SXSW 2024 is hurtling toward its conclusion, and the music portion of the festival entered the weekend with a bang on Friday. The loudest, busiest night so far this year featured tons of great sounds if you knew where to look, or even if you didn’t — in a year that’s been as much about unofficial shows as the ones on the schedule, serendipity was the rule. Here are the best things we saw on March 15.

The lucky seven remaining couples on “Dancing with the Stars” will hit the floor twice on Monday’s Icons Night — except for one.
After the individual routines, which will pay tribute to the stars’ favorite music icons, the pairs will face off one-on-one in three dance-offs. And if you haven’t heard, seven is, in fact, an odd number, so that means one couple won’t have to lace up their shoes: Nev Schulman and Jenna Johnson will receive immunity from the dance-off because they topped the leaderboard last week and have the highest cumulative score of the season.
The judges will select a winning couple from each dance-off to earn two additional bonus points. Schulman and Johnson will automatically get two additional points as part of their immunity.
Here are the individual Week 9 routines:
Kaitlyn Bristowe and Artem Chigvintsev: Argentine tango (“Toxic” by Britney Spears)

Here’s a fun idea for a record: Take a veteran singer who also happens to be a lovable goofball with a dirty streak and leave him alone in a room with modern technology.
That’s the concept behind Love, Loss, and Auto-Tune, the new album from Swamp Dogg, real name Jerry Williams Jr. Williams is the kind of figure who, unfortunately, seems unlikely to emerge from the modern music industry, a genre-free vagabond who never had much commercial success as a solo act despite his knack for memorable songs and bizarre album artwork.

Did Tristan Thompson's alleged mistress Lani Blair have him in her sights long before the reports of his infidelity made headlines? Was she sending out cryptic messages to him months before she was reportedly spotted with him in New York City? Perhaps… if he's the subject of some of her cryptic Instagram posts. As Lani donned a gray bodycon dress and posted a mirror selfie, she added this caption: "Every time I see you walking by I get a thrill… You don't notice me but in time you will.

Angie Stone says Bruno Mars has a lot of growing up to do, but ain't hard to read between the lines ... she wants him to pay up. We got the R&B singer Thursday in the Atl and asked her about her rap group, The Sequence, suing Bruno and producer Mark Ronson back in December ... alleging their hit single, "Uptown Funk," is a ripoff of The Sequence's 1979 single, "Funk You Up." Mark Ronson completely ripped off Roger Troutman and Zapp's funk masterpiece when he cranked out his megahit "Uptown Funk" with Bruno Mars ... this according to a new lawsuit. Lastrada Entertainment, which owns rights to Roger and Zapp's 1980 classic "More Bounce to the Ounce" ... says 'Uptown' is a clear copy ... particularly the first 48 seconds of it. That portion includes the repeated talk-boxing of the word "doh" ... similar to the lyrics of 'More Bounce' in the 1980 hit.

After late rapper Tupac Shakur's virtual appearance on the first Sunday (April 15) of Coachella, an increase in sales of his "Greatest Hits" put the album back on the Billboard 200 chart for the first time since 2000, reports Billboard.com.
It re-entered at No. 129 with 4,000 copies sold according to Nielsen SoundScan. Hologram Tupac also caused an uptick in downloads of his songs like "Hail Mary," which had 13,000 downloads last week for a 1,530 percent sales increase, and "California Love" (featuring Dr. Dre and Roger Troutman), which saw 11,000 downloads. The rapper's third best-selling track of the week was "2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted" (with Snoop Dogg) with 9,000 downloads for an increase of 881 percent.
Hologram Tupac performed both "Hail Mary" and his collaboration with Snoop at the annual Coachella Festival. Dr. Dre, Eminem, Warren G, 50 Cent and Wiz Khalifa also joined virtual Tupac on stage.

As much respect is paid to the pioneers of r&b, the performers in the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s who created the rich musical tapestry that is still providing inspiration today, decidedly less attention is paid to 1980s soul, where all of those instincts merged with contemporary technology. But for all of the folks who loved Zapp as much as Marvin Gaye, there’s a mysterious shortage of artists around today to carry both torches – except of course for Chromeo.

"DJ Hero 2" has entered the last leg of its path toward an October 19 release date, and though they've revealed 105 tracks that will appear featuring talent like DJ Qbert and DJ Shadow, FreeStyleGames had not yet named what the sequel's mix list would include. That's all changed now, however, and they've even grouped the combos and re-styled singles by producer.
"Whether it's Pussycat Dolls Mixed With Pitbull, 2Pac Mixed With B.o.B., or a all-new remix of a Daft Punk anthem, in 'DJ Hero 2' we have created 83 mixes that are not only incredibly fun to play, but will allow everyone to experience the music they know and love in an all-new way," FreeStyleGames music director Dan Neil said in a press release. "The amazing soundtrack, coupled with the new social gameplay modes and all-new levels of creative freedom, make 'DJ Hero 2' the ultimate interactive music experience."

HollywoodNews.com: Lady Gaga already has some of the biggest hits of the past year and so it would only make sense for three of them to be included in the new DJ Hero 2 video game that is slated to hit stores on October 19.
A follow up to DJ Hero, the new game will feature over 100 of the biggest tracks from the hottest artists, remixed exclusively for the game. From Eminem’s “Not Afraid,” Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” David Guetta’s “Memories” feat. Kid Cudi, and Lil’ Wayne’s “Lollipop” feat. Static Major music fans will find more than a handful of songs to entertain themselves.
“The individual songs that have been mixed into the DJ Hero 2 soundtrack have been viewed online more than 1.5 billion times, which really speaks volumes to both the size and scope of our music,” said Dan Neil, Music Director, FreeStyleGames. “Working with some of...

Just in time for the warm weather, we compile the best sun-drenched tunes since 1991, in Bigger Than the Sound.

Think back to every awesome/romantic/borderline-insane thing you've ever done during the summer. Chances are, there was music playing when you did it. And it was probably playing very, very loudly.
That's because, perhaps more than any other time of the year, summer is practically made for music. It's when we pump up, strip down, make terrible decisions and basically have the times of our lives. And, somewhat fittingly, music is always there with us. It's the soundtrack to our every hookup, breakdown and tanning mishap. It's what's in the air at the beach, the time-share or the club (well, either that or Axe body spray). It's part of our memories, along with that terrible tattoo you got down in Panama City.

Jay-z's 'D.O.A.' stirs up yet more controversy over vocal-enhancing technique.

Amid the star-studded tributes to Michael Jackson on the Bet Awards, Jay-z's big premieres for his new single, "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)" — a live performance during the show and a premiere of the video after the show — were somewhat obscured. But still, the song — in which Jigga rails against artists who use the ubiquitous pitch-correction software in their songs — has had a lot of people asking, Just what is Auto-Tune?
The technique used these days is actually a software program created in 1997 as a means of audio processing. When a singer's voice is filtered through Auto-Tune, the pitch is tweaked depending on what tone is pre-programmed into the software. The result the robotic-sounding effect familiar from Cher's 1990s hit "Believe" and later pushed into more common usage by T-Pain.
