Stranger Things producer and director Shawn Levy is looking to team up with Fox on a new sci-fi film project called Crater. According to Variety, the film is a "coming-of-age story in the vein of Stand By Me, set on a moon colony." Color me intrigued!
The spec script, which was voted #1 on the Tracking Board’s 2015 Hit List and was #5 on the 2015 Black List, was written by John J. Griffin. This is the description of the story that was released:
After the death of his father, a boy growing up on a lunar mining colony takes a trip to explore a mysterious crater, along with his four best friends, prior to being permanently relocated to another planet.
I love what I'm hearing and this seems like it would be an awesome project for Shawn Levy to take on! Sounds like the kind of film that he could also cast...

Finding a new take on the Zorro story has been confounding Hollywood for a while now. Most recently, it looked like 20th Century Fox might have cracked it, but despite seemingly casting Gael Garcia Bernal as the masked hero, nothing really went forward. Now, the rights have switched to Lantica Media and Sobini Films, who are on the hunt for a new director.According to The Hollywood Reporter, the plan is still to set the film in an apocalyptic future (probably an even more dangerous place since Mad Max: Fury Road blew the competition out of the water), where Zorro is, as usual, helping the innocent and tackling tyrants, but with a sci-fi flavour. While such filmmakers as Bryan Singer, Ricardo de Montreuil, Rpin Suwannath, Gary Whitta and Justin Marks have tried to bring it to life, the new Zorro has remained steadfastly in limbo. Apparently the new producers, including Sobini boss Mark Amin,...

Here's something weird. Back in 2011 we reported that Zorro would be getting a post-apocalyptic reboot called "Zorro Reborn". That project was to be helmed by Rpin Suwannath, a previz guy who worked on X-Men, The Matrix and Chronicles of Narnia movies.
At that time, the script for "Zorro Reborn" was penned by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, the guys behind the Dracula reboot "Harker".
Well here we are again! THR are reporting that Zorro Reborn has found new life with a partnership between Lantica Media and Sobini Films.

Since the Steven Spielberg adventure Hook was already a sequel to the classic tale of Peter Pan, you might expect that a return to Neverland over 20 years later with Robin Williams and maybe even Dustin Hoffman reprising their roles would be in the cards. Instead, Crave Online has word from actor Dante Basco, who played the lewd, crude, rude, bag of pre-chewed food dude, Rufio, is in the middle of developing a prequel that follows that very character. Basco, who is now 36-years old, will not be reprising his role, but as a producer he's already locked down Rpin Suwannath, who was once rebooting Zorro, lined up to direct. Basco told Crave briefly: "Actually there’s a film in development, the Rufio film, where a hotshot group of kids from the East Coast graduated and they wrote this whole script, the prequel to Hook and it’s the Rufio story.

About a year ago, we learned that 20th Century Fox was planning to reboot the "Zorro" franchise with a film called "Zorro Reborn." Now comes word that the studio has hired Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal (Babel) to star as the title character. The new movie will take Zorro out of his California or Mexico setting, and place him into a desolate and post-apocalyptic future. He will be less a caped crusader for justice than a one-man vigilante force bent on revenge, in a western story that's similar in tone to "No Country for Old Men." Glenn Gers (Fracture) wrote the script for "Zorro Reborn," which is now seeing a director. Rpin Suwannath, a pre-visualization specialist who worked on a number of the "X-Men," "Matrix" and "Chronicles of Narnia" movies, was set to helm, but has since dropped out.

Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal is to star in 20th Century Fox's reboot Zorro Reborn, set this time in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
As we previously reported, the project will see Zorro as a one-man vigilante force bent on revenge - rather than a masked crusader fighting for justice - in a tale that will have echoes of Sergio Leone and No Country for Old Men.
Bernal appears with Will Ferrell in the upcoming Spanish comedy Casa de mi Padre and with Kate Hudson in A Little Bit of Heaven.
Glenn Gers wrote the script with Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy. Variety's report says no director has yet been hired, despite earlier suggestions that concept artist Rpin Suwannath was to make his debut in the hotseat.
Sony, which released two Zorro films starring Antonio Banderas, is developing its own origin story about the swashbuckling hero based on Isabel Allende's 2005 novel Zorro.

