In the modern era of cinema, the superhero genre of movies has taken the box office by storm. These movies attracted a lot of attention from fans as we witnessed throughout the last decade, and massive comic franchises like Marvel and DC making their own cinematic universes was also a big reason for the same.

A lot of A-listers have already made their debut in the genre over the last few years. Jeremy Allen White once also had a chance to be a part of a major superhero movie but the actor allegedly missed out on the opportunity due to his attitude issues.

“The Sadness Will Last Forever”: The life of wrestler Kevin Von Erich could probably be described by the iconic final words of Vincent Van Gogh. Sean Darkin’s Von Erich biopic, titled The Iron Claw, is the depiction of that story, which is inarguably one of the saddest possible ones to grace cinema in recent years. My head still hurts thanks to the amount of tears the movie made me shed during its final ten minutes, which only indicates that Darkin has nailed it—and so has the cast, led by an impeccable Zac Efron as Kevin, in his career-best performance. We’re going to dissect, discuss, and attempt to find the answer to the biggest question this movie floats, regarding the existence of a curse in the ill-fated Texas-based family, and hopefully find some solace by the end of the article.

Stars: Holt McCallany, Harris Dickinson, Jeremy Allen White, Stanley Simons, Zac Efron, Maura Tierney, Lily James | Written and Directed by Sean Durkin
For his third film, writer/director Sean Durkin delivers a feature based on the tragic true story of the Von Erich family. Believing that he was denied the chance to become a wrestling champion, the embittered Fritz Von Erich (Holt McCallany) has driven his sons to take that chance and become victorious. Set across the 1980s, The Iron Claw captures the familial triumphs and the tragedies which befell them inside and outside the ring.
As the Von Erich’s driving force, whether they like it or not, McCallany exceptionally brings alive the domineering father who uses his sons to achieve his unfulfilled dreams. There is never a threat of the character becoming cartoonish, as the verbally abusive figure proclaims his manipulations as being for the family’s good.

For my money, The Iron Claw was one of the best films of 2023. Many JoBlo readers seemed to agree, with our review for the movie getting loads of clicks, and so far, it seems to be doing quite well in our annual Golden Schmoes awards. It also did quite well at the domestic box office, grossing about $35 million, which is significantly more than other, more hyped awards contenders like Poor Things, American Fiction, and The Holdovers. Even still, it was mostly shut out of the main awards conversation despite career-best work from star Zac Efron, who plays the last surviving Von Erich brother, Kevin.
So, if you happened to miss The Iron Claw in theatres, now’s your chance to catch up with director Sean Durkin’s take on the infamous “Curse of the Von Erichs” with it making its VOD debut today. You can get it through whatever streamer you like the most,...

A career-best turn from Zac Efron, plus a tide of true-life triumph and tragedy, power director Sean Durkin’s bone-crunching drama
“There’s nothing fake about what we do,” says wrestler Kevin Von Erich. He’s fielding a coy question from flirtatious fan (and girlfriend in waiting) Pam (Lily James), and he fervently believes what he’s saying. She, reasonably, asks him how anyone can call themselves a “world champion” wrestler when so much of what plays out in the ring is “pre-arranged”. Kevin argues that the performance is the point; that the difference between a Speedo-clad lunk sweating it out on the provincial circuit and a bona fide champion boils down to self-belief and the quality of the show that they put on for the audience.
And this is a central idea in writer-director Sean Durkin’s powerful third film, a factually based account of the larger-than-real-life Von Erich wrestling dynasty,...

In the grand scale of things, humans are pretty fragile creatures. Our power comes from out intelligence, cooperation and tool use, not from our physical abilities – and if you disagree with that, go argue the point with a lion. That said, there is a longstanding tendency amongst some men to believe that if they can only muscle up enough, they can dominate everything else in their environment and achieve success. The combination of sport and showmanship that is professional wrestling allows this dream to come true, to an extent. Fritz Von Erich (Holt McCallanay – who is introduced in black and white when his sons are still small and he still believes he can become heavyweight champion of the world – argues that by being the toughest and the strongest, his family members can be safe. “Ever since I was a child, people said my family was cursed,” reflects...

