smith, Sony’s head of domestic distribution, said. “It really speaks to the power of Denzel,...

Okay, so last Friday was the thirteenth, but that doesn’t stop the studios from releasing a new horror/thriller into the blockbuster-heavy Summer movie marketplace. Well the film itself is new, but it’s a follow-up to a modest hit from way back in 2015. So, is this set in a creepy old castle, or in a decaying and crumbling moldy mansion? No, those settings are passe and a tad tame for modern scary stories and their fans. The really terrifying backdrops aren’t “Camp Crystal Lake” or even the “House on Haunted Hill”. Here’s a hint: you’re there at this moment. Of course, the new hang-out for goons and monsters is the internet. It’s not a huge stretch to think of a web portal as a long hallway leading to a dungeon with tabs and ads popping up like zombies and ghouls. In this sequel (in...

Stephen Susco’s Unfriended: Dark Web – quite spectacularly – clears its cache of any historical connections to Leo Gabriadze’s original Unfriended. Gone is Laura Barns, swapped out for Dark Web “realities” and glitch mob superhackers who emerge from the world wide web’s seediest reaches. Once again Skype brings people together, and once again they’re hunted one by one while their webcams record it all. Familiar? Yes. Executed with equal menace? Not for a millisecond. Ghost Barns’ revenge is blindly ignored and doubled-back on, as this keyboard Game Night abomination can’t even hold a candle to the Blumhouse films of 2018 – the same year Truth Or Dare was released.

In true popcorn-season form, it’ll be a battle of the sequels at the domestic box office this weekend.
Universal’s “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” is taking a chance at the top spot against fellow newcomers “The Equalizer 2” and “Unfriended: Dark Web.”
The follow-up to 2008’s jukebox musical “Mamma Mia!” is tracking for a three-day tally between $30 million and $36 million when it opens in over 3,200 locations. A $30 million-plus debut would be a jump on its predecessor’s $27 million start. Much like the hit Broadway musical it was based on, “Mamma Mia” became a box office smash, earning $615 million worldwide on a $52 million budget. Though it pocketed an impressive $144 million in North America, “Mamma Mia” found even greater success overseas, where Swedish pop group Abba has a huge following. At the time, it was the highest-grossing film directed by a woman (Phyllida Lloyd), until it was surpassed by...

There’s a glimmer of a good idea in “Unfriended: Dark Web.” Unfortunately, it’s already been exploited, and to better effect, in 2015’s squirmily relatable “Unfriended.”
The latter cost a million bucks to make and took in $64 million, so you can see why horror shingle Blumhouse wanted to revisit the well. But this time, the bucket’s pretty dry.
The retread jettisons sociological insight for a grim and generally joyless journey that feels entirely obligatory. Where the first film tapped into the Internet’s unavoidable underbelly — cyberbullies, trolls, obsessive Fomo — the second never settles on a persuasive Pov.

Another trailer has been released for the the upcoming horror thriller Unfriended: Dark Web, which is kind of a standalone sequel to the 2014 film Unfriended. I initially rolled my eyes at this sequel but the story is does interest me as it unfolds in real time as we witness a group of friends fall deep down the dark deep rabbit hole of the dark web and are terrorized by someone on the other end. On top of that, I've been hearing great things about the movie, and there's quote in the trailer that says it's "The Most Evil Film That BlumHouse Has Ever Made," so maybe it will actually be good. I'll give it a shot.

"The most evil film Blumhouse has ever made." Now that's a killer quote. Universal has debuted a second & final trailer for horror sequel Unfriended: Dark Web, produced by Blumhouse, the follow-up to the screen horror movie Unfriended from 2014. The film unfolds in real-time on computer screens, following a guy and his friends who discover something on his new computer. He "discovers that the previous owner is not only watching him, but will also do anything to get it back." The cast includes Betty Gabriel, Andrew Lees, Colin Woodell, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Connor Del Rio, Chelsea Alden, Savira Windyani, and Stephanie Nogueras. This whole concept still seems way too gimmicky for horror, can't say I'm into this at all. But it might play well with horror fans waiting for something terrifying this summer. Watch out. The Sundance hit Searching won’t be the only thriller taking place entirely on a computer screen this summer. Following its initial premiere at the South by Southwest Film Festival earlier this year, Blumhouse Tilt and Universal has now released the first trailer for Unfriended: Dark Web. The film is a follow up to the 2014 shocker Unfriended, which found surprising praise for its clever delivery.
Dark Web tells the story of a group of friends participating in a laid-back game night on Skype; however, when Matias (Unsane’s Colin Woodell) reveals that he is using a stolen laptop that he found in a café, the laptop’s mysterious owner joins the group of friends. From here, the fatally twisted turn of events becomes inevitable. Alongside Colin Woodell, the cast includes Rebecca Rittenhouse (The Mindy Project), Chelsea Alden, and Betty Gabriel.
Stephen Susco, who scripted 2004’s The Grudge, makes his directorial debut with Dark Web.

Unfolding in real-time Unfriended: Dark Web is the most terrifying horror yet from the producer of Get Out, Happy Death Day and The Purge, and the makers of Unfriended. (review)
When a 20-something finds a cache of hidden files on his new laptop, he and his friends are unwittingly thrust into the depths of the dark web. They soon discover someone has been watching their every move and will go to unimaginable lengths to protect the dark web.
The original film did phenomenally well at the box office. Made for $1 million, it took in a worldwide gross of $64 million.
Opening in theaters July 20, the movie is written and directed by Stephen Susco.
The cast includes Betty Gabriel, Colin Woodell, Andrew Lees & Connor Del Rio.

"That looked way too real..." Universal has released a trailer for horror sequel Unfriended: Dark Web, produced by Blumhouse, the follow-up to the computer screen horror movie Unfriended from 2014. Being marketed as "the most terrifying horror yet", the film unfolds in real-time on computer screens, following a guy and his friends who discover something nefarious on his new computer. I much prefer the computer screen film Searching over this. They try so hard to make it horrific that it all comes across phony. If you're into this kind of horror, check it out. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Stephen Susco's Unfriended: Dark Web, from YouTube:...

Remember that 2014 horror film Unfriended? Well, apparently there's a standalone sequel that's been made called Unfriended: Dark Web and the first trailer has been released for you to check out. The story unfolds in real time and it takes a group of friends down the rabbit hole of the dark web as they are terrorized by someone on the other end.

After a festival run during the first half of this year, Unfriended: Dark Web is heading to theaters this July. Rather than following the supernatural setting of the first film, Dark Web takes a very grounded approach to the horror this time around:

“Unfriended” only cost $1 million to make and grossed $64 million, which is to say that a sequel was inevitable. Blumhouse has delivered three years later, with “Unfriended: Dark Web” premiering at South by Southwest a few months back. Watch the found-footage horror film’s first trailer below.
“Dark Web” concerns a teenager (Colin Woodell) who learns that his new laptop may have been stolen — and that its previous owner is watching his every move. In his SXSW review, IndieWire’s Eric Kohn wrote that the film — which, like its predecessor, takes place entirely on a desktop computer — “manages to turn the same gimmick into another jittery ride” and predicted that more “desktop thrillers” will be arriving soon.
Stephen Susco makes his directorial debut with the film after priving his horror bona fides by writing “The Grudge,” “The Grudge 2,” and “Texas Chainsaw 3D.” Betty Gabriel of “Get Out” and Rebecca Rittenhouse...
