The internet found heroes in Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday as Donald Trump agreed to the leading Democrats’ plea for a three-month extension of the debt ceiling and government funding through Dec. 15.
The hashtag #ChuckandNancy was trending on Twitter following the news, but particular interest was paid to a photo of Trump and Senate Democratic Leader Schumer locked in a smiling, semi-embrace during a meeting about the debt ceiling, government shutdown and disaster relief aid for victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Here we go again. Entertainment Weekly just announced that Marvel and Netflix have found their Iron Fist. Finn Jones (Game of Thrones) has been tapped to play Danny Rand in the upcoming series Iron Fist. I enjoy Jones’ take on Loras Tyrell but I’d be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed by this choice. Disappointed, but not surprised. Marvel has made a stab at diversified casting when it comes to black characters — including changing Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Heimdall (Idris Elba), and Baron Mordo’s (Chiwetel Ejiofor) race, adding Falcon to the line-up and the introduction of Luke Cage. They’ve even made attempts to include Latino culture with Luis (Michael Peña) and Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson). But for some reason, they keep fumbling at the one-yard line when it comes to representation of Asian cultures. We have Skye (Chloe Bennet), Agent May (Ming-Na Wen) and Madame...

And here we thought the potato salad campaign was strange. A recent college graduate from Seattle has created a Kickstarter campaign in hopes of raising enough money to create "the world's biggest dick drawing." (We wish we were joking, but this is real life.) Creatively titled, "#Dickstarter," Alex Wong is asking for a mere $100 and has reached half of his goal so far. But why even go through such lengths for a big penis painting? "It's everyone's dream to see a huge dick drawing. For scientific purposes or otherwise," Wong states. "I just graduated college and I have no job. Let's bring it back to the goals of my youth. I want to make the world's biggest...

"This was a global tragedy," President Barack Obama said during a press conference on Friday, referring to the shooting down of a Malaysia Airlines plane over Ukraine. While some details are still unclear, it's believed that a surface-to-air missile took down the jet, and 298 passengers were killed. The president revealed that there was "at least" one American citizen aboard the plane, Quinn Lucas Shanzmen, and he said that "evidence indicates that the plane was shot down" by pro-Russian rebels. Obama also called for an immediate cease-fire in Ukraine, noting, "There has to be a credible, international investigation." As for American involvement, Obama said, "The United States will continue to lead efforts within the world community to de-escalate the situation." Watch the full address below for more details. At midnight on Saturday, March 29, England took a step forward in the fight for civil rights and began to legally recognize same-sex marriages. England approved the law to legalize same-sex marriage last year, and Brazil and Scotland have since followed suit, bringing the total count of countries that recognize same-sex marriage to 17. Many couples were already prepared - saying their vows just moments after the clock struck 12 - and scores of weddings continued throughout the day. Photos from the day captured the sheer, unbridled joy of the moment; it's a moment we've seen before and, hopefully, one we'll see again. We've already shown you plenty of gorgeous real weddings from all over the Us. Keep scrolling to look back at the first day of legal same-sex weddings in countries all over the world. TV makes me cry disproportionately more than real-life, so I was a little confused when the camera panned to tear-stained Lady Gaga after Marko’s performance last night, and I sat there with dry eyes. Don’t get me wrong. His performance was gorgeous and very touching, but tear-worthy? I’m not so sure.
I’m sure the song — Jeff Buckley’s “I Know It’s Over” — played a major part in the weeping effect the piece had on The Gaga. It’s a hauntingly lovely tune that was a perfect fit for the message of the dance. But is my heart going cold?...

President Obama's anti-bullying campaign has garnered another ally. MTV announced on Thursday (March 10) at the White House Conference on Bullying Prevention that it will air an original TV-movie based on the true story of bully-victim Abraham Biggs.
MTV joins Britney Spears, who tweeted on Wednesday that she would also be joining forces with the president and Michelle Obama in their efforts to prevent bullying.
The new movie, which has yet to be titled, will revolve around the lives of four teens whose paths cross unexpectedly on one eventful night. The film takes its inspiration from the story of Abraham Biggs, a 19-year-old Florida college student who suffered from bipolar disorder.
In November 2008, Biggs wrote on an online bodybuilding forum that he planned to take his own life,...

