The Podcast Academy, a group of 1,000-plus industry creators and executives, awarded Campside Media and Sony Music Entertainment’s Chameleon: Wild Boys with the top honor at this year’s 2023 Ambie Awards.
Wild Boys, which serves as the third season of Campside’s Chameleon series, uncovers the story of two young men who claimed to have been raised in the wilderness in British Columbia and proceeded to fool a small town. The eight-part series was led by Sam Mullins with producer Abukar Adan, senior producer Ashleyanne Krigbaum, editor Karen Duffin and ep Matthew Shaer.
“I had nothing happening in my career. I had two young kids, I was working in a taco restaurant, and I never made a podcast before. And Campside deserves so much credit because I cold-emailed these guys, and they just believed in the story, and they believed in me, and they changed my life, and I’ll never forget it,...

Fuerza Régida’s corridos have become so popular that the California band never knows who might call them up next looking to collaborate. A few weeks ago, it was Marshmello. Today, it’s Myke Towers.
Fuerza Régida’s lead singer Jesús Ortiz Paz had mentioned the Puerto Rican rapper just moments earlier when suddenly, he glances down and holds up his phone. “Speaking of the homie, look!” he exclaims. Within seconds, Towers is on the line. “No te vas a morir pronto, compa,” Ortiz tells him. “I was just talking about you.

The singer-songwriter Kevin Kaarl spent his life in Meoqui, Chihuahua, a state in Northern Mexico filled with farms and norteños. The town is small (barely 70,000 people, Kaarl tells Rolling Stone), but the region’s quiet calm — and it’s music — rubbed off on him. His home even inspired his latest release: “Prenda del Alma,” a cover from corrido legend Chalino Sánchez.
The Spotify Single was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York City this summer. While the original “Prenda del Alma”’ was composed by Pedro J. González in the 1930s,...

As soon as Alex Guerra and Ramon Ruiz discovered 15-year-old Yahritza Martinez on TikTok, they knew she was going to be huge. The high schooler from Yakima, Washington, had been courting a massive following on social media with her shockingly powerful voice, and Ruiz and Guerra — both artists from the seminal Mexican band Legado 7 and founders of the label Lumbre Music — quickly signed her and her two brothers, Armando and Jairo Martinez, forming the band Yahritza y Su Esencia. Still, no one could have predicted the seismic wave caused by the band’s first single,...

Entertainment Weekly at one point named The Warriors (1979) as the 16th greatest cult film ever, and the 14th most controversial film of all time. I can't for the life of me figure out why. I think you had to be there. Over on RottenTomatoes, it currently carried as Tomatometer reading of 93 percent. It doesn't make sense to me. One critic described it as "visually stunning and emotionally gripping." I'm at a loss to even understand that sentiment.
During pub trivia last week, a few slightly to somewhat older friends of mine were talking up and quoting The Warriors, a movie I suppose I should be ashamed of saying I'd not heard of up until that point. As is often the case when you hear about something for the first time, it began cropping up online and in conversations all week. So I decided to check it out.
I don't get it.

Normal 0 false false false En-us X-none X-none MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 The Warriors – no other movie of the Seventies captured New York City quite like this gritty, visceral, gang drama did when it premiered in February of 1979, making The Big Apple look not only rotten to the core, but also possibly – gloriously -- like the most dangerous city in the world. For those of you who remember the movie when it first premiered in '79, it made a lasting impact that was both exhilirating and terrifying, summed up in one of the most widely quoted lines in movie history: Warriors.....come out and plaaaayeeeaaaayyy!
