This story about director Peter Hoar and “The Last of Us” first ran in the Drama Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
For pure emotional punch this past TV season, one need look no further than “Long, Long Time,” the third episode of HBO’s “The Last of Us.” Detouring from the main journey of a lone man and the fungus-resistant young woman under his care (Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey) navigating zombie-strewn roads, the series settled down for a decades-spanning romance between two older men, Bill and Frank (played unforgettably by Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett), that resonated with its universality and refusal to reduce the duo to dreary stereotypes. If your heart didn’t break watching these men make peace with their life decisions through the unsteady ages, you simply do not and never did have one beating in your chest.

This year, Super Bowl fans can drink to more than just their favorite team.
Water.org, a charity started by Matt Damon and engineer Gary White in 2009, has partnered with beer company Stella Artois to help end the global water crisis.
“If just one percent of viewers watching the Super Bowl this year purchased a Chalice, we could help provide access to clean water for up to one million people in need,” said Damon at a New York City press conference.
Now with a purchase of a 12-pack, consumers will provide someone in the developing world with one year of clean water.

The Gearbox-developed shooter will burst out into the world like so much tiny little razor-toothed alien on February 12th, 2013.
Drifting like so many derelict spaceships out of its 2012 berth into next year, the Sega-published game is yet another title that has said goodbye to the 2012 release window. According to the releases, the date for the Wii U version will be announced at some point in the future.
The game, which takes place on the U.S.S. Sulaco, places players in the role of the one of the titular Marines as they respond to the seemingly abandoned ship which made its first appearance in Aliens. According to Sega Marketing VP Gary White, Colonial Marines is in "its final stretch of development, so presumably this should be the final shift in date for the game.

Matt Damon gave George W. Bush some major props for his foreign aid efforts in a recent interview with the Atlantic.
Reporter Jeffrey Goldberg pointed out that Bush increased funding for AIDS relief through Pepfar, the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.
What ensues is a conversation that's more awesome than it is awkward:
MD: I would kiss George W. Bush on the mouth for what he did on Pepfar.
Jg: How long would you kiss him?
MD: Three seconds. No tongue.
Damon, who was being interviewed along with his Water.org co-founder, Gary White, goes on to point out that Obama should create a Pepfar for water and sanitation. Damon concedes, however, that if Obama were to allocate money to Africa, he'd encounter backlash given the state of the economy.
"It's a different world now than it was when Bush was President," Damon tells the Atlantic.

The Time 100 list always fascinates me, the whos and whys of the list never failing to hold my interest. First point of reference though is, okay, who from our world of film made it… James Cameron? Morgan Spurlock? Johnny Depp? Who???
For those of you who are similarly inclined, here are the folk from film on this year’s list, do you agree with their inclusion???
Amy Poehler – although known primarily for her work on “Saturday Night Live” and “Parks and Recreation,” she is, of course, a familiar face on film. “Baby Mama,” “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” “Blades of Glory” and “Mean Girls” come most easily to mind.
Geoffrey Canada – not quite a known entity in film, this incredible educator is featured heavily in a film of which we’re fans, Davis Guggenheim’s documentary “Waiting for ‘Superman.

Heroes star Masi Oka is getting his own movie. THR reports that Transformers writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are producing a family adventure movie called The Defenders based on an idea from Oka. Gary White is writing the script and Suburbia director D.J. Caruso may direct. Apparently Oka came up with the idea while playing World of Warcraft. Yes folks, he really is a big lovable nerd. That Orc you just killed could be Hiro researching a new movie project. The Defenders will be about teens playing a massively multiplayer online video game in different parts of the world, hidden behind their avatars. Somehow, events force them away from their computers to come together for a real adventure. It's unclear whether Masi Oka will actually be in the movie, I guess he's a little old to play a teenager, but he will executive produce the project.