20th Century Fox has found it's lead for the upcoming, futuristic revenge tale that will retool the longstanding Spanish hero recently played on screen by Antonio Banderas. Rpin Suwannath, known for performing the pre-visualization work on such film series as X-Men, The Matrix, and The Chronicles of Narnia, was previously direct the tentatively titled Zorro Reborn but has since left the project. The studio is still seeking a director. It's now been revealed that Gael Garcia Bernal is Fox's choice to play the masked vigilante in the film which will take the classic Spanish hero and re-imagine it as a post-apocalyptic story that won't be set in either. California or Mexico Green Lantern director Martin Campbell was the last to give a cinematic try at the franchise with 2005's The Legend of...

Gael Garcia Bernal ("Y Tu Mama Tambien," "The Motorcycle Diaries") is looking like the actor set to star in the sci-fi re-imagining "Zorro Reborn" for 20th Century Fox reports Variety.
This rather different take on the legend of Zorro shifts him out of the Spanish colonial era of California in which he was set and into a "Mad Max"-esque apocalyptic wasteland. The character will be fuelled more by vengeance than justice.
Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy ("Harker") are penning the script. Pre-viz whiz Rpin Suwannath was linked to direct but no longer. Mark Amin, Cami Winikoff and David Higgins will produce.
The project is not to be confused with the "Zorro" reboot over at Sony Pictures based on Chilean author Isabel Allende's 2005 novel.

Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal will lead “Zorro Reborn”, 20th Century Fox’s futuristic reboot of the famed masked sword-wielding Spanish avenger.
The B-movie style adaptation will surprisingly not be set in Mexico or California and will instead adopt a desolate & post-apocalyptic setting as a ‘one-man vigilante force bent on revenge seeking’. Revenge on who or what or even what the catalyst was for Armageddon is anyone’s guess but we are told the proposed movie would be part Sergio Leone Western/part No Country For Old Men.
The rather desperate sounding tentpole comes from Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, the writers behind the Dracula re-imagining movie Harker at WB which Unknown director Jaume Collet-Serra is to helm; a King Arthur reboot titled Pendragon; and a re-imagining of The Count of Monte Cristo that would be set in the London underworld titled Once Upon A Time In Hell and it...

Remember Fox’s futuristic reboot of Zorro? Well, in that case: Fox is doing a futuristic reboot of Zorro, entitled Zorro Reborn, which takes the classic character and places him in a post-apocalyptic setting, for reasons that aren’t entirely clear. Harker writers Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy fashioned the script with Glenn Gers (Fracture), one that casts Zorro as “less a caped crusader for justice than a one-man vigilante force bent on revenge.” We learned this ten months ago; we now have a major development.

Back in April of last year the Los Angeles Times report 20th Century Fox was looking to bring back Zorro after Antonio Banderas played the character in two films for Columbia Pictures. The only thing was, this wasn't the Zorro we're used to. The film is titled Zorro Reborn and apparently instead of a period piece the film will remain a western, but will be set in a desolate and post-apocalyptic future with echoes of both Sergio Leone and No Country for Old Men. At the time that news surfaced the film was expected to be directed by pre-vis specialist Rpin Suwannath (X-Men, The Matrix) with a script from Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy. Gael Garcia Bernal better start practicing making a "Z" with a sword.
The "Science of Sleep" star will play the legendary masked avenger in 20th Century Fox's futuristic take on the character, "Zorro Reborn," according to Variety.
"Zorro Reborn" was first announced in April of last year, with Fox moving the action to some place other than California or Mexico -- and to some other time as well, as this Zorro will be a masked vigilante hell-bent on revenge as he traverses a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Fox's "Reborn" is not related in any way to Sony's double-bill of "Zorro" films starring Antonio Banderas, "The Mask of Zorro" (1998) and "The Legend of Zorro" (2005). Sony is reportedly planning its own new "Zorro" project, which will be -- not surprisingly -- a prequel/origin story.

Last April, rumours began to spread that 20th Century Fox had its eye on an ambitious new take on the Zorro legend, with post-apocalyptic version Zorro Reborn bubbling away in development. Now it’s closer to reality, with Gael Garcia Bernal anointed to take over the trademark sword-swishing duties.Since it’s set in The World Of Tomorrow, it’ll be a change from the usual Californian / Mexican setting, though the ruined world concept does suggest that a lot of desert will still be involved. Still, Bernal’s Zorro will still be a masked vigilante out for revenge.Against whom? That is still shrouded – or perhaps that should be cloaked, given the character – in mystery. What we do know is that Glenn Gers has taken a pass at the script originally written by Harker scribes Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy. But though pre-vis specialist and spellcheck nemesis Rpin Suwannath was...

