The last time TV audiences saw Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott – detective fiction’s reigning will-they-won’t-they king and queen – they were hugging outside a fancy perfume shop. The private investigators had solved Troubled Blood’s cold case, exposed a serial killer, and had time left over for some belated birthday shopping for the newly divorced Robin.
An almost-kiss between them turned into a heartfelt hug and Strike’s declaration that Robin was his best friend, leaving them still tantalisingly apart but ready for their next adventure.
That next adventure is now on its way, confirms Deadline and the BBC. Filming is currently underway on The Ink Black Heart, with Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger back in the lead roles, and Tom Edge back as the show’s screenwriter and creator.

This piece contains spoilers for Enola Holmes 2.
The first official case for young Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown) starts with a missing girl: factory worker named Sarah Chapman (Hannah Dodd). But as Enola tugs at all the loose threads, she discovers mounting evidence—a missing page from the factory books, a suspicious surge of typhus, a scandalous romance—that draws the attention of the factory’s owners, Scotland Yard, and even her brother Sherlock (Henry Cavill). It all culminates in Sarah, her sister Bessie (Serrana Su-Ling Bliss), and the other factory girls going on strike—a real-life event which grounded the movie’s events in a sense of historical context.
The Matchgirls’ strike of 1888 changed the working conditions at the Bryant & May match factory, but it was not the first of its kind. The matchgirls went on strike several times between the 1870s to 1880s, always in an attempt to...

When held up to the heady heights of its BAFTA-winning spiritual predecessor Twenty Twelve, the first series of W1A fell short on occasions.
But with a new series opener in which a high-level management power struggle starts simmering alongside the usual japes, hi-jinks and gaffes at Broadcasting House, the BBC's self-flagellating satire is at last hitting its stride.
Hugh Bonneville's still the star of the show as Ian Fletcher, keeping a sharp focus on charter renewal as his contemporaries in the Way Ahead Task Force fall over themselves (almost literally at one point) to get one over on their professional rivals. There's whispers of a new senior post at stake, and everyone seems to have their eye on it.

The new series of Endeavour maintains the tricky balance between satisfying Morse fans and drawing in new viewers...
This review contains spoilers.
2.1 Trove
Behind each of the cases solved by the young Endeavour Morse in 1960s Oxford lies a bigger mystery, one that taxes the audience’s puzzle-solving skills even as the detective remains blissfully unaware of the need to crack it. It is, of course, the enigma of Morse himself. John Thaw’s iconic portrayal of Colin Dexter’s dour, embittered yet thoroughly decent detective needs no real introduction, but Morse’s past exists for us only in outline: a broken engagement, a difficult Oxford career, an abiding resentment of the top brass who obstructed him at every turn.
Endeavour’s first series established Shaun Evans as a fine Morse, well able to capture the character’s established idiosyncrasies while making the role his own.

Due in theaters December 30, 2011 for an Oscar qualifying run, watch the United Kingdom trailer for The Iron Lady. Having the British, ”Our House” (1982) by Madness, underneath is a nice touch.
Doesn’t that give you chills? Streep is brilliant as usual (when isn’t she?) and will see another nomination. But enough of the “actress of our generation” rhetoric. A film about Thatcher – one of my heroes, now thats my cuppa tea.

The Weinsteins have released the first poster for upcoming Oscar-botherer The Iron Lady, which stars Meryl Streep as former British Prime Minster Margaret Thatcher, and promises to feature an intimate portrait of the Conservative leader, who is still the only female to have sat as head of the British government.

Anyway, here’s the poster…

For a time in the 80′s Thatcher and England were synonymous with each other. The Soviet Union knew better not to cross the United Kingdom and “The Iron Lady”.
To be released on December 16, 2011, The Iron Lady is a surprising and intimate portrait of Margaret Thatcher (Meryl Streep), the first and only female Prime Minister of The United Kingdom. One of the 20th century.s most famous and influential women, Thatcher came from nowhere to smash through barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male dominated world.

Hollywoodnews.com: It’s one of the few great unknowns in this year’s Oscar season. How will audiences (and, more important, Academy voters) take to Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady?”
Though the film skipped the fall film festival circuit, most of us assume that Streep has an excellent shot at getting into the awards race just by showing up. Playing an historical figure only helps her chances at securing a nomination. But are we putting the cart way before the horse?
We won’t know for sure until we see the film. In the meantime, an official poster beautifully marrying Streep’s visage to London’s Parliament has been posted on Yahoo Movies! We have it below.

