You all remember 2012’s comic adaptation of Bad Kids Go To Hell, right? Probably not. Most seem to have missed Matthew Spradlin’s under-the-radar private school thriller, but – nevertheless – Ben Browder makes his directorial debut with the film’s follow-up sequel, Bad Kids Of Crestview Academy. Once again, a handful of rebellious, not-so-angelic students find themselves serving a deadly detention sentence where anything goes. Sex, drugs and adorable kitten videos – these kids are anarchists to the core, soaked in spoiled-teens-so-rotten-you-want-them-dead appeal. Welcome back to creator Barry Wernick’s educational house of horrors, just don’t mind the stripped-down nature of this barebones continuation.
Sammi Hanratty stars as Siouxsie Hess, a Crestview student seeking vengeance after the death of her sister Alyson (Ashlyn McEvers). Not too long ago, the academy held a party where Siouxsie’s sister supposedly committed suicide. A handful of students corroborated the same story, all of whom...

The Breakfast Club anthem "Don't You (Forget About Me)" might start playing in your head when you think of Saturday detention, but the troublemakers at Crestview Academy have a lot more to worry about than Principal Vernon during their weekend punishment in the official trailer for Bad Kids of Crestview Academy.
Synopsis: "Based on the best-selling graphic novel series, a group of spoiled “bad kids” have been placed in Saturday detention at the prestigious Crestview Academy. After one of the kids locks away their teacher, they find themselves trapped in school with no way out, wondering who (or what) set them up. Their ranks quickly dwindle as each falls victim to a gruesome “accident” while trying to escape."

Originally conceived some eight years ago by Matthew Spradlin, Bad Kids Go To Hell (the movie’s original title) originally debuted as a four issue comic mini-series from Antarctic Press in 2009. Fast forward to 2014 and the film, now re-titled Haunting of Crestview High silently hits the UK market courtesy of 101 Films, without all the hype that surrounded the 2012 Us release – which may not actually be a bad thing.
Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the film but I don’t think it ever lives up to the hype that surrounded its original Us release – which is maybe why the films UK debut took a couple of years – but as a fan of the John Hughes canon of films...

It's hard to know what to make of the indie horror satire Bad Kids Go to Hell simply because the flick has no freaking idea what it is. That's not to say that a low-budget genre film has to fit into any specific category, but here's an example of a potentially novel idea and some solid production value being used in service of... what? At first Bad Kids Go to Hell seems (a lot) like a late-arriving horror version of The Breakfast Club, but early in the film one of the characters dismisses the widely-adored '80s dramedy as little more than empty-headed teen angst nonsense.
So is Bad Kids Go to Hell some sort of chaotic piece of pop culture weirdness like the recent (and somewhat similar) Detention? Not really because it's slavishly beholden to a ton of backstory and chit-chat that accomplishes little besides slow the movie down...

Director: Matthew Spradlin. Writers: Matthew Spradlin and Barry Wernick. Cast: Judd Nelson, Ben Browder, Amanda Alch, Marc Donato, Augie Duke, Roger Edwards, Ali Faulkner, Cameron Deane Stewart, Jeffrey Schmidt and Chanel Ryan. Bad Kids Go to Hell has undergone a few transformations. Originally, this piece was a script and then a graphic novel. Over the course of six years, Bad Kids Go to Hell made its way into a cinematic form. And, Matthew Spradlin's first movie as director introduces a lot of conflict, a few comedic moments and perhaps, too much conniving. This title pays homage to a few classics, mostly The Breakfast Club and Carrie. Sadly, Bad Kids Go to Hell is only occasionally entertaining. The film begins as an homage to 1985's The Breakfast Club. Six students are locked into the school's library to serve a Saturday detention. The jock, the nerd, the goth, the princess and...

Well, just in case you still have any doubts about this movie, we’re here to share the first clip from Bad Kids Go To Hell and to inform you that you have nothing to worry about – it looks pretty cool actually. As you already know & see from our title, the movie opens today, so consider this report as a quick reminder or something like that. Let’s go!
Directed by Matthew Spradlin, the movie is based on the best-selling comic book of the same name written by Barry Wernick and Anthony Vargas.
It follows six private school students from Crestview Academy, home to the spoiled offspring of society’s elite, who find themselves stuck in detention on a frightfully dark and stormy Saturday afternoon. During their 8-hour detention, each of the six kids falls victim to a horrible “accident” until only one of them remains.

