Following Charlie Cox’s appearance as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil in his standalone Marvel series Daredevil, the actor soon turned the blind superhero into a fan-favorite character. However, following three seasons of the show, and Cox reprising his role for The Defenders, Netflix unfortunately canceled Daredevil and its other Marvel series in 2019.
Charlie Cox as Daredevil
However, as Kevin Feige had promised that Charlie Cox’s Daredevil would join the MCU, the actor made a beloved cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Following his much-appreciated cameo, as fans began asking for more Daredevil, Marvel announced their plans for an 18-episode Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again. Now, with the ongoing production of the upcoming show, Cox claimed to have one demand that will make comic book fans go gaga over it.

The Man Without Fear is getting ever nearer to his TV comeback: Marvel Studios has enlisted a new showrunner and two new directors for Daredevil: Born Again, a reboot of Netflix’s Marvel Television series Daredevil. Dario Scardapane, an alum of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan and the Marvel Television series The Punisher, is the Disney+ series’ new showrunner, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead — who went from teaming up on indie thrillers to helming episodes of Loki Season 2 — will co-direct the remaining episodes of season 1, the outlet adds. Marvel Studios announced Daredevil: Born Again in July 2022, more than three years after Netflix canceled Daredevil following a three-season run. The reboot brings Charlie Cox back to play the title character, a blind Hell’s Kitchen lawyer by day and a superhero by night, while Vincent D’Onofrio reprises his part as the villain Kingpin. Rocky Balboa (Stallone) recently retired, but his accountant landed him into some serious financial troubles. He makes the bold decision to mentor a younger boxer named Tommy (Tommy Morrison). Meanwhile, Rocky tries to improve his relationship with his son, Robert (Sage Stallone).

Rosario Dawson is walking back comments she made about rumors of Jon Bernthal‘s return as Frank Castle for a revival of The Punisher. The actress, who appeared at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo over the weekend, stirred up buzz when she mentioned a possible Punisher series return following the revival of Netflix hit Marvel’s Daredevil. In July, it was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con that Marvel would bring Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock back to screens in his own revival series Daredevil: Born Again. With that announcement, fans have been speculating what other characters from that portion of the MCU might pop up again, and apparently, Dawson believed that The Punisher was among them. A new Daredevil series is reportedly in the works at Disney+. The Marvel title which recently came to the streamer from Netflix seems to be getting a revival-reboot treatment. Rumblings of more Daredevil have been brewing for some time and hopes grew when the former Netflix title moved exclusively to Disney+. According to Variety, the project is moving forward with Covert Affairs duo Matt Corman and Chris Ord attached as writers and executive producers. When Daredevil ran on Netflix, it wasn’t considered part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it didn’t directly cross over with characters from the films. However, the series starring Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio did reference events like the Battle of New York which unfolded in Avengers. (Credit: Barry Wetcher / © Netflix / Courtesy: Everett Collection) Running from 2015 until 2018 when Netflix canceled all of its Marvel-related titles, Daredevil fans were left wanting more. The highly-anticipated “Sopranos” prequel The Many Saints Of Newark finally arrives in theaters and proves that it was worth the long wait. “The Sopranos” was the influential, award-winning television series that likely started the binge-watching phenomenon, but one of the nice things about this mobster drama is that there is no need to be a fan of the long-running series, or even to have seen a single episode, to fully enjoy this film and be drawn into its well-rounded world and thrilled by its surprise-around-every corner plot.

Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures have released a new trailer and poster for Creed II. We finally get a look at Ivan Drago!
The film, directed by Steven Caple Jr., the cast includes Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Stallone, Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, Wood Harris, Andre Ward, Florian “The Big Nasty” Munteanu, Dolph Lundgren, Russell Hornsby.
Written by Sylvester Stallone, Creed II opens in theaters Wednesday, November 21st.
As I said in my “Best of Rocky Films” post, I still by my ranking which finds Rocky IV in the number one spot.

Following the somewhat surprising success of Creed, there was little doubt that a sequel would follow, and Creed II is now only a few months away. It may be understandable, especially given where we are in the summer, but the release seems to need a push in fanfare as we head toward November 21st. The trailer is available – see below if you haven’t caught it already – but given that a wide variety of audiences fell for the first film, and Stallone stunned many when award season rolled around, you’d think the hype engine would be in full swing by now. Though it might not actually be late, pushing three months away for a major release makes me want to say that getting a couple of images is in the realm of “better late than never.” This is possibly most true because this one has some hurdles to get...

MGM and Warner Bros have released two first look images for Rocky spin-off sequel, Creed II.
The sequel sees Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) trying to balance his life. Between personal obligations and training for his next big fight, he is up against the challenge of his life. Facing an opponent with ties to his family’s past only intensifies his impending battle in the ring. Rocky Balboa is there by his side through it all and, together, Rocky and Adonis will confront their shared legacy, question what’s worth fighting for, and discover that nothing’s more important than family.
Creed II is about going back to basics to rediscover what made you a champion in the first place, and remembering that, no matter where you go, you can’t escape your history.