Of all the characters in the wrestling biopic "The Iron Claw," it's patriarch Fritz Von Erich (Holt McCallany) who comes out looking the worst. As his sons slowly but surely fall apart in their pursuit of wrestling (and their pursuit of their father's approval), Fritz is right there egging them on, pushing them further and further toward the brink.
Although the real-life Kevin Von Erich still considers his father to have been an "honorable, good man," the rest of the world considers Fritz to be a bit of a villain, holding him at least a little bit to blame for three of his sons (not just two like in the movie) dying by suicide, and a fourth dying from the stress wrestling and drugs put on his body. The movie itself follows along with this view, giving us a Fritz who pushes forth a limited,...

Many folks discovered actor Holt McCallany in his brawny breakout role as FBI analyst Bill Tench in David Fincher’s serial killer series “Mindhunter” (Netflix). McCallany, who is 60, brought an old-fashioned robust masculinity over three decades to countless smaller roles, from Fincher’s “Alien 3” and “Fight Club” to Guillermo del Toro’s “Nightmare Alley.”
“Del Toro is one of the kindest, smartest and most gifted filmmakers,” said McCallany over Zoom. “The only thing is, he wouldn’t let me do my own stunts. ‘Guillermo. I can do it! Believe in me!’ I get run over by a car by Bradley Cooper. They let me do the part where I get smashed in the face by the bumper, but he wouldn’t let me roll over.”

Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series spotlighting the year’s most talked-about scripts continues with The Iron Claw, which tells the saga of the wrestling Von Erich family in two hours.
It begins with Fritz Von Erich (Holt McCallany), who wrestled in the ’60s. When they were old enough, Fritz got his sons Kevin (Zac Efron) and David (Harris Dickinson) in the ring, eventually training Mike (Stanley Simons) too. Kerry (Jeremy Allen White) only turned to wrestling after his Olympic hopes in 1980 were dashed by the U.S. boycott.
The A24 film is named after the Von Erichs’ signature move, but like any biopic, consolidating the life of its subject requires craft. In the case of the Von Erich family, that meant four brothers were all the film could handle. Youngest brother Chris Von Erich, who took his own life at age 21, is not included.

A new year is upon us, which means there’s a fresh batch of wishful thinking to keep fans busy as they attempt to remember to scribble the correct date on essential documents. Stoking the fire of idealism about a return for David Fincher’s Mindhunter series is Holt McCallany, who says Fincher has thought about bringing back his disturbing episodic thriller. McCallany plays Bill Tench, an FBI agent who co-founded the Behavioral Science Unit, in Fincher’s unnerving thriller.
Mindhunter has the following synopsis: Catching a criminal often requires the authorities to get inside the villain’s mind to figure out how he thinks. That’s the job of FBI agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench. They attempt to understand and catch serial killers by studying their damaged psyches. Along the way, the agents pioneer the development of modern serial-killer profiling.

The Iron Claw is full of bruises. The family at the center of writer-director Sean Durkin’s film, the Von Erichs (a stage name much different than their surname Adkisson), revels in ring-induced contusions. The bodies of the boys in the ring take a collective beating, a constant amount of pressure and pleasure from winning wrestling bouts often organized by their father and coach, Jack (Holt McCallany). Durkin’s biopic initially celebrates the glory in the ring, but as time passes and the young men fall one-by-one, the filmmaker focuses on the moments before and after each match, on muscles about to break, on psyches hanging by a thread, on the sheer weight of generational masculinity forcing its way into their heads.

A classic coming-of-age story from the 1970s finally found its way to the screen, and 2023 also served up yet another delightful adaptation of an Agatha Christie novel.

This article discusses the real-life story of The Von Erichs and as such could be viewed as containing spoilers for "The Iron Claw."
Sean Durkin's "The Iron Claw" is the tearjerker film of the year, one that I called "emotionally eviscerating" in my review as it takes a folkloric look at the real-life tragedies of the Von Erich wrestling dynasty. The film focuses on Kevin, David, Kerry, and Mike Von Erich throughout the 1980s and early '90s, a decade filled with unimaginable deaths and heartache. Despite this, "The Iron Claw" ends with a bit of optimism, and a cathartic release for Kevin Von Erich, known as "The Last of the Von Erichs." The film ends sometime in the 1990s and given the harrowing true story at the center of the film, non-wrestling fans might be wondering what happened to Kevin Von Erich and the rest of the family in the years that followed.

