This news should hardly come as a surprise, but Netflix appear keen to remain in the Sherlock Holmes business for a while yet. Enola Holmes put the famed detective’s kid sister front and center, and went on to break records as one of the platform’s biggest premieres ever.
Millie Bobby Brown looks to have landed herself a starring role in a franchise, and with five more books in the literary series to adapt, it seems a foregone conclusion that the streaming service will officially announce a sequel in the near future, especially once they crunch the numbers and determine just how big of a success the movie really is.
Of course, it would be an understatement to say that Henry Cavill’s Sherlock went down a storm with subscribers, and there have already been whispers that the Dceu’s Superman could get his own solo spinoff, even if...

You don’t come out of working in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a decade without high aspirations and some good ideas—nor without the resources and star power to potentially make them happen. This is the case for Robert Downey Jr. who, after helping Marvel to launch the McU and working as a key part of the ever-growing franchise for almost 10 years, wants to use what he’s learned to grow another franchise: Sherlock Holmes.
“At this point, we really feel that there is not a mystery-verse built out anywhere, and Conan Doyle is the definitive voice in that arena, I think, to this day,” Downey said during a keynote panel at the Fast Company Innovation Festival on Monday (via Fast Company), referring to the already-existing Sherlock Holmes franchise he helped launch back in 2009. “So to me, why do a third movie if you’re not going to be...

Not for the first time, Warner Bros. and Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman reboot has been described as a noir-driven detective story for the Caped Crusader.
The film, starring Robert Pattinson as our new Bruce Wayne, is targeting a primetime release in the summer of 2021, with Warner Bros. now expected to jump-start production after amassing what is undoubtedly one of the most impressive ensemble casts we’ve ever laid eyes on.
And there’s a good reason Warner has filled its boots with top-tier stars; The Batman will reportedly be angled as a Sherlock Holmes-esque story, with the likes of Catwoman (Irene Adler), The Riddler (Moriarty) and Gordon (John Watson) drawing influence from Arthur Conan Doyle’s world-famous detective stories.
Here’s a Bat-shaped tidbit, courtesy of Thomas Polito:

Sherlock season 4 hasn’t gone down as the fandom’s favorite run, and it sounds like it wasn’t the best experience for one of the show’s stars, either. John Watson himself, Martin Freeman, has admitted that filming on the possibly final outing of the hit BBC detective series “wasn’t that much fun” as he was experiencing a tumultuous time in his personal life at that point.
Speaking with BBC Radio 4’s Lauren Laverne on Desert Island Discs, Freeman opened up about his split from longtime partner Amanda Abbington back in 2016. Abbington, of course, also starred on Sherlock as John’s wife Mary. This naturally made shooting episodes together while they had actual personal drama in their home life difficult. However, the actor also stressed that typically his experience working with Abbington was “great.”

Part “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” part “Mighty Joe Young,” and part “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” — to cite three of writer-director Chris Butler’s most explicit references — “Missing Link” is a sweet, touching, and seriously fun adventure comedy about two lost souls who are struggling to reconcile yesterday with tomorrow in their bid to belong in a world that refuses to make room for them. Set in the Victorian era but progressive in almost every major aspect of its narrative and design, Laika’s fifth feature may lack the weight and urgency of the studio’s previous work, but it reaffirms the studio’s commitment to a future that comes in all shapes and sizes.

No other Martin Freeman-fronted project – be it a movie or TV show – has resonated with its viewers quite like Sherlock.
At least, that’s according to the man himself, who spoke to The Guardian (h/t Digital Spy) about the challenges of playing a character as iconic as Dr. John Watson, and why it’s nigh on impossible to please Sherlock fans.
Freeman has weighed in on the fandom debate before, and even got into hot water when his comments were blown out of proportion on Twitter, but now, the actor and former McU star focuses on the unrealistic expectations set by a small portion of fans, and why they have the potential to ruin the overall viewing experience.
Via The Guardian:
Probably nothing I’ve done… has resonated with certain parts of the world’s population the same way Sherlock has… It just hit a lot of buttons for people.

Warner Bros. has officially given Sherlock Holmes 3 a release date! That date is December 25th, 2020, which happens to be a week after James Cameron's Avatar is released.
Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law will reprise their roles as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. There's no word on who will be directing the film, but Guy Ritchie directed the first two movies. I assumed he would come back for the third, but maybe the studio is looking to change things up.
We have no idea what the plot of the third film will be, but I'm curious to see who the evil mastermind is that they take on next. I loved the first two films and I think I actually liked the sequel more than the first. Jared Harris as Professor James Moriarty was just so perfect. He's going to be a hard villain to beat.