It’s been such a good year at the movies that I’m a little bit surprised by the degree to which I’m approaching tomorrow night’s Academy Awards ceremony with something resembling… disinterest. And again, it’s not necessarily the movies. It’s hard to remember a year when there wasn’t at least one obvious howler among the five, or now five-to-10 nominees—just by turning to random pages in Robert Osborne’s 70 Years of Oscar—The Official History of the Academy Awards I am reminded that The Turning Point, Midnight Express, Fatal Attraction and Mississippi Burning were all lauded by the Academy with Best Picture nominations. This year all eight movies nominated are, in my eyes, worthy of some measure of honor, including Room, my choice for the movie of the year. Yet I can’t remember the last time—could it have been 1991?—when I...

TV has a new superhero. Marvel’s Daredevil follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.

Everyone is talking about "Daredevil," Marvel's new Netflix series that's become a cultural touchstone since its release earlier this month. So it should come as no surprise, then, that the streaming service has picked up the show for another season.
Netflix and Marvel announced the renewal earlier this week, noting that season two should debut sometime in 2016. The series will also get new showrunners for its second go-around, with Doug Petrie ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "American Horror Story") and Marco Ramirez ("Sons of Anarchy") subbing in for Steven S. DeKnight and Drew Goddard.

Netflix, in an effort to be more inclusive of visually impaired television fans, has introduced a feature to add audio descriptions to its original programming, beginning with new Marvel series "Daredevil."
In a blog post, Tracy Wright, the director of content operations at Netflix, explained that the streaming service wanted to increase its accessibility for all viewers, and that now includes the visually impaired. Netflix's decision to begin this process with "Daredevil" is especially significant, since the show's protagonist, Matt Murdock, is blind, and the comics starring the superhero are especially popular in the visually impaired community.
"Audio description is a narration track that describes what is happening on-screen, including physical actions, facial expressions, costumes, settings and scene changes," Wright explained in her blog post. "Customers can choose audio narration just like choosing the soundtrack in a different language."
Entertainment Weekly tried out the feature, and it's quite detailed, with...

We finally have our first look at Vincent D'Onofrio as "Daredevil" villain Kingpin on the upcoming Netflix series, and the actor appears every bit as menacing as you'd hoped.
The image features D'Onofrio's bald baddie in a slick black suit and matching monochrome shirt, looking all-business as he's no doubt about to crack some skulls (check out the full photo at the end of this post). Kingpin in the alter ego of Wilson Fisk, who spars with Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) over what's best for the citys. The complete character description:
The shadowy figure behind organized crime in Hell's Kitchen, Wilson Fisk has one mission in mind: to save Hell's Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter the cost. This immediately puts him at odds with Matt Murdock's (Charlie Cox) vigilante alter-ego, who also seeks to protect the city - but sees the criminal element as the root of the city's problems.

The Mysteries of Laura Review
The aftermath of a long-running show isn’t an impossible hurdle to overcome, but it’s a tricky one, and Debra Messing is about due for another success.
Unfortunately, the best case scenario for The Mysteries of Laura involves a large enough demographic that is looking for a mix of soap opera and crime drama that leans heavily into the guilty pleasure realm. That might not actually give a fair account of the show, especially because a certain number of series that are on the air now, and doing quite well, could be thought to fall into that realm themselves. The Mysteries of Laura demands we go further than we’re used to, even in thinking of a television show as being a certain kind of ridiculous, and in this case what we’re looking for is akin to Scooby Doo showing up in a modern-setting romance novel.

First, let’s get something straight. If you choose to see a movie called The Other Woman, you should go into it understanding what it’s about – yes, the dreaded “other woman.” Ladies and gentlemen, you’re going to see a film that flaunts the raw force of a group of women suckered by the same damn guy. You’ll be celebrating the spirit of sisterhood. But you shouldn’t expect a sincerely feminist cinematic masterpiece. This isn’t that movie. Rather, the unpretentious hilarity Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann ooze throughout the film showcase an undeniable charisma that will leave you entertained.
In this case, the (first) other woman is Carly Whitten (played by Cameron Diaz). Your stereotypical bad girl with a heart of steel, Carly is a wildly successful lawyer strutting around in sleek black suits and slicked black hair. But the wife, Kate King (Leslie Mann), is the one we gravitate toward.

A rundown of the latest Blu-Ray New Releases isn’t something we do here very often, but once in a while you get a very strange week (or two) in the home market, especially when you consider it coinciding with other events in the world.
The early part of September this year isn’t just back-to-school, or the time to prepare for the new fall season of TV, it’s apparently the time when we’re hoping you’re in the market to own some new Blu-Rays.
I suppose back-to-school, as a time of year, has some sell to it already – something to stuff in dorm boxes, and/or the kids are finally busy again, I have a minute to watch something – but, there’s a lot showing up this year, and the battle for your attention is going to be a big one. Get your Amazon gift cards at the ready,...