[This story contains spoilers for The Iron Claw and A Murder at the End of the World.]
Harris Dickinson is having a December to remember.
The rising English actor has concluded 2023 with two standout roles in Sean Durkin’s The Iron Claw and Brit Marling/Zal Batmanglij’s A Murder at the End of the World. In the former, Dickinson plays professional wrestler David Von Erich, the third of Fritz Von Erich’s (Holt McCallany) six sons, and the second out of five to suffer a tragic fate. The role has a lot in common with Dickinson’s other current role as Bill “Fangs” Farrah on A Murder at the End of the World, as both characters’ deaths set their respective stories in motion.
Oddly enough, Dickinson has played the first major domino to fall on two other occasions, starting with 2021’s The King’s Man and then 2022’s Where the Crawdads Sing. Each death is central to their narrative,...

The Stone Cold Stunner. The People's Elbow. Sweet Chin Music. The Figure Four. 619. There are some moves in the world of professional wrestling that are so well-known they can be identified by non-wrestling fans outside of the squared circle. And now, one of the most compelling submission moves in wrestling history — the Iron Claw — is the title of Sean Durkin's heartbreaking drama about the Von Erich family. During an Iron Claw, the wrestler places all five fingers over the face of their opponent and squeezes as hard as they can into the temples. It's one of the most evocative moves in a wrestler's arsenal because there's no way to "fake" it. The audience can see a bare hand over an agonized face, giving the impression that if the wrestler didn't stop ... they could crush a skull like an empty soda can.
And no one could do it like Fritz Von Erich.

The outcomes in wrestling might be staged, but the pain is very real. Pro wrestlers grapple, smash, and slam each other around for our amusement, and several documentaries and features already consider the long-term physical and emotional effects of life in the ring. But Sean Durkin’s The Iron Claw might be the best of them, a heartbreaking true story about one of the sport’s biggest dynasties and the curse they sought to climb out from under.
The film begins with Fritz Von Erich (Holt McCallany) in the ring, delivering his famous finishing move – from which the film gets its name – to an opponent as his fans cheer him on. But the majority of the film follows him in his career as a promoter in Texas, where his true iron grip is on his sons, each of whom he trains and berates in order to help them secure what...

As a dyed-in-the-wool wrestling fan, Sean Durkin's "The Iron Claw" was one of my most anticipated films of 2023. Based on the real-life story of the Von Erich wrestling dynasty (real last name Adkisson), the film features Zac Efron as Kevin Von Erich, Jeremy Allen White as Kerry Von Erich, Harris Dickinson as David Von Erich (my personal favorite of the Von Erich brothers), Stanley Simons as Mike Von Erich, Holt McCallany as Fritz Von Erich, and Maura Tierney as Doris Adkisson. For wrestling fans, the Von Erich story is the stuff of infamy, a dark moment in the industry's history that weighs heavy on the hearts of multiple generations. Pulling off "The Iron Claw" would be no easy feat for those involved, but the result is one of the best films of 2023.

Amid all the Christmas tentpole movies, a legitimately great film is getting a quiet release, with A24’s The Iron Claw now in theaters. A devastating account of the rise and fall of the Von Erich family, whose rumoured curse claimed the lives of no less than five brothers, it’s up there with the year’s best movies. It features a towering, career-best role for star Zac Efron, who plays Kevin Von Erich, a journeyman wrestler who lacks the flash and sizzle of his younger siblings but tries to hold them all together. The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White and Harris Dickinson star as two of his beloved, ill-fated younger brothers, Kerry and David, while Holt McCallany and Maura Tierney play their parents. McCallany’s Fritz Von Erich might have been the villain of a more simplistic telling of the Von Erich story. Still, the reality was that he was a complicated man who,...

Three things in life will consistently make me cry: Dogs being reunited with their owners after long periods of absence, when the Iron Giant says "Superman" at the end of "The Iron Giant," and professional wrestlers crying. Ladies and gentlemen, get ready to …watch another sports-themed movie! Sheesh and people whine about a “glut” of superhero flicks! So far this year we’ve got four or five “sports flicks”, the latest being the soccer comedy Next Goal Wins. Now that’s based on a true story, like most of the others. Oh, and two more true sports films finish out the year on Christmas Day. So, what sets this weekend’s release apart from the others? Well, it’s set in the world of professional wrestling in the “go-go” 1980s. Hmm, sounds like lots of campy, flashy fun. And you’d be a bit mistaken. Mind you, there are chuckles but this true tale is really a tragedy, close in spirit to a Greek one or even Shakespeare, but with spandex and mullets. In the center ring…a fable of a wrestling family dynasty whose patriarch gained...

Sean Durkin’s The Iron Claw picks up right where the acclaimed filmmaker’s first two films left off. 2011’s Martha Marcy May Marlene and 2020’s The Nest both received critical praise, as did the staggering performances of Elizabeth Olsen and Carrie Coon, respectively. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Zac Efron is now receiving the best reviews of his career in Durkin’s latest well-received drama about the tragic true story of the Von Erich wrestling family.
The A24 film centers on Efron’s Kevin Von Erich, as he’s the sole survivor of a real-life nuclear family that once included five other sons: Jack Jr, David (Harris Dickinson), Kerry (Jeremy Allen White), Mike (Stanley Simons) and Chris. In a tough decision, Durkin cut the youngest brother, Chris, from the proceeding, since there’s only so much trauma an audience can handle in one two-hour-plus sitting.

The Von Erichs were the first family of Lone Star professional wrestling in the late 1970s and 1980s, a dynasty of Dallas-based all-stars who took on all comers throughout the North Texas circuit. First there was Fritz Von Erich, the patriarch who’d begun his career in the 1950s and eventually became president of the World Class Championship Wrestling organization. Then came Kevin, the second oldest of the Von Erich brood of sons (the oldest, Jack, had died as a child) who was being groomed to be the world heavyweight champion.

Review: The Iron Claw is a film that a lot of people in the movie and professional wrestling communities have been looking forward to. Especially after the episode of Dark Side of the Ring on the Von Erich “curse”, fascination with the subject has soared like a Kevin Von Erich flying crossbody. Especially after the episode of Dark Side of the Ring on the Von Erich “curse”, fascination with the subject has soared like a Kevin Von Erich flying crossbody. For me, too, having loved professional wrestling since I was a child, and having seen a lot of the Von Erich tragedy play out, I wondered how in the world Sean Durkin could turn this into a story that audiences could enjoy.

There’s not much in the world of entertainment that’s more theatrical than professional wrestling. And in the wrestling world, it would be hard to find a story more dramatic than that of the Von Erichs, a family of grapplers who found as much misfortune as fortune and as much infamy as fame during their time within the squared circle. It’s a bit of a surprise that it’s taken so long for that story to be made into a movie. Writer/director Sean Durkin has finally done it, though. He’s brought us The Iron Claw.
The Iron Claw tells the story of the Von Erich family, focusing mainly on patriarch Fritz Von Erich (Holt McCallany) “encouraging” his sons Kevin (Zac Efron), Kerry (Jeremy Allen White), David (Harris Dickinson), and Mike (Stanley Simons) to follow...

Martha Marcy May Marlene director Sean Durkin’s retelling of the cursed Von Erich family, starring Zac Efron, is missing some signature moves
The Iron Claw, written and directed by Sean Durkin, takes its name from the signature move by Fritz Von Erich, the wrestling persona created by Jack Adkisson in the 1950s: an unmovable grip on the face, tight pressure on both temples, paralyzing an opponent to the ground. The move would certainly hurt if applied with effort but, as with most of professional wrestling, it’s hard to tell the line between feat of athleticism and performance, real pressure and theatrics.
Which should be interesting territory for Durkin, whose two previous features, the eerie cult psycho-drama Martha Marcy May Marlene and 80s-set The Nest, are unnerving tangles of the real and imagined, strange comminglings of the supernatural, psychological and social. Like The Nest, The Iron Claw depicts the...

This review contains spoilers for "The Iron Claw."
The world of professional wrestling is filled with enough tragedy to constitute its own dedicated documentary series about it, but there has never been a story of familial annihilation quite like the Von Erichs. Often compared to the Kennedy family, the Von Erichs were/are a dynasty of wrestling superstars and the subject of unimaginable despair. Telling their story outside of a documentary setting seems an impossible task, but Sean Durkin has done the impossible with "The Iron Claw." While marketed as a biopic, "The Iron Claw" is more like a dramatic retelling of the Von Erich story — a legend retold blow by blow and presented as if it were modern folklore. And yet despite the creative liberties taken — including a glaring omission (more on that later) — "The Iron Claw" is the type of drama that makes a home in the darkest...

Gladiators, pain freaks, brutes, clowns, true athletes, fake competitors: The slab-of-meat stars of professional wrestling are all those things. And back in the 1980s, when wrestling was reaching its cultural zenith, it almost looked as if you could divide the world between those who took wrestling on the level and those who dismissed it as a vulgar, over-the-top bad joke.
Yet it was never that simple. Even if you saw through the put-on nature of wrestling, you could still get off on the theater of it as cartoon spectacle. And a great many hard-core wrestling fans were actually in on the joke. They knew, on some level, that they were watching staged antics, yet that didn’t keep them from experiencing it all as “real.” If you’re wondering how that kind of cognitive dissonance works, welcome to the America that pro wrestling helped to usher in — an America in which Donald Trump,...

Writer-director Sean Durkin turns to a childhood obsession with a Texas wrestling dynasty and almost Shakespearean tragedy in The Iron Claw, a gritty, atmospheric, sometimes suffocatingly grim story of the Von Erich brothers, who ruled regional rings in the early ’80s with a then-inventive rock ‘n roll style of wrestling that won them rabid fans but at a cost.
Some families are snake-bit. The Kennedys are one that through the decades met success and unspeakable tragedy equally. The Wallendas, the great family circus trapeze family, also mixed glory with a high-wire act that didn’t always end well for some members. I wasn’t familiar with the Von Erich brothers, a close-knit family of Texas-born and -bred wrestlers managed by a take-no-prisoners father, but Durkin clearly was. He has carried around their story, particularly their premature deaths, in his head for years, finally now finding a way into telling their...

A true-life American tragedy that leverages the summery Texas idyll of “Dazed & Confused” into a larger than life — but heartbreakingly sincere — re-telling of “King Lear,” “The Iron Claw” is a wrestling epic inspired by a legend so sad that writer-director Sean Durkin felt like he had to sand it down in order for it to seem believable on screen. Inverting the fake it so real ethos of a sport that’s long been enjoyed as a form of steroidal theater (its operatic melodrama sustained by the exaggerated nature of its spectacle and vice-versa), Durkin’s film dials back the body count so that the scale of its loss doesn’t make it impossible for audiences to accept that it actually happened, or to exalt in the love that it ultimately left behind.

Zac Efron says getting real-life wrestler Kevin Von Erich’s blessing for ‘The Iron Claw’ was the “most important review” he could get for the biopic. The 36-year-old actor plays Kevin in the film about the showman’s family’s rollercoaster dynasty, and threw himself into the role by undergoing a physical transformation and sporting bowl cut hair. Zac told Variety about meeting the retired wrestler, 66, the night before the Dallas premiere of the film: “I was very curious about what he thought of the movie. “We went out to the patio, sat forehead to forehead, and talked about life for an hour and a half. “And he told me that he did enjoy the movie. I can’t really put into words how that feels. “It’s far and away the most important review to me on so many levels. It meant the world, and everything just came full circle.

With the fall festival circuit firmly in the rearview mirror, many of the most anticipated films of the 2023 fall season have already screened for critics. One of the last films that remained unseen was “The Iron Claw,” Sean Durkin’s new A24 sports drama that tells the story of the Von Erich wrestling family. The film, which stars Zac Efron as Kevin Von Erich and Jeremy Allen White as Kerry Von Erich, premiered in Dallas on Wednesday before screening for critics in Los Angeles on Sunday. And early reactions suggest that A24 could have another hit on its hands.
“The Iron Claw” documents the rapid rise to wrestling superstardom and even quicker fall toward tragedy that befell the Von Erich family. After family patriarch Fritz Von Erich (played by Holt McCallany in the film) built a following as a villainous heel on the wrestling circuit, his sons entered the business in quick succession.

Could professional wrestling be headed back into the Oscars race for the first time since 2008’s The Wrestler? That was one of the questions swirling throughout Dallas last night following the world premiere of The Iron Claw, Sean Durkin’s drama about the tragic rise and fall of the Texas-based Von Erich wrestling family. The film stars Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White, Stanley Simons, Harris Dickinson, Holt McCallany, Maura Tierney, and Lily James, with possible accolades following the principle cast.
We were lucky enough to attend the world premiere on Wednesday evening, and the mood was electric, particularly because of one important piece of breaking news. Literally moments before curtains lifted on The Iron Claw, news broke about the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike, sending the crowd into an uproar. The film had received an interim agreement so that stars Efron, White, Simons, and Dickinson could be on hand for the festivities.

Zac Efron underwent a "shocking" transformation for 'The Iron Claw'.The 36-year-old actor plays real life wrestling legend Kevin Von Erich in a new biopic about his family's rollercoaster dynasty, and he threw himself into the role from getting in ridiculous shape to rocking a bowl cut in revealing attire. He told Entertainment Tonight: "It was shocking at every point of the transformation."I remember Harris [Dickinson] and I were walking out of hair and make-up and it was like the first time we had to wear the full kit, and we were both thinking, 'What the hell are we doing here, man? How did we get into this?'"But I think it ended up looking really good and we had a great crew helping us out with that. The hair and make-up team was epic."Efron took inspiration from Von Erich himself as it came to making sure he...

"The Iron Claw" stars Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White as two members of one of the most famous (or infamous) wrestling families of all time: the Von Erichs. Led by their fierce father, the Von Erich brothers became mainstays of the professional wrestling world in the heyday of the 1980s, but their professional successes were marred by an enormous number of personal tragedies, leading to rumors that they were somehow cursed. In real life, their stories seem to have more mundane explanations, but whatever the cause, the tragedies were devastating nonetheless.
Content warning: The following contains mentions of drug use, eating disorders, and suicide.

Because of the high number of shocking tragedies and early deaths that befell the family - and the highly dramatic nature of the professional wrestling world - rumors have abounded that there is a "curse" on the Von Erichs that led to their demise.

Mom tried to protect us with God. Pop tried to protect us with wrestling. He said if we were the toughest, strongest, nothing would ever hurt us. I believed it. We all did,” explains Efron as Kevin.

Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White grapple with tragedy and triumph as two of the Von Erich brothers in the first look at A24’s wrestling drama The Iron Claw.
The trailer, released on Wednesday, explores how the real-life Erich wrestling empire was built — and brought to the deadly brink — by Jack Adkisson Sr., known professionally as Fritz Von Erich. Efron and White star as Kevin and Kerry, the oldest and middle Von Erich brothers and the favorites of their father.
Both, along with their then-living three siblings, attempt to endure the harsh, unrelenting demands of their influential father as they carry out his vision for the sport, as well as the domestic and international legacy of the pro-wrestling Texan who dominated in the ’60s.
During the more than two-minute trailer, the Von Erich brothers can be seen in and out of the ring, battling opponents and their own demons.

Not all sports stories have a happy ending. On Oct. 11, A24 released the trailer for its upcoming wrestling drama "The Iron Claw," inspired by the real-life wrestling siblings the Von Erichs. In the film, Jeremy Allen White plays Kerry Von Erich, the most famous member of the family; Zac Efron stars as Kevin, and Harris Dickinson plays their brother David. The tense trailer for the '80s-set drama previews some of the unbelievable heartache and loss the family went through - leading to a legend that they were "cursed."
In real life, the family's patriarch, Jack Adkisson (played by Holt McCallany), used the name Fritz Von Erich as his wrestling gimmick when he first broke into the sport in the 1950s. Five of his six children would go on to become professional wrestlers as well. When Fritz died in 1997, five of his six sons had died before him; only Kevin was still alive.

Family success stories, whether in entertainment or sports, often come with the traumatic addition of a domineering father figure who worked his children to the bone. In the official trailer for A24’s forthcoming film The Iron Claw, director Sean Durkin captures the Von Erich brothers’ real-life experience with this formula for achievement and the inseparable, if at times crippling, bond it creates.
“Ever since I was a child, people said My family was cursed,” Kevin Von Erich, portrayed by Zac Efron, states in the trailer. “Mom tried to protect us with God.

For months now, we've been seeing paparazzi photos of Zac Efron looking extremely beefy with a silly haircut, and hearing reports about "The Bear" star Jeremy Allen White's "gross" diet in preparation for the new A24 film, "The Iron Claw." For outsiders looking in, "The Iron Claw" looks like a wrestling drama, and many are thrilled to see the pair of actors step into the squared circle of muscle ballet. However, the average Joe's opinion of wrestling is rooted in the heyday of Hulkamania, the Attitude Era of the late '90s, or through crossover stars who have since become actors. Here's the thing: It's really cool that Allen and Efron are going to be in a wrestling movie, but if you're anticipating something like the extremely fun "Fighting With My Family" starring Florence Pugh or the deeply moving biopic "Cassandro" starring Gael García Bernal ... you're in for a hell of a rude awakening.
