Israel’s Tadmor Entertainment has renewed its first-look production pact with MGM Television. The Tel Aviv-based company has rebranded itself as Sipur and has recruited a clutch of new investors and advisors including former CBS Entertainment chief Nancy Tellem.
The company aims to expand the scope of its production and distribution activities with the capital influx from such investors as Israel banking giant HaPoalim and insurance and pension fund firm Clal Insurance. The goal is to take advantage of Israel’s booming media sector to produce high-end original scripted and documentary projects as well as to tap into the demand for formats and finished episodes from traditional TV buyers who have seen the pipeline of content from the U.S. majors shrink in recent years.
Tadmor Entertainment’s transition is being steered by CEO Emilio Schenker, a writer-producer who joined the company in 2019. Tadmor was founded four years earlier by its namesake,...

The BBC have commissioned “Two Daughters,” a documentary fronted by Stacey Dooley about the murders of Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman.
The two women were reported missing on June 6, 2020 after they went to celebrate Bibaa’s birthday in a park. Their bodies were found the following day by Nicole’s boyfriend.
Their mother, Mina Smallman (pictured above), was Britain’s first Black Archdeacon and she has now invited Dooley to make a documentary exploring not only the women’s brutal murders and their aftermath, which saw two police officers charged after they shared photographs of Bibaa and Nicole’s bodies online, but also what happens when faith is confronted by unimaginable tragedy.
The documentary will follow the trials of not only the women’s murderer but also the officers, who were charged with misconduct in a public office. It will also examine about how Bibaa and Nicole’s story was...

Hero Doctor Who Was Shot While Stopping an Attack on Woman Speaks Out: ‘I’d Do the Same Thing Again’
When Peter Gold saw a man dragging a woman by the hair toward his vehicle around 4 a.m. on Nov. 20, 2015, in New Orleans, he didn’t think. He just reacted.
“I said to myself, ‘This isn’t right,’ ” Gold, 27, tells People, speaking out Tuesday for the first time about the incident.
“The next thing I knew I was out of the car and yelling at the guy, ‘Leave this girl alone! Get away from her!’ ” Gold recalls.
The man, later identified as Euric Cain, turned to Gold and demanded money, he says.

Murray, speaking this morning to Jian Ghomeshi on CBC Radio's Q from Florida, said she was "shocked and saddened" by the news of MacNeil's death last night but praised her for her songs and talent.

Canadian country-folk singer Stompin' Tom Connors, whose toe-tapping musical spirit and fierce patriotism established him as one of Canada's biggest cultural icons, has died, his promoter said Wednesday night. He was 77.
Connors passed away from natural causes at his home Wednesday evening, Brian Edwards said. The musician, rarely seen without his signature black cowboy hat and stomping cowboy boots, was best known for songs "Sudbury Saturday Night," ''Bud the Spud" and especially "The Hockey Song," a fan favourite played at hockey arenas around North America.
Those three songs are played at every Toronto Maple Leafs home game. At Toronto's Air Canada Centre Wednesday night, many fans took to their feet as "The Hockey Song" was played after Connors' death was announced.
Although wide commercial appeal eluded Connors for much of his four-decade career, his songs are regarded as veritable national anthems thanks to their unabashed embrace of all things Canadiana.

While the future of the Star Wars property changes and expands with all the energy and enthusiasm of a tweenage girl at a Twilight screening, Dark Horse comics’ hold on the franchise’s comics iterations has remained pernicious. Though new jumping on points for readers, like Brian Woods’ new ongoing series, are fairly regular, the ongoing “Dark Times” series continues unabated, with a new number one issue out this month.
Those expecting a familiar jumping on point may find themselves slightly flummoxed when they open the first page to find the story already under way, but a more or less concise recap page tells you everything you need to know. The story follows Jedi Master K’Kruhk, one of the other thousand or...

Still Life
By Alexander Dinelaris
Directed by Elizabeth Bove
Players Club, Royal Theater
August 2-5, 2012
Elisabeth Bove is a fine actor, as abundantly evident by the three plays in which she was featured and which I have reviewed on this site. Her portrayal of Ms. Venable in Suddenly Last Summer was particularly outstanding. She also appeared in a rollicking production of Larry Shue's venerable farce, The Foreigner, which was ingeniously directed by Noel MacDuffie. In Still Life, the tables have turned: Ms. Bove proves herself an excellent director and Noel MacDuffie, as a featured player, shows himself to be a skillful actor.
Still Life is an intriguing rumination, and moving examination of a group of Generation X'ers as they confront “What’s it all about?” -- romance, work, friendship, and mortality. The play centers on Carrie Ann (Leticia Diaz), a successful photographer, who, subsequent to her father’s death three months previously,...

The surviving members of Donna Summer's family are looking to clear the air on the cause of her death—and quick. Just one day after the music world mourned the loss of the disco queen, her family is speaking out, shooting down the already widely circulating reports that her death at age 63 from lung cancer was related to smoking. And that's because despite strangely rampant and ubiquitous reports to the contrary, the legendary "Hot Stuff" singer was a nonsmoker. -- Like the King of Pop or the Queen of Soul, Donna Summer was bestowed a title fitting of musical royalty – the Queen of Disco.
Yet unlike Michael Jackson or Aretha Franklin, it was a designation she wasn't comfortable embracing.
"I grew up on rock `n' roll," Summer once said when explaining her reluctance to claim the title.
Indeed, as disco boomed then crashed in a single decade in the 1970s, Summer, the beautiful voice and face of the genre with pulsating hits like "I Feel Love," "Love to Love You Baby" and "Last Dance," would continue to make hits incorporating the rock roots she so loved. One of her biggest hits, "She Works Hard for the Money," came in the early 1980s and relied on a smoldering guitar solo as well as Summer's booming voice.