James Gandolfini movies James Gandolfini died today of a suspected heart attack while in Rome, Italy. Although the 51-year-old actor’s fame rests on his role as mob boss Tony Soprano in the hit HBO series The Sopranos, which earned him three Emmy Awards, three SAG Awards, and one Golden Globe, Gandolfini was also featured in dozens of big-screen productions. Most notable among James Gandolfini’s movie are the following: Joel Coen and Ethan Coen’s The Man Who Wasn’t There (2001), in which Gandolfini plays Big Dave Brewster, a boisterous department store owner who may be having an affair with Billy Bob Thornton’s wife, Frances McDormand, and who’s being (anonymously) blackmailed by Thornton himself. Steven Zaillian’s remake of All the King’s Men (2006), starring Sean Penn as a populist Southern politician, with Gandolfini as fellow ruthless politician Tiny Duffy, demoted to Lieutenant Governor. Armando Iannucci’s...

This week we had to catch up a bit, something that may be common until we hit the height of summer, and we reviewed both Epic and Now You See Me.
On the review side of things, these were both tricky films, though Shane might have had an easier time with Now You See Me than I did. They’re tough, because they warrant recommendation, they just don’t quite get to that next level. I’m not even sure they’re after that next level, and if they aren’t, that leads to more questions.
Both films are fun and entertaining, and if you can let them be, you won’t feel disappointed. The problem is that they have their flaws, and don’t do anything interesting enough to overcome them.
Epic at least has the fact that it will win over the kids, and probably the main thing...

Four talented magicians mesmerize an international audience with a series of bold and original heists, all the while pursuing a hidden agenda that has the FBI and Interpol scrambling to anticipate their next move in Now You See Me, a visually spectacular blend of astonishing illusions and exhilarating action from director Louis Leterrier (Clash of the Titans).
The Four Horsemen, a magic super‐group led by the charismatic J.Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg), perform a pair of hightech, high‐profile magic shows, first amazing audiences by remotely robbing a Paris bank while in Las Vegas, and then exposing a white‐collar criminal and funneling his millions into the audience members’ bank accounts, baffling the authorities with their intricately planned capers.
FBI Special Agent Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo) is determined to make the magicians pay for their crimes—and to stop them before they pull off what promises to be an even more audacious heist.

Chicago – It can be argued that Meryl Streep is in the most fruitful period in her long and illustrious career, at least as far as the variety of character parts she has undertaken. She co-stars in “Hope Springs” with Tommy Lee Jones, as a mousy Omaha wife who is looking for a change in her marriage.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Streep does an artful balancing act in the film, because she does love her husband, but is desperate to make a change in how they meander into their 31st anniversary. She again is the most notable performance, playing a generally shy woman who is risking a lot to assert herself. The story is a bit choppy and cloying at times, and unfortunately relies on a star system predictability, but still manages to entertain simply through the performances of the two strong lead actors.
Kay (Meryl Streep) has a routine in her Omaha, Nebraska household.

Chicago – There are many problems inherent in film remakes, starting with comparisons to the original source. The first “Arthur,” while not a classic, did have a warm, funny story and Dudley Moore’s title performance. The current remake has none of that.
Rating: 2.0/5.0
Russell Brand is Arthur Bach, the (now) billionaire alcoholic playboy, and the odd casting was obviously designed to capitalize on the Brand character, the befuddled party boy displayed in recent films like “Get Him to the Greek.” Brand practically sweats blood trying to get something, anything out of the weak script and not only fails Arthur Bach, but starts to annoy virtually immediately.
The structure of the 1981 original remains intact. Arthur is New York City’s most notorious rich drunk, spending his time on having fun, which in this interpretation includes bizarre rituals like dressing up as Batman, with his chauffeur Bitterman (Luis Guzmán) as a fat Robin.

For some people, the idea of meeting and hanging out with a hapless, immature and perpetually drunk billionaire sounds like a great time. For others, not so much. Such is the case with the leading ladies of "Arthur," in which Russell Brand stars as the aforementioned reckless billionaire, with Helen Mirren playing his very patient nanny, Hobson, and Greta Gerwig his love interest, Naomi.

Remakes, despite their intention to make old material relevant to new audiences, are often treated as little more than exercises in spot-the-differences by fans and critics. Sometimes the remakes are spot-on and universally appealing; sometimes they take recent material and spin it for a new audience (e.g., “Death at a Funeral”); and sometimes they are released again because their theme becomes relevant again.
In the case of “Arthur,” 2011 seems like odd timing to release a film whose man-boy-prince main character seems more at home in the excesses of the original film’s 1980s than the strain of the recession-prone 2010s. With that said, the idea that money can’t buy you happiness, which, at the end of the day is the message of this Jason Winer-helmed romp,...

With “Black Swan” still swimming in theaters on the currents of five Oscar nominations, including best actress, and on the heels of “No Strings Attached,” Natalie Portman is back on the big screen with yet another diverse role in this family drama based on Ayelet Waldman’s novel “Love and Other Impossible Pursuits.” The movie, written and directed by Don Roos, demonstrates the Oscar-nominated actress’ range: Here she plays a young professional-turned-housewife with a withering wit — a far cry from the timid, tortured dancer Nina Sayers in “Black Swan.” But the film leans too heavily on her bad behavior, ignoring the growth the character does experience in a schizophrenic third act.
