Tributes are pouring in for Bill Turnbull after it was announced that the veteran broadcaster had died from prostate cancer on Wednesday (31 August).
The former BBC Breakfast presenter’s family confirmed on Thursday (1 September) that Turnbull had “passed away peacefully at his home” after being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2017.
Piers Morgan honoured Turnbull as “one of the best broadcasters in Britain” in a tribute posted on Twitter.
His tweet read: “Rip Bill Turnbull, 66. One of the best broadcasters in Britain, and such a smart, funny, warm & generous-spirited man.
“Fought his illness with typical stoicism, courage and humour. Bill made presenting live TV look so effortless, which was his great talent. Such sad news.”
Turnbull was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2017, and had taken a leave of absence from his radio show Classic FM to focus on his health in October last year. However, he returned to the show last month.

Susanna Reid may not become the main host of 'BBC Breakfast'. The 40-year-old presenter had been expected to take over as the popular daytime programme's female anchor after Sian Williams decided not to stay with the show when it moves to the BBC's new offices in Salford Quays, but programme editor Alison Ford is planning to recruit new hosts, though it is not yet decided what role they will play. A spokesperson told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "She doesn't want to have her hands tied at this early stage. She wants time to think. "There will be a new female presenter...

Sian Williams and Chris Hollins will leave BBC Breakfast when the show moves to Salford in 2012, reports have confirmed. Following recent reports speculating that neither Williams nor Hollins would relocate to Salford, the BBC has revealed that 54% of staff working on the BBC One morning show will not take part in the move to MediaCity UK. Williams said in a statement: "Sadly, family reasons mean I can't move to Salford with the programme next year. "My son will be in the middle of A-level exams, another will have just started school and our family also needs to be close to elderly parents in the south-east." Sports presenter Chris Hollins has also declined to make the move north for family reasons. However, the BBC confirmed (more)...

BBC Breakfast presenter Sian Williams will reportedly quit the programme instead of relocating to the show's new base at Salford Quays. Williams had previously admitted that she still had to decide her future on the morning magazine show ahead of its move North next year. The Mirror claims that Susanna Reid is now being lined up to replace the 46-year-old as the main female host. "She'd jump at the chance," a source said. "Susanna loves the BBC and this is her dream job." However, the paper suggests that WIlliams could help smooth the programme's transition by commuting north for a period of time. Harrison Ford as Adrian Chiles? Fictional and real breakfast shows share a lot more than a name
Actors discussing their new movies are a frequent item on breakfast TV, but the main UK rivals for the sleepy-eyed audience will both have suffered discomfort at the prospect of covering the latest Harrison Ford movie, released here on Friday. Morning Glory features Ford as Mike Pomeroy, a granite-haired, gravel-larynxed American news anchor who, as a result of a contractual dispute with his network, is forced to become co-host of a viewer-abandoned and critically trashed breakfast TV show at risk of being pulled from the schedules.
Unfortunately the crappy format goes under the name Daybreak, for which reason Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley were happy on this occasion to cede the big film-star interview to their BBC1 rivals, and clear ratings-winners, Bill Turnbull and Sian Williams.
Revealingly, both the Hollywood script about the fictional Daybreak,...

The presenter, who appears with Bill Turnbull as the regular hosting team on the morning magazine programme, said that switching location to the North in Easter 2012 could force her to reconsider her role on the show. Williams told The Mail on Sunday: "I haven't made a decision yet. It's a very personal thing for each of us on the programme. "We've got until the end of March to decide and I need to sit down with my family and talk it through." The 46-year-old (more)...

Speaking to the BBC magazine Ariel, she said: "If I had no ties, it would be a much easier decision to make... There are lots of people to consult before I make up my mind." Sian Williams has threatened to appear on air nude. The BBC newsreader is angry that she is not allowed to claim tax relief on her work clothes, the Daily Mail reports. She reportedly said that she would be happy to "read the news naked" and explained that she is forced to spend £4,500 a year on her appearance because of her job. Williams has allegedly been fighting Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs for five years over the issue, but the organisation has denied her claims because it is "impossible to divide the business and private benefit of such expenditure". However, Williams said that wearing the same outfits could mean she loses her job and added that the money she spends on her appearance - including £975 on haircare, £3,200 on clothing and £325 on laundry - should qualify for tax relief. Her representative said: "It is part (more)...

The 38-year-old journalist, who is about to return to the studio to cover Sian Williams's maternity leave on BBC One's Breakfast Time, said that she has started thinking about having children for the first time. She told the Mail on Sunday: "Although I love the idea of being a mum and being there for my children as my mum was for me, I suppose I felt for a long time that I couldn't quite have it all with the career as well."