Looks like Zorro is heading back to the big screen, and this time around, it will not be Antonio Banderas behind the mask. According to Deadline, Sony is in the process of setting up another re-imagining of the Spanish outlaw based on the 2005 novel Zorro by Isabel Allende. The book is an origin story that is also written as a mock biography, apparently treating the character as a real historical figure, and even making reference to many existing stories including the last feature film The Mask of Zorro. Does this mean the movie will be shot as a mockumentary? Probably not, but it might be a cool idea. At any rate, Sony is insisting that since it is based on this book, it will Not be a remake. Of course it won't. Writers Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia have been hired to pen the script, taking them out of their...

As much as we love post-apocalyptic sci-fi movies, this one deserves to be filed in the "what the?" news category. According to the L.A. Hello all of you lovely lovers. Here's news that I hope you fucking choke on.
Uno: Zack Snyder's Superman: Man Of Steel, a film I went from cautiously optimistic about to dreading in the wake of Sucker Punch, is getting a second villain. In addition to Michael Shannon as Zod, German actress Antje Traue (Pandorum) has been cast as Faora, another evil Kryptonian who escapes from the Phantom Zone. She was the basis for Ursa in Superman 2. Fucking hell, Snyder. Just say you're remaking Superman 2 and be done with it, you goddamn jackass.
This is Ms. Traue:

Six years ago, Antonio Banderas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and director Martin Campbell entertained us with the swashbuckler "The Legend of Zorro." But there's a new reboot in the works that will bring our masked avenger back to the future, well, more like a desolate and post-apocalyptic setting according to the La Times.
The reboot is called "Zorro Reborn" and is being developed at Fox right now. In this new version, Zorro aka Don Diego de la Vega, is a one-man vigilante hell bent on revenge. So it's still using the Western tropes.
The project is in early stages but Rpin Suwannath is set to direct. Suwannath was in charge of visualizing art images for movies such as "X-Men," "Matrix," and "Chronicles of Narnia." Great! He's a visual artist, but can he tell a story?...

If you are going to reboot a franchise, why not reboot it to something entirely different? The Los Angeles Times reported a reboot film “Zorro Reborn” will remove the famous masked swashbuckler from the original historical California and Mexico settings. In fact, an unnamed source told the La Times that the new installment will be in the future as “specifically a desolate and post-apocalyptic one.” La Times described this version will be “less a caped crusader for justice than a one-man vigilante force bent on revenge, in a western story that has echoes of both Sergio Leone and ‘No Country for Old Men.’” The reboot project is currently being developed by Twentieth Century Fox. What do you call it when you take a character and remove him from the environment that made him who he is? The new Zorro Reborn project. Set to be directed by pre-viz artist Rpin Suwannath, this new story would take Zorro away from the desert of the southwest during a time where phones and clean water don’t exist and place him in a post-apocalyptic future desert during a time where phones and clean water don’t exist. I’m no purist, but taking a character from the environment that made him is always a dangerous prospect. These days everything seems to be a reboot, a sequel, or a movie created from a well known brand like Battleship. Fox is cashing in again on a known franchise by producing a reboot of Zorro called Zorro Reborn. The last Zorro was back in 2005 with Antonio Banderas however, this won't be anything close to what you saw six years ago.
Zorro Reborn will take place in the post-apocalytic future with a dark and gritty tone. This project is on the fast track with Rpin Suwannath aready set to direct. Suwannath did all the special effects on the X-Men movies and Narnia so we can almost be sure that there will be plenty of special effects.

Masked outlaw Zorro is set to ride again - this time in the future.
The swashbuckling character was most recently seen on screen in two Sony films starring Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
In 1998's The Mask of Zorro, the now-retired original hero (Anthony Hopkins) passed the mantle to a successor (Banderas). This was followed in 2005 by The Legend of Zorro. There have been rumblings for some time that a reboot was on its way and, according to a new report, it seems to be gaining momentum.