In what looks reminiscent of when Margaret Thatcher came to power in 1979, have a look at the latest still from The Iron Lady. (via Thompson on Hollywood and DailyMail). Looking forward to a first trailer, but considering Thatcher’s accent, will Streep sound more like Julia Child (Julie And Julia) than Great Britain’s first female prime minister? I think there’s maybe a octave or two difference between these women’s voices. What do you think?

Pathé have announced that principle photography has begun on the big screen political biopic based on the life and career of Britain’s only female Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. The film, The Iron Lady, stars Meryl Streep in the historic role and to celebrate, Pathé have sent us the first official image of Streep in character!
Beginning life as a grocer’s daughter, Margaret Thatcher was one of a new wave of politicians when she became a member of Parliament in 1955. Little did people know that over the next 35 years, Margaret Thatcher, or The Iron Lady as she was known, would rise to the top of the ranks in the Conservative party, become this country’s one and only female leader, take us into war with Iraq (for the first time) and into another war with Argentina. Wow! With the mouthpiece and hair, Meryl Streep looks just like former British Prime Minister, Lady Margaret Thatcher. Uncanny resemblance.
From Pathe’:
“The prospect of exploring the swathe cut through history by this remarkable woman is a daunting and exciting challenge. I am trying to approach the role with as much zeal, fervour and attention to detail as the real Lady Thatcher possesses – I can only hope my stamina will begin to approach her own!”

Director John Madden's third feature is a satisfying period drama with top-drawer performances by Judi Dench as the recently widowed Queen Victoria and Billy Connolly as the burly Scotsman who restores her spirit.
Picked up for a July domestic release by Miramax, "Mrs. Brown" unspools in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes International Film Festival.
Set primarily in the always invigorating and cinematically potent Scottish Highlands, the English-Irish production is impeccably mounted and boasts many compelling characters, although it falls in the Merchant Ivory category of a hard-sell-to-the-masses historical romancer and has less sexual passion than Madden's 1993 adaptation of Edith Wharton's "Ethan Fromme".
In the same league as "The Lion in Winter", "Mrs. Brown" is dominated by the two leads, with Dench ("GoldenEye") delivering a superb rendering of a complex woman in a highly vulnerable situation. Dubbed the "Widow of Windsor", Queen Victoria, possibly the world's most powerful individual, hid from the public in 1861 after the death of her husband, Albert.
She left the running of the empire to other members of the monarchy and Parliament. After three years of mourning and with the government in turmoil, her private secretary (Geoffrey Palmer) summons Brown, a loyal hunting guide and servant who served Albert and is fiercely loyal to the royal family.
The idea is to cheer up the gloomy, bitter and often cranky queen with an extended stay in Balmoral, where she goes riding and hears plain, often harsh words of truth from blustery, commanding Brown. He eventually becomes her good friend, makes an enemy of the Prince of Wales (David Westhead) and pushes aside Palmer's character.
They fall in love after a fashion, but the duties of the crown beckon. Connolly ("Muppet Treasure Island") is thoroughly convincing as a caring male equal and patriotic subject who has his faults and knows it. The pair together are a delight to watch -- even if the heat generated is indirect, the chemistry is something rare in current cinema.
Antony Sher ("The Young Poisoner's Handbook") is memorable as patient, bemused Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli in the Parliament scenes, in which a faction arises bent on dissolving the monarchy unless the queen returns.
He too makes the trip to the cloudy hills and valleys for a crucial encounter with the indomitable Brown, whose pride is mighty and instincts unfailing given the queen's long subsequent reign and historic achievements.
Madden, who also directed 1993's "Golden Gate", and debut screenwriter Jeremy Brock, who wrote Madden's TV feature "The Widowmaker", don't aim too high and keep the pace brisk. One learns a few things and inwardly cheers at the great lines, but most importantly one comes to sympathize with the characters and understand the class and cultural conflicts through the richly rewarding characterizations.
Martin Childs' production design and Richard Greatrex's cinematography are exemplary given the project's low budget, while Deirdre Clancy's costumes and Lisa Westcott's hair and makeup design are major contributions. Stephen Warbeck's score is lush and stirring.
