Tucker and Dale vs Evil star Tyler Labine may have traded in the Hillbilly dungarees for a polo shirt and cargo shorts, but the film’s spirit is alive and well in Cottage Country, a witty woodland comedy horror with more than its own share of laughs. Look, stop reading this and go watch it already. Its twisty, constantly churning story is best viewed unspoiled.

I was doing what many customers of Netflix do, browsing the catalogue of films on offer with a far-away look in my eye, unable to choose what to watch as the evening got later and later. As a fan of Tyler Labine from his work in Tucker and Dale versus Evil, I decided to give this movie a shot.
Also starring Malin Akerman (27 Dresses, Rock of Ages), Cottage Country is a comedy movie with elements of thriller, horror and romance, and is directed by Peter Wellington, who, from what I can tell, has only really been responsible for a few television movies, and random episodes of television shows I know little to nothing about.

There’s a magical place in Canada, a 306 square mile piece of Canadian Shield dotted with huge, deep lakes set in a beautiful wilderness. It’s a playground for the rich – including Tom Hanks, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn and Martin Short plus politicians, athletes and old money Americans and Canadians. The axe murder horror farce Cottage Country turns its aspirational relaxation vibe on its head as brothers battle it out for cottage visitation rights. Todd (Tyler Labine) plans to propose to Cammie his fiancée (Malin Ackerman) but his brother and his drug addled girlfriend show up unexpectedly. We spoke with director Peter Wellington who calls the film a cautionary tale. Peter Wellington: To people...

Canada, 2013
Are people experiencing any fatigue with the decades old ‘cabin in the woods’ horror routine wherein a small party of reasonably innocent individuals opt to spend some much desired vacation in a solitary cabin in the wilderness, only to be chased, mauled, haunted or possessed by the nebulous forces of evil? Evidently not given that so many such movies are still produced on a consistent basis, yet every now and then a creative team cracks the code to making one that feels genuinely different. 2012′s Cabin in the Woods is one such film, and so is the Canadian made Cottage Country, from director Peter Wellington and screenwriter Jeremy Boxen.

Horror Is Child’S Play – Don Mancini’S Curse Of Chucky (World Premiere)

With veterans of such minor modern genre classics as "Hobo With a Shotgun" (producers Paul Gross and Frank Siracusa) and "Tucker and Dale vs Evil" (Tyler Labine) on the roster, it's difficult to see how director Peter Wellington's dark comedy "Cottage Country" could go wrong. In the film's trailer, below, Todd Chipowski (Labine) sees a romantic weekend idyll at his family's lake house turn sour due to his interloping brother (Dan Petronijevic), who he ends up catching in the neck with an axe. Chaos ensues as the hapless Todd conspires with his fiancée (Malin Akerman) to dispose of the evidence and do away with his brother's lady friend (Lucy Punch) before she gets wise. Clumsy and inept in the mechanics of both love and murder, the bloodied pair's deeds become increasingly grisly and frantic. The film, slated originally for 2012 release, is currently seeking a distributor at the American Film Market.

Tyler Labine returns for more horrific laughs in new murderous comedy 'Cottage Country'. The 'Tucker and Dale vs Evil' star plays Todd in the Peter Wellington helmed flick who heads to the country for a quiet getaway but his peaceful family vacation soon takes a bloody turn when his irritating brother turns up and soon after gets the chop...literally. Labine is joined by Brit actress Lucy Punch ('Hot Fuzz'), Benjamin Ayres, Sabrina Grdevich and the stunning Malin Akerman -below ('Watchmen') and the new sales trailer plus artwork have arrived to begin its teasing trails towards theatres sometime in 2013....

Whizbang Films has kicked off production on Cottage Country, which co-stars the lovely Malin Akerman, who drove fan boys wild as the second Silk Specter in Watchmen, and Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil‘s hefty and hilarious hillbilly Tyler Labine. As you can probably predict from the pairing of hot chick and schlubby dude, Cottage Country is a romance-centered comedy in which Labine and Akerman are a couple. More specifically, Labine plays Todd, a besotted young man whose looking to craft the perfect marriage proposal by taking his stunning girlfriend Cammie (Akerman) to his family’s quaint cottage. However, his plans are all for naught once his shiftless brother Salinger (Daniel Petronijevic) crashes their romantic weekend along with his dippy gal-pal Masha (the underrated Lucy Punch). Then, things turn dark when Todd’s mounting rage boils over into accidental fratricide, but Cammie sees no reason this needs to get in...

Former "Breaker High" star Tyler Labine does his best Ryan Gosling (circa The Notebook) and shows off his wood-chopping skills in this first photo from upcoming dark comedy Cottage Country.
The two, of course, played best buds in the late-'90s TV series about kids who went to school on a cruise ship - is that what it was really about? - and while nothing much became of this Gosling character (As If) Labine has scored spots in shows like "Reaper," "Mad Love," "Boston Legal" and recently took top billing in horror-comedy Tucker & Dale vs Evil.
Now he takes the lead in Peter Wellington's ("Slings & Arrows") pitch-black family comedy that finds him accidentally offing his slacker brother Salinger with, you guessed it, an axe.
Oops.

Toronto -- The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. is ready to pick up locally produced single-camera comedy "18 to Life," even with pilot partner ABC out of the picture.
The Montreal-set sitcom, from indie producer Galafilm, portrays 18-year-old neighbors, played by Stacey Farber and Michael Seater, who get married on a dare only to face criticism from their parents and friends.
Last summer, ABC brokered a deal with Alchemy Television for U.S. rights to "18 to Life," marking the first time a Canadian and a U.S. network partnered on a Canadian primetime comedy. But while the U.S. network screened the Canadian pilot, it said Tuesday that it is no longer involved with the project.
Rounding out the sitcom's cast are Peter Keleghan, Al Goulem, Ellen David and newcomers Tommie-Amber Pirie and Ariel Shiri.
Derek Schreyer and Karen Troubetzkoy created and executive produced the sitcom, with Ian Whitehead producing and Peter Wellington directing the pilot.
