Long Awol from Home Video — the last time I peeked it was an unwatchable pan-and-scanned laserdisc — this early Charles Band opus came at a time when the purveyor of third-class horror thrills could command a budget. A rather phenomenal list of ’70s special effects hopefuls collaborated to give the show lasting appeal, mainly by including some stop motion monsters from a parallel dimension. An average American family spends a chaotic night battling bizarre phemoneema… phelomea… stuff that’s leaked into our reality through that nuisance Sci-fi catch-all, a Time-Space Warp. A pair of big name stars twenty years past their sell-by date endure all manner of rubber critters, zipping flying saucers and green-glowing supernatural artifacts!

With CGI (computer generated imagery) becoming the new norm in filmmaking, (most recently the emergence of almost every film being made with 3D technology) fans have let their displeasure for this new gimmick be heard as most of them feel that the new 3D fad is just that..a fad and while CGI does improve upon a film, practical effects can be used just as well....
The argument for special effects is that when used right in film it provides a sense of realism and tangibility for the audience which heightens the film experience for the viewer. Using special effects over CGI also gives a film the "how'd they do that" factor which is when filmakers find other ways to create set pieces, costumes, etc. to enhance the wow aspect of the movie. Good examples showing the wow factor of special effects being used in film range in a wide...

Rebooting the Splatterhouse franchise should be an experience that pretty much writes itself: drop protagonist Rick Taylor (wearing the Terror Mask, obviously) into a series of gooey environments to fight against a cadre of creepy critters. Occasionally throw in something a little more iconic, like the chainsaw-fisted Biggie Man, and you've got a healthy shot of nostalgia certain to bring droves of old school quarter-pumpers to your doorstep with their grownup paychecks. Someone at Namco Bandai started with this simple formula, and then turned the proverbial dial to 11. The result? The most heartfelt love letter to 1980's horror that gaming has ever seen. We're not just talking about the...

It shouldn’t be a surprise if Eddie Goines looks a tad familiar. If you’ve been following the web series Celeste Bright, which we featured Here on this site, then you may recognize him as the male lead, Agent Rick Taylor. If you didn’t catch that, you may have seen him on the box cover of Just For Men hair care products; or perhaps you spotted him in Ridley Scott’s 2007 movie, American Gangster; or playing the leading man opposite Ms Beyoncé in her If I Were a Boy video… Then of course there’s his football career, culminating with the Seattle Seahawks, the New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts, but ended due to a knee injury.
Well whether any of that rings any bells or not, something tells me he’ll be on many a radar at some time soon, becaus the man just won’t stop at anything less!

Producer Dan Tovar gives an inside look at some of the monsters that Rick has to take on in Splatterhouse which just went on sale November 23rd. It is a remake of the original Splatterhouse which was released in 1988. A new behind the scenes video showing lots of new gameplay debuted on Ugo. Lots of gore and violence to be had in this game and don't forget the Zombie Clowns! Throughout the game Rick can lose his limbs but has the ability to slowly grow them back and use the lost ones as weapons in the mean time. In Splatterhouse, you play as an average guy named Rick Taylor. While going to college at Miskatonic University, his girlfriend Jennifer is kidnapped by monsters that leave Rick brutally ravaged and dying. While struggling to stay alive, he picks up a mask that gives him...

In a world in which scantily clad chicks cos-play to the delight of teens across the country and people are caught jacking off to dancing night elves in World of Warcraft, is it any wonder that a virtual babe is making it to the pages of an adult magazine?
That's right, kids, tomorrow Namco's Splatterhouse will be hitting video game retailers everywhere, and the game's star babe, Jennifer Willis, will appear in the December issue of Playboy Magazine as Miss Splatterhouse. We're thinking that there will certainly be a lot of splatter on these images, and it's probably not going to be blood. Check out a sample below.
Splatterhouse follows college student Rick Taylor as he embarks on a mission to rescue his girlfriend, Jennifer, who has disappeared after entering a mysterious run-down mansion inhabited by an elusive scientist, Dr. West.

We've got some new screens from the upcoming gore fest title from Namco Games - Splatterhouse. It's actually somewhat difficult to tell the difference between these screens and prior screens. Why? They're all pretty much college student Rick Taylor (for some reason I wanted to say Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead - hint, make a game for it) bathing in the blood of otherworldly abominations. Regardless, the stills are beautiful to look at if cartoon blood and violence is your thing. [gallery order="Desc"] Splatterhouse will be available 2010 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 system on November 23, 2010. Splatterhouse is rated “M” for Mature by the Esrb and will have an Msrp of $59.99.

Due to arrive on a computer/smart-phone screen near you this June, Celeste Bright, a new web series written and produced by regular S&A reader Sonya Steele, this trailer looks more like it’s for a gritty TV series or feature film. I’ve not been a big web series watcher so far but, from what little I’ve tried, I’d have to say that a healthy dose of suspense along with a certain quality that doesn’t look like corners have been cut in the technical, aesthetic and thespian departments help considerably. So this one already sits well with me.
The dramatic web TV series follows investment banker Celeste (Ryan Michelle Bathe – “Trauma”), a woman who plays by her own rules until an unsavory client (Brad Raider) makes her a target of FBI Special Agent Rick Taylor (Eddie Goines).
Visit the Celeste Bright website for more information.

It’s titled Celeste Bright, and is described as a drama series that “follows investment banker Celeste (Ryan Michelle Bathe from Trauma), a woman who plays by her own rules, until an unsavory client (Brad Raider) makes her a target of FBI Special Agent Rick Taylor (Eddie Goines).”
I’m definitely intrigued by what I see in the below trailer, and I’ll be giving this a look when it debuts online in June, so stay tuned. In the meantime, check out the below trailer for Celeste Bright:
