Writer-director Brad J. Silverman’s “Selfie Dad” is a pleasantly predictable faith-based dramedy that has been scheduled and marketed for family viewing over Father’s Day weekend on VOD platforms. As it turns out, however, the timing of its release might actually serve to expand the film’s appeal slightly beyond the usual target audience for similar fare. Indeed, in the context of recent real-life events and Black Lives Matter protests, certain elements of Silverman’s narrative give his film, if only inadvertently, a slightly sharper edge than even he likely intended.

Despite being sued by MGM for using the title Raging Bull II, the Martin Guigui movie about the early life of boxer Jake Lamotta will continue production, but under the new title The Bronx Bull. The Bronx Bull was Lamotta's other nickname, far less popular than the Raging Bull moniker. The studio and producers of The Bronx Bull reached an agreement that the film would no longer utilize the title of the Martin Scorsese film. "Raging Bull 2" is no longer called "Raging Bull 2." As EW.com reports, the controversial sequel to the 1980 classic "Raging Bull" is now titled "The Bronx Bull," the nickname of the film's subject, former boxer Jake Lamotta. Even further, "The Bronx Bull" is not actually a sequel to "Raging Bull" anymore, according to a joint statement from "Raging Bull" studio MGM and "Raging Bull 2" producer Dahlia Waingort.
"The parties have amicably reached a resolution of their pending litigation, pursuant to which production of a film based upon certain events in the life of Jake Lamotta will proceed under the working title 'The Bronx Bull,'" they said. "That film is not related in any way to the 1980 motion picture entitled 'Raging Bull,' and MGM is not associated with the film in any respect. Neither party will have any further statements regarding this matter."

One of the strangest sequel projects in movie history is no longer a sequel. In a joint statement, MGM Studios and Dahlia Waingort, the producer of the film originally known as Raging Bull II, declared on Wednesday that Waingort’s film now has the working title The Bronx Bull, and is in no way associated with Martin Scorsese’s 1980 film Raging Bull.
The announcement resolves a lawsuit brought by MGM in July that attempted to shut down production on the film, which traces the life of boxer Jake Lamotta in the years that span before and after Raging Bull. Lamotta,...

MGM is dropping its lawsuit against the producers of "Raging Bull II" after the filmmakers have agreed to essentially change the film's name says Deadline.
In a joint statement by MGM and Sunset Pictures’ COO Dahlia Waingort, it has been said that “The parties have amicably reached a resolution of their pending litigation, pursuant to which production of a film based upon certain events in the life of Jake Lamotta will proceed under the working title ‘The Bronx Bull.’
That film is not related in any way to the 1980 motion picture entitled ‘Raging Bull,’ and MGM is not associated with the film in any respect. Neither party will have any further statements regarding this matter.”
Earlier this month MGM sued the producers and Lamotta himself citing breach of contract and other counts.