Both were directed by Martin Campbell, who also helmed Casino Royale and the upcoming Warner Bros superhero adaptation Green Lantern.

Zorro has been making appearances in film for almost 100 years, but the most recent incarnation of the character played against tradition, with Anthony Hopkins playing an aged Don Diego de la Vega handing off the mask to a misfit outlaw played by Antonio Banderas. That was of course The Mask of Zorro, directed by Martin Campbell, who later followed up that film with the more family friendly The Legend of Zorro. The first film was moderately successful -- enough, anyway, to get a sequel greenlit -- but its follow-up barely even registered, either at the box office or with critics. At the time, it seemed like the character would be retired from movies, at least until a studio ran out of ideas and figured out a way to bring him back. Only six years later, that time has come. 24 Frames [1] is reporting that Zorro is about to undergo another reinvention.

With Disney in the process of putting together their reboot of The Lone Ranger and Summit having picked up Paul W.S. Anderson's The Three Musketeers, Fox is apparently starting to feel the need to revive another swashbuckling franchise of their own. Zorro's last appearance on the big screen was actually a lot more recent than either of those characters, with Antonio Banderas starring in The Mask of Zorro back in 2005. Now they're aiming to bring the pulp hero back in a new way with a project called Zorro Reborn. The weird thing is that they intend to replace the western setting and adventurous tone with a dark and gritty post-apocalyptic future instead. Yep, this sounds like a Great idea. According to the L.A. Times [1], Zorro Reborn already has a director in the form of Rpin Suwannath, a special effects guy who served as pre-visualization supervisor on the X-Men movies,...

A futuristic Mask of Zorro? Douglas Fairbanks will be turning in his grave but then why the hell not? It’s 2011 and haven’t we become desensitized to this kind of franchise reboot trick by now and I guess I would rather see this than another origin story of the original caped crusader. I think so, anyway.
L.A. Times report that 20th Century Fox, forever the most dubious of franchise film studio’s, are in the early stages of developing Zorro Reborn, a new script which would transform our masked Mexican avenger, Bruce Wayne’s inspiration into becoming Batman no less, into a desolate & post-apocalyptic setting as a ‘one-man vigilante force bent on revenge seeking’. Revenge on who or what or even what the catalyst was for Armageddon is anyone’s guess but we are told the proposed movie would be part Sergio Leone Western/part No Country For Old Men.

20th Century Fox is developing a rather different take on the legend of Zorro by shifting him out of the Spanish colonial era of California in which he was set and into a "Mad Max"-esque apocalyptic wasteland.
Entitled "Zorro Reborn", this re-imagining of the character will forgo many of The Fox's traditional characteristics in favour of a story fuelled by vengeance rather than justice.
Further story specifics or the actual location of where in the world it will be set have not been revealed, but is said to have shades of both "No Country for Old Men" and Sergio Leone's classic westerns.
Pre-viz whiz Rpin Suwannath will make his directorial debut on the project, while Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy are penning the script. The writing duo have also penned a new take on Dracula entitled "Harker" which is set up at Warner Bros. Pictures.

The two “Zorro” movies with Antonio Banderas as the masked crimefighter and Catherine Zeta-Jones as his gorgeous wife/partner-in-crimefighting were good, old-fashioned action-adventure fun, the kind of classic Hollywood movies that were all the rave back in the good old days. They both also made a lot of money, and it’s surprising that a third installment hasn’t been made yet. That might change very soon. The LATimes has heard that Fox plans to revive the character, though you might not actually recognize him when he finally returns to the big screen. Word is, the new Zorro will abandon his Old Mexico/California roots and be transplanted to … the post-apocalyptic future. No, really. According to the Times, Zorro will be “less a caped crusader for justice than a one-man vigilante force bent on revenge, in a western story that has echoes of both Sergio Leone and ‘No Country for Old Men.

Zorro is getting the reboot treatment thanks to 20th Century Fox. This time the masked swashbuckler may be headed to the future and possibly without a sword? Six years ago, Antonio Banderas starred in The Legend of Zorro directed by Martin Campbell. Fox's reboot is titled Zorro Reborn and will be directed by Rpin Suwannath from a script by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy.
Typically Zorro (real name: Don Diego de la Vega) rides his black steed throughout California and Mexico fighting evil with his whip and sword. In the reboot he lives in a desolate and post-apocalyptic future, according to the La Times. No confirmation is available at this time from Fox. According to the Times, the new "Zorro will be less a caped crusader for justice than a one-man vigilante force bent on revenge, in a western story that has echoes of both Sergio Leone and No Country for Old Men.