I kicked the comic book habit a while ago, so I was not acquainted with a graphic novel by Matthew Spradlin and Anthony Vargas called Bad Kids Go to Hell. But now that it's been made into a movie, which opens today, I've heard of it. In fact, I've even located the trailer and embedded it below for you, dear reader. You know, just in case you're as lame as I am and haven't heard of it either.
The big screen adaptation was directed by Spradlin and written by Spradlin and Barry Wernick. Based on the trailer, it looks like a humorous cross between Poltergeist and The Breakfast Club. In fact, Judd Nelson even has a role, a bit of stunt casting that helps the whole John Hughes tie-in.
Now I have no idea how closely the film follows the comic, but let's play a game. We'll look at the...

As a teenager going to detention can really suck. All your friends are out chillin' and you're sitting there staring at a desk with a bunch of other mindless idiots who got busted for something incredibly lame. Thankfully every now and then death arrives to spice things up!
Screen Daily has a bit more news coming out of Cannes, this time concerning the comedy thriller Bad Kids Go to Hell, which hails from from Matthew Spradlin based on the screenplay he adapted with Barry Wernick from the graphic novel of the same name. “The story follows six children at an elite prep school who die one-by-one while serving detention over the course of a stormy afternoon.”
In the flick, which is described as The Breakfast Club meets The Grudge, Judd Nelson, Amanda Alch, Marc Donato, Augie Duke, Roger Edwards, Ali Faulkner, Cameron Deane Stewart and Ben Browder will star. Red...

There’s nothing I like more than seeing an indie comic book series become an indie film. Exciting casting news comes from the live-action adaptation of Matt Spradlin and Barry Wernick’s hit comic book series, Bad Kids Go to Hell (2009), that has been described as The Breakfast Club meets The Grudge.
According to BigFanBoy, Farscape’s Ben Browder has joined the cast along with Judd Nelson. Browder will play Max, “the mysterious janitor of the school.” Fans of the comic will know how important this role is in the storyline. Nelson has been cast as Headmaster Nash. Check out the synopsis for Bad Kids Go To Hell below:
“The Breakfast Club meets The Grudge in this sexy, dark comedy-thriller! Six prep school kids from Crestview Academy, home to the spoiled offspring of society’s elite, find themselves stuck in detention on a frightfully dark and stormy Saturday afternoon. During their 8 hour incarceration,...

Oh, “Farscape”, will we ever get you back on the air? Probably not in my lifetime, but one can dream, right? Ben Browder, star of “Farscape”, gave us something approaching “Farscape”-lite when he took over the male lead in the last few seasons of “Stargate: SG1″ alongside his “Farscape” love interest Claudia Black (and though the two never hooked up on the show, the show’s producers sure gave us a couple of teasing episodes), and now Browder will be ensuring that those evil bad kids go to hell in the live-action adaptation of Matt Spradlin and Barry Wernick’s “Bad Kids go to Hell” comic book. Bigfanboy says that Browder would play Max, a mysterious janitor in the movie. The role is described as an “important” one, which makes sense as the movie seems to have a pretty unknown cast minus Browder and former ’80s guy Judd Nelson,...

Loyal sci-fi fans tend to follow their favorite actors to other projects (just ask Nathan Fillion or his legion of supporters), so the team behind Matthew Spradlin.s Bad Kids Go To Hell might have just made a very beneficial casting decision. According to a report on BigFanBoy, the adaptation of Spradlin and Barry Wernick.s cult graphic novel currently filming in Texas has added Farscape and Stargate Sg-1 star Ben Browder to an ensemble that already includes .80s holdover Judd Nelson. The casting of Breakfast Club star Nelson is a nod to the story.s roots, as Bad Kids follows a gaggle of snobby high schoolers who are getting picked off while attending detention one afternoon. Browder would play the janitor, who ends up having an important role in the proceedings (though we.ll avoid spoiling the fun for you). But will it amount to more tickets being sold?...

This past weekend at the San Diego Comic Con, I got the opportunity to stop by the Antarctic Press Entertainment booth and met the creators of Bad Kids Go to Hell. What would happen to the Breakfast Club if instead of just dealing with teenage angst and a hard-nosed disciplinarian they had to worry about a curse caused by all of their parents building a library over a sacred Apache Indian burial ground? Bad Kids Go to Hell explores this scenario as four members of a pretentious high school’s elite class find themselves in detention with a kid from the wrong side of...