Well, at long last it’s official: Sherlock Holmes 3 is happening, folks, and it’ll be here in time for Christmas 2020. Yes, that’s right, Warner Bros. has finally dated the long gestating threequel, setting it for release on December 25th, 2020.
Though it was once set to hop in front of the cameras all the way back in 2016, the pic unfortunately fell by the wayside over the years, as Robert Downey Jr.’s Marvel Cinematic Universe commitments began to grow – which is, admittedly, understandable. Warner Bros. had been busy assembling a writer’s room to put together the script, but that was well over a year ago. Since then, things had gone quiet but now, it seems as if the gears are starting to turn.

Though it was once set to hop in front of the cameras all the way back in 2016, Sherlock Holmes 3 unfortunately fell by the wayside as Robert Downey Jr.’s Marvel Cinematic Universe commitments began to grow – which is, admittedly, understandable. Last we heard, Warner Bros. had assembled a writer’s room to put together the script, but that was well over a year ago and since then, there’s been little to no movement on the project.
Still, it sounds like the studio’s keen on the idea of reuniting Rdj with his literal partner-in-crime, Jude Law – who plays John Watson – and director Guy Ritchie. It’s that core trifecta that brought Sherlock Holmes to international success some years ago, even factoring in the somewhat disappointing sequel, A Game of Shadows. The decidedly British aesthetic coupled with Downey Jr.’s charismatic and enjoyable turn as the world-famous detective was a hit with moviegoers and now,...

Sherlock Holmes has seen countless screen adaptations and spinoffs across the world, but for the first time, the iconic British private detective will be reincarnated as a woman for Asian audiences.
HBO Asia will on Friday premiere <em>Miss Sherlock</em>, which also marks the network's first Japanese production, featuring eight episodes shot over a period of four months. In addition to starring actress Yuko Takeuchi as the titular Miss Sherlock, the series' equivalent of Dr. John Watson is also played by a woman (portrayed by actress Shihori Kanjiya).

Last month, Sherlock fans were given a hard pill to swallow when star Martin Freeman – who plays the beloved John Watson on the phenomenally successful BBC detective show – complained that making the drama wasn’t “fun anymore” due to increasing fan expectations which made it impossible to live up to the hype.
Freeman’s comments came out during an interview with The Telegraph and now, as he’s doing the rounds to promote Avengers: Infinity War, Benedict Cumberbatch has chatted with the same publication. Of course, The Telegraph couldn’t resist pressing the Doctor Strange actor for his own opinions on the matter to see if he agrees with his co-star at all. It seems that Cumberbatch is definitely on the side of the fans here, even going so far as to call Freeman’s words “pathetic.”

It seems that Sherlock stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have a difference of opinion when it comes to the current direction of the Masterpiece series at PBS.
In an interview last month with The Telegraph, Freeman, who plays the titular character’s partner-in-solving-crime John Watson, referred to the show as a “mini-Beatles thing.” He said by the fourth season, making Sherlock has become “kind of impossible.” His constructive criticism continued and he added that with the expectations of the show’s fanbase, “it’s not fun anymore.”
Cumberbatch, who plays the iconic and eccentric titular sleuth, chimed in on Freeman’s critiques in a recent interview with The Telegraph.
“It’s pretty pathetic if that’s all it takes to let you not want to take a grip of your reality,” said Cumberbatch. “What, because of expectations? I don’t know. I don’t necessarily agree with that…...

Last month, Sherlock co-star Martin Freeman managed to impugn the BBC series’ future single-handedly. The McU actor decried that making the show is “not fun anymore” due to the lofty expectations of fanatics, made worse by a portion of the fandom who desire that Freeman’s John Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock Holmes become romantically entangled.
During an interview with The Telegraph, Freeman elaborated, saying:
“There was a chunk of people who just knew it was going to end with us getting together. Me and Ben, we have literally never, never played a moment like lovers. We ain’t f***ing lovers.”
The series, based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective stories, has fallen out of favour in recent years, starting with the mediocre 2015 Christmas Special, “The Abominable Bride.” Sherlock then followed a trio of superbly acted and intellectually exciting seasons with a fourth outing that satisfied no one.

We look at how Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves came to be, what worked, and what didn't.
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
It tends to be a forgotten fact that, in the late 1980s, there were actually three competing Robin Hood projects fighting for a greenlight. A trio of separate scripts were being developed by Tristar Pictures, 20th Century Fox, and Morgan Creek Productions, and the only one that would go forward to become a movie would, ultimately, be the Robin Hood screenplay that Kevin Costner decided he wanted to make.
Of the three, the Tristar project was apparently barely in the running. But for a long time, it looked as if 20th Century Fox would win this particular race. It had a director on board, with John McTiernan – hot off the back of Die Hard and in the midst of The Hunt For Red October...