In an idea that sounds suspiciously familiar to something we came up while high in college, someone at Fox recently said to another guy, "What if Zorro was, like, in the Future?" And with that, the new film, Zorro Reborn, was, well, born.
As reported yesterday by the La Times and a number of other establishments, Fox has decided to give the classic, swashbuckling swordsman a post-apocalyptic makeover, taking the world's most famous Latino hero (sorry, El Santo) out of his historical California and Mexico setting and plops him down into an as-of-now unidentified desolate futuristic location, presumably with what basically amounts to a lightsaber.
This image has seven things we love in it. Can you spot them all?
Of course, Zorro-obsessives and other weirdos know that there's already been a futuristic take on the masked hero: The animated Zorro: Generation Z. This new version, however, is set to be live action,...

20th Century Fox (via MovieWeb) is reportedly developing a reboot of the classic Zorro character entitled Zorro Reborn, but will set the classic Spanish swordsman in an apocalyptic wasteland instead of featuring him in the traditional vein many may be used too.
In this version, Zorro will also be driven by vengeance instead of justice, though specific story details weren’t given the setting is not location-specific. Rpin Suwannath will make his directorial debut with Zorro Reborn, after a career working in pre-visualization on such movies as X-Men, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy are writing the screenplay.
This sounds like a big crapfest in my opinion but that is just me. I guess I will have to see more, but right now, a masked swordsman fighting for revenge in a post apocalyptic world just doesn’t appeal to me.

The swashbuckling pulp hero may drop his time period, setting and mission against social injustice for a futuristic revenge tale in the film that is said to be in early development at 20th Century Fox. Reports state that the outlaw hero will be given a dark reinterpretation similar to that of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight with a script written by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, who have recently revamped the Dracula franchice for Warner Brothers with their Harker script. Sergio Leone and No Country for Old Men were given as comparisons on tone. Rpin Suwannath will direct the tentatively titled Zorro Reborn. Though you may not be as familiar with the name Don Diego de la Vega, you certainly know his iconic alter ego Zorro, the legendary masked hero who etches his signature "Z" wherever he's prevailed. While a recent Antonio Banderas led franchise somewhat reinvigorated the hero's relevance in pop culture, a completely new take on the character will completely revamp him. 24 Frames reports Fox is developing a project called Zorro Reborn, a story that will take Zorro out of the historical California/Mexico setting and place him in a desolate post-apocalyptic world as a one-man vigilante force bent on revenge in the spirit of Sergio Leone. With that influence, the story certainly still has a Western feel, and is apparently similar to No Country for Old Men as well. Rpin Suwannath, a special effects previsualization specialist who has worked on X-Men, The Matrix and more, is set to direct the film,...

Sure, we’ve seen a bunch of reboots and remakes and re-imaginings over the last few years. Some have been rather successful while others have crashed a burned before our very eyes. Now we are hearing reports that 20th Century Fox has plans to revisit the classic Zorro character in a way we never thought possible.
According to the La Times, Zorro Reborn will take place in a post-apocalyptic, futuristic landscape that is said to echo “Sergio Leone and No Country for Old Men.” The article also says Zorro will be more of a “one-man vigilante force bent on revenge” than a guy with a cape seeking justice.
Zorro Reborn will be directed by Rpin Suwannath, who has done visualization work on films such as X-Men, The Matrix and The Chronicles of Narnia. Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, the two guys who wrote the Dracula reboot Harker, have peened the script for this reboot.

We have seen the future, and it has a big letter 'Z' slashed into the wall.
Disney is bringing back "The Lone Ranger" with the help of Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski, and now 20th Century Fox is looking to revitalize another classic hero with "Zorro Reborn," according to the Los Angeles Times.
The most recent cinematic adventures of Zorro starred Antonio Banderas, who portrated the swashbuckling crusader in Sony Pictures' "The Mask of Zorro" (1998) and "The Legend of Zorro" (2005). But this new Zorro will be a whole new kind of hero as "Reborn" sets its sights on the future.