David Broder on Meet the Press, 2005. Credit: Alex Wong/Getty Images. It is not too much to say that the death of The Washington Post’s David Broder—at 81, after a long battle with diabetes—means the end of an era in political journalism and, in a larger sense, in American life. That is a cliché that David—with his passionate centrism, meticulous attention to detail, endless patience for probing the subtleties of public opinion, and determination to popularize the findings of scholarly political scientists—would undoubtedly have deplored as hype. But it seems the only reasonable thing to say all the same.

Photograph by Alex Wong/Getty Images. Photo Illustration by Juli Weiner. The Egyptian state-run newspaper Al-Ahram made quite the Photoshop gaffe this week when it altered a photograph of Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak and Barack Obama. The original image depicts a suit-wearing swarm of Obama, Mubarak, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, and an unidentified man walking in a V-formation, like jowly, prematurely gray seagulls. Obama appears at the front of the flock, with Mubarak behind him. However, in a version of the photo that graced the pages of Al-Ahram, it’s Mubarak who’s leading the group and Obama’s who’s following suit, as it were. “I think what's significant is that Al-Ahram, the regime’s mouthpiece, is clearly very sensitive about the way Mubarak appears to the general public in the current climate,” Egyptian blogger Wael Khalil told The Guardian. Americans, though, and Democrats in particular,...

Last night we saw some incredible performances (I'm talking to you, Adechike Torbert) and some not so incredible performances (cape or no cape, it's time for Jose Ruiz to go home.) Tonight we'll find out who will be joining Billy Bell and his injured knee in the Bottom 3. Will Billy be saying goodbye just like Alex Wong and Ashley Galvan? It's shaping up to be a pretty dangerous season of "So You Think You Can Dance." On the July 22 top 5 performance show, judge and producer Nigel Lythgoe announced that contemporary dancer Billy Bell wouldn't be performing -- making that the third week in a row where a contestant was unable to take the stage.
The 20-year-old dancer hurt his knee during rehearsals this week, and though multiple doctors told him he'd be able to perform if he felt up to it, he didn't feel up to it.
Bell automatically falls into the bottom three and if he's still not fit enough to dance by the results show, he'll automatically be sent packing, much like Alex Wong and Ashley Galvan. Both contestants left the series after doctors told them their recovery times would last longer than a month. Bell's situation doesn't seem quite as dire.
Still, nobody knows what's going on -- including the judges.

The So You Think You Dance bell is tolling for Billy. With Ashley Galvan's season-ending injury tonight, bottom-three benchwarmer Billy Bell's life on the show was spared by default. What is wrong with you, American voters? Why are you hating on Billy—a critical favorite? And why are the dancers dropping like flies? Here's what the latest victim, Ashley, and the judges told us after tonight's results show... Unlike Alex Wong's predictable exit (sob!) last week after lacerating his Achilles, Ashley's "rib bruise" seemed minor enough to guarantee she'd be moving on—maintaining a semblance of gender equity among the remaining testosterone-heavy crew. So our...

(S07E13) If you were expecting an update at the top of the show on Alex Wong's possibly game-changing injury, we didn't get one until it was time for the judges to cut him -- or a different dancer -- at the very end of the episode.
Instead, the show kicked off with a rather static angelic-themed group number choreographed by Mia Michaels that made me miss Sonya Tayeh's more dynamic numbers.
Next, the judges celebrated their Emmy nominations, announced yesterday morning. The show received three nominations, including one for Mia's choreography and Adam Shankman's production of the Oscars set a record for Emmy nominations. (In case you weren't aware, yes, awards shows reward other awards shows.)
Tonight's guest performances included Natasha Bedingfield singing her new song 'Touch,' and the cast of 'In the Heights' doing '96,000.'

Ugh, how heartbroken am I that Alex Wong is injured and may have torn his Achilles tendon? If he's out permanently I'm going to be very upset; he was the main reason I'm so into the show this season. I guess we'll find out tonight... I'm also surprised Nigel basically kind of chastised audiences for putting Robert in the bottom three last week. I understand Nigel was only trying to tell people Robert's not arrogant, as his internet research has led him to believe is the reason people aren't voting for him. I've never thought he was arrogant but more that his movement just doesn't have the expansiveness and breadth of other Contemporary dancers. But people don't like being told what to think and I think Nigel may have made it more difficult for Robert. Anyway, my favorite performance of the night...

So, this week, they had the first same-sex routine (not the first ever, but the first pre-finals) -- and it turned out to be an excellent one -- a hip hop Alex Wong danced with Twitch, and they also allowed the contestants to talk a bit about their inspirations for starting their dance careers, which I thought was nice. First on: Adechicke and Lauren dancing a hip hop choreographed by Dave Scott. First, Adechicke says he's inspired by Desmond Richardson, which excited me greatly because I love that man! Says he liked him because he's manly, nothing feminine about him, not to mention an excellent dancer. The routine: I thought it was pretty good. Adechicke doesn't completely blow me away for some reason (Lauren didn't either though), but I thought his form was excellent, he was really fun, had a...

Really, So You Think You Can Dance? We're big fans and all, for many seasons now, and you look even more amazing in HD (we just upgraded after all these years).
But there was no competition last night, nor did we even get to see what the Top 11 or the All-Stars are really all about - if you missed it, you officially missed nada.
This was like a preseason game after the first three weeks of the regular season. What's the point? Why not jump right into the competition and elimination rounds?
We appreciated the truncated audition rounds, but Thursday was pure filler, no way around it, with random routines and the dancing groups arbitrarily grouped at that.
There were plenty of memorable moves, to be sure, but it was hard to even know who to watch sometimes. If this were the post-show tour, it would've worked more.

On June 10, "So You Think You Can Dance" choreographer Mia Michaels gave us the first tearjerker of Season 7 with the contemporary performance of "This Bitter Earth" by Max Richter and "On the Nature of Daylight" by Dinah Washington. We got the shivers just watching the dancers' portrayal of a man going through the stages of his life.
Michaels was noticeably absent from the show last season. "First of all, I have to say, It's so good to be back!" she says. According to Michaels, it has been "a gift" to work with the Season 7 Top 11.
In explaining her piece, Michaels tells Cat Deeley, "For me right now, time is a very heightened thing in my life, and the journey of life from being a child to a man in his prime to an old man who can hardly walk -- as older dancers start to feel -- it's just a...

Just five episodes into the season and the auditions/callbacks portion is already complete. Last night we learned which 10 (11?) dancers will be making it to the So You Think You Can Dance finals, and the accelerated format pushed the drama and tension to new heights.
Compounding the stress for contestants and viewers is the simple fact that this season, there are also fewer spots. The finalists will be paired with all-stars, which will up the quality of the performances, but leave a bunch of worthy, first-timer hopefuls out in the cold.
But the cream rises to the top, as they say, and last night was no exception as the finalists - as predicted by our So You Think You Can Dance spoilers - were revealed.
On the second day of Las Vegas callbacks, "only" 58 dancers remained. The Broadway portion of the rigorous day shellacked a bunch of pretenders out of the running.

This season's Top 11 dancers on So You Think You Can Dance have been named. The format of the Fox competition’s seventh season had been altered so that only ten finalists went to Los Angeles, rather than the usual 20 dancers. As previously hinted, there are 11 instead of 10 dancers who qualify to the semi-final round of "So You Think You Can Dance" this season. Head judge Nigel Lythgoe previously told Zap2It that only one between Alex Wong and Billy Bell would make it but it turns out that both are qualified to dance in front of live audience.
However, the final showdown was not between Alex and Billy but it was Billy against Robert Roldan in the last spot. Joining them are fellow contemporary dancers Ade Chike Torbert and Kent Boyd, in addition to Alex and Jose "Full Deck" Ruiz.
The girls are more variable in terms of their dancing genre. They are salsa dancer Cristina Santana, tap dancer Melinda Sullivan, jazz dancer Alexie Agdeppa, contemporary dancer Lauren Froderman and lyrical dancer Ashley Galvan.

Last night, Dallas and Nashville dancers vied for tickets to Las Vegas, which comprised the latter portion of the episode. Dallas definitely produced the stronger crop of the two.
In fact, only seven made it out of Tennessee. Weak, Nashville. Fortunately, there was quality move-busting in Texas and Vegas. Specifically, from a couple of familiar faces:
Billy Bell, who dropped out from Season 6 after being diagnosed with mono Alex Wong, who dropped out of Season 5 because of a contract situation
Both were back and better than ever.
Raw Talent: Eat your heart out, Dancing with the Stars.
In Vegas week, the first day was devoted to hip-hop, where a couple of early favorites this season were nixed. The second day...

Thursday night's (June 3) episode of "So You Think You Can Dance" saw the show hold its final auditions for this season in Dallas and Nashville. While a little southern flair is typically welcome, the two cities both turned out to be rather disappointing with only a handful of memorable performances (and a mere seven dancers from Nashville making it to Vegas). The producers didn't even show the choreography round from Nashville, proving that Tennessee's finest just didn't cut it.
But the few who did shine really knocked it out of the park. The most impressive of the night were Ida Saki and Nicole Knudson (nicknamed "Marge Simpson" because of her hair), both of whom came from the Dallas auditions. The judges praised the two, with Ida being "absolutely exquisite" and Nicole's talent only coming "every hundred years" (to be fair, that was an overstatement).

Just as the American Idol finalists become known ahead of time, the list of the Top 10 dancers for this season of So You Think You Can Dance has somehow leaked online.
As you probably know, previous years had the Top 20, but this season, only 10 make the finals, where they will be paired with former So You Think You Can Dance stars.
It's a Dancing with the Stars-style twist we can get behind, given some of the memorable standouts they've brought back, and the subsequently shorter audition rounds.
The list of finalists, first obtained by SYTYCDism.com, seems legit. We'll hold off until the jump before dropping any names, but we will reveal the following teasers here ...
There are 11, not 10, dancers who make the finals, according to sources. We met at least one last night at the L.A. auditions (not a huge surprise). Nigel Lythgoe's tease that Billy Bell...

"So You Think You Can Dance" has only begun airing its first episode but a spoiler of who will make it to the Top 10 has come out. As previously reported, the dancing competition has changed its format, no longer featuring 20 finalists but only 10 who will be paired with previous seasons' dancers picked through online poll.
"When they're on the stage with these contestants, the contestants are either going to have to step way up - which is going to be great for them - or the all-star could wind up carrying them," Mia Michaels says about the format change. "Or it could be the other way. I don't think so because the all-stars are so comfortable. It's going to be interesting to see how it plays out."
Head judge Nigel Lythgoe had previously teased that either contemporary dancer Billy Bell or ballet dancer Alex Wong would advance to the Top 10 but not both.

The list of the Top 10 contenders for "So You Think You Can Dance" Season 7 has been leaked on the web.
[Spoiler Alert: Do not read any further if you do not wish to know the potential list.]
If you've been following judge Nigel Lythgoe's tweets, you'll know there is a new format this year -- a Top 10 instead of a Top 20 and the dancers will partner with former "Sytycd" contestants.
Nigel also spilled to Zap2it that either Billy Bell or Alex Wong would make the Top 10 -- but not both. However, it looks like Nigel was being a little cheeky.
They both make the Top 11. Not Top 10. The Top 11, via SYTYCDism:
Girls:
1. Cristina Santana (salsa)
2. Melinda Sullivan (tap)
3. Alexie Agdeppa (jazz)
4. Lauren Froderman (contemporary)
5. Ashley Galvan (lyrical)
Boys:
1. Jose "Full Deck" Ruiz (breaking)
2. Billy Bell (contemporary)
3. Alex Wong (ballet)
4. Kent Boyd (contemporary)
5. Robert Roldan (contemporary)
6. Adé Chiké Torbert (contemproary)
What do you think, "Sytycd" fans? Annoyed that Nigel pulled a fast one on us?

Korbi TV loves us some Nigel Lythgoe, not going to lie.
The "So You Think You Can Dance" show creator and judge hit the red carpet at Thursday's (May 28) Season 7 premiere and, as you'll see in the video below, it didn't take him long to start talking about the high level of dancers the show has selected this year.
"Whoever wins this season may turn out to be the best dancer we've ever had across all seven seasons."
And, of course, there are many reasons for that. For the first time in the series' history, the Top 10 contestants will partnering with an "all-star" who is already skilled in the style of dance they have to tackle each week, so the bar will be raised and the performances perhaps better.
And, because there will only be ten finalists, as opposed to the usual 20, the pool has already been narrowed down to...

As we were glued to our TV screens, trying not to cry over Teddy Tedholm last night, Nigel Lythgoe was celebrating So You Think You Can Dance's Season 7 premiere in La.
As Nigel strolled down the red carpet he stopped and chatted with Korbi from Zap2It and broke the bad news: with only 10 finalists this season amazing dancers are going to get cut.
Of course we knew that, it happens every season, but then Nigel drove the knife in a little deeper with details: either Billy Bell or Alex Wong will be cut. Nooooooo! (Oh I'm sorry, did I just scream that out loud?)...

Billy Bell, the talented contemporary dancer who had to drop out of "So You Think You Can Dance's" Season 6 Top 20 due to illness last fall, is in Vegas for Season 7 final auditions, my friends.
He performed for the judges this morning and Brandon Dumlao, who stepped in at the last second for a short-lived stint filling Bell's spot during Season 6, is here as well.
Dumlao just left the stage and, though I can't really talk about any of the contestants' individual performances, I'll just say that it's very clear why Dumlao was the judges' first choice alternate last year. We didn't get to see much of him on the show last season, as he was at a disadvantage jumping into the competition at a moment's notice, but I do hope he'll get a solid shot this summer.
Also spotted here in Vegas -- and standing out on the stage -- is Alex Wong,...

'The gay community has been the most loyal and wonderful support of not only my career, but as friends to me my entire life,' Gaga says.

Lady Gaga has long been an outspoken supporter of the Lgbt community, proudly discussing her own bisexuality and accepting her Best New Artist Vma with the pronouncement, "It's for God and for the gays." This weekend in Washington, D.C., the pop star shared the stage with President Obama at a Human Rights Campaign event on Saturday night and took part in Sunday's National Equality March.
Her reasons for taking such an active role in the fight for gay rights, Gaga explained, stretch back to childhood. "All my friends growing up were gay, and tonight was a very, very special moment for all of us,...

A day after he unexpectedly won the Nobel Peace Prize, President Barack Obama was still just an opening act for a pop star. At the Human Rights Campaign dinner on Saturday night in Washington, D.C., the president joked, "It's privilege to be here tonight to open for Lady Gaga. ... I've made it."
The quip came not long after Obama promised in his speech to the nation's largest gay-rights group to end the ban on gays serving openly in the U.S. military. He also said that he's urged Congress to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and pass the Domestic Partners Benefit and Obligations Act. "My commitment to you is unwavering,...

The criticism of Kanye West has rained down since the rapper snatched the microphone from Taylor Swift at the VMAs on Sunday night and interrupted her acceptance speech for Best Female Video. From fellow musicians to fans and even Donald Trump, the stage bum-rush has been almost universally panned. And now, even President Barack Obama — whom West supported during last year's presidential election campaign — has reportedly weighed in.
While speaking to CNBC on Monday (September 14), Obama reportedly referred to West as a "jackass" in an off-the-record conversation, according to reports based on a tweet from ABC reporter Terry Moran that has since been deleted.
"Pres. Obama just called Kanye West a 'jackass' for his outburst at VMAs when Taylor Swift won. Now That's presidential,...
