Former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash is celebrating after his solo debut was named Album of the Year at the Classic Rock Roll of Honor awards on Wednesday, November 10. The rocker's self-titled offering saw off competition from acts including Kiss, Iron Maiden and Wolfmother to win the prize at the ceremony, held at London's Roundhouse venue and hosted by Alice Cooper.
Australian stars AC/DC picked up the Band of the Year honor, while Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones was given a standing ovation as he collected his Outstanding Contribution trophy. Three The Black Sabbath legends were honored at the event - bassist Geezer Butler was crowned Metal Guru, and late metal star Ronnie James Dio was remembered with the Tommy Vance Inspiration prize. Former Sabbath frontman Glenn Hughes accepted the Childline Rocks award.
Canadian trio Rush won the Living Legend award, which was picked up by frontman Geddy Lee.

Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood has been honored with Outstanding Contribution award at the 2009 annual Classic Rock Roll of Honor Awards. The 62-year-old rocker received his first ever solo win at the Park Lane Hotel in London Monday.
The late John Bonham of the Led Zeppelin group was also given recognition at the event with the Tommy Vance Inspiration Award, while punk pioneer Iggy Pop was named a Living Legend.
For the Classic Album, Aerosmith took home the honor for their "Rocks" LP. Guitarist Joe Perry accepted the trophy.
Album of the Year went to AC/DC's studio album "Black Ice," released in October 2008, while Band of the Year was won by Iron Maiden.
