Now it was Law & Order Season 23 Episode 12's turn. They marked their 500th episode with a story that, ironically enough, seemed more suited for Svu but otherwise seemed like a typical episode. Was it special enough for the 500th?
Law & Order Doesn't Do Tribute Episodes
When Sam Waterson exited the series on Law & Order Season 23 Episode 5, it was a strong story that was still disappointing because it didn't contain any flashbacks or other tributes to his iconic character. The same thing happened here.
That's the way it has to be to an extent. It would be off-brand to have an episode that's more tribute than original story. Still, there should have been something more to the story than...

And just like that, Charles changed his mind about whether Ripley should fight the lawsuit.
Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 11 featured Ripley getting triggered at his deposition while dealing with more of Scully's nonsense.
Ripley didn't mind Charles stepping in on his behalf, but I'm not nearly as calm about it as he is.
Ripley Should Have Made This Decision Himself.
Maybe it's the Don Quixote in me wanting Ripley to keep tilting at this windmill, but I don't think he should have backed down from the lawsuit.
Charles encouraged it in the first place because Pawel lies with impunity and uses his influence to intimidate people into not holding him accountable.
Those are damn good reasons to stand up to him.
Charles was worried about Ripley's mental health, but does deciding for him that the lawsuit should end help things?

Dr. Charles could have had a powerful story.
He spent the hour trying to find answers about a patient's suicide while her husband refused to let her go despite her irreversible coma. Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 10 offered a sad story, but it wasn't as emotional as it might have been because of how it was all resolved.
[Note: This review contains discussions of suicide that could be upsetting for some readers.]
The story started perfectly, with June's husband asking why his wife chose to end her life and blaming himself while Charles reassured him that it wasn't his fault.
Nathan: What if the problem was me? Bad husband, neglecting her... what if I"m ther season she jumped?
Charles: Nathan, no. The reasons people take their own lives are mysterious and complex and it's rarely any one thing or one person.

Charles' reassurance probably seemed like empty words to Nathan.

It's great to have Chicago Med back, but Marcel's conflict with Washington was a lot of nothing.
On Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 7, Marcel accused Goodwin of siding with her boyfriend instead of with medical science. Then, everything changed for the patient, and the conflict evaporated.
Will this rear its ugly head some other time? It moved so quickly that it felt pointless despite some great performances.
Marcel and Washington's argument was a classic medical drama trope. TV hospitals are full of medical personnel who think surgery is too risky and surgeons who think the patient's prognosis will be poor if they don't go under the knife right away.
In this case, it was complicated by Sharon's relationship with Dr. Washington, which made Marcel believe she was not being objective in her decision about who to listen to.
Washington's plan initially made a lot of sense. If radiation could shrink the tumor,...

Chicago Med is digging deep into Sharon Goodwin’s (S. Epatha Merkerson) life in Season 9, so that means there has to be some drama. After the end of the latest episode, Sharon can’t ignore the fact that there’s reason to be concerned about her ex-husband Bert’s (Greg Alan Williams) memory. In the February 21 episode “I Make A Promise, I Will Never Leave You,” she recruits Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt) to evaluate Bert. But Sharon’s romance, with chief of oncology Dr. Dennis Washington (John Earl Jelks), is going strong, which we love to see. TV Insider spoke with Merkerson ahead of the next episode to talk about the Bert situation, the romance with Dennis, and, of course, our favorite relationship on the show: Sharon and Charles. At the end of the last episode, Sharon learns there’s a reason to be concerned about Bert’s memory and she can’t ignore that.

Chicago Med — – Pictured: S. Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin — (Photo by: George Burns Jr/NBC) It’s no stretch to say that S. Epatha Merkerson must be one of producer Dick Wolf’s favorite actors — after all, she starred in 17 seasons of the original Law & Order, and she’s been a regular on all nine seasons of Chicago Med. On the latter show, she plays Sharon Goodwin, who’s risen through the ranks to become the administrative director of the show’s hospital. With that responsibility, it turns out, comes plenty of conflict, and Merkerson says that, every time she reads a new script, she’s anxious to find out who she’ll be clashing with in the episode. There's never a dull moment on Chicago Med, but the NBC drama will open its doors to someone with ties to one of the show's longest-serving cast members.
TVLine reports that the series is eyeing "an early thirtysomething male Emergency Department doctor."
The mystery individual will have a connection with Dr. Charles (played by Oliver Platt).
Initially, the new character will be a recurring player, but as we've seen in the past, people tend to get upgraded to series regular status if they resonate with viewers.
The unnamed new addition "comes from a troubled background, which led him to cross paths with Dr. Charles when he was growing up."
Like other long-running series, Chicago Med has lost its fair share of cast members throughout the years, but Chicago Med Season 8 wrote out many ongoing cast members.

Chicago Med- Pictured: (l-r) S. Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin — (Photo by: George Burns Jr/NBC) A successful television show requires a lot of teamwork, from the production team to the writers, directors, and actors who make the show’s stories come alive on the screen. S. Epatha Merkerson knows about that dynamic of teamwork well, having spent eight seasons on Chicago Med and, before that, 17 seasons on the original Law & Order. She told us that kind of camaraderie translates well to a show like Chicago Med, since that same kind of teamwork is crucial to making a hospital run smoothly. Exclusive: T.V. Carpio (Big Sky) has joined the cast of NBC’s Chicago Med in a recurring role, Deadline hears. She will portray Dr. Grace Song, a new doctor hired by Jack Dayton (Sasha Roiz) who will shake things up when the show returns in the spring.
Grace’s hiring comes as no surprise following the news that Jack bought controlling interest in Gaffney Medical Group in the fall finale—building up his own team is par for the course. If Sharon Goodwin’s (S. Epatha Merkerson) reaction to the news of Jack’s come-up is any indication of what’s to come, however, it’s more than likely the addition of Grace won’t be the only change ahead for the hospital.
Carpio’s casting follows multiple cast exits including Brian Tee, Asjha Cooper, Sarah Rafferty, Kristen Hager, and Guy Lockard.

Steven Weber will be back on Chicago Med for the upcoming eighth season of the NBC medical drama. Weber, who portrays Dr. Dean Archer, joined as a recurring in the sixth season and was upped to series regular for Season 7 in a one-year deal. He has closed a new deal and will return as a series regular in Season 8.
Weber’s Dr. Dean Archer is current head of the E.D., whose colleagues at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center love to hate—though they can’t deny he’s a great surgeon. That dislike stems from three things: playing a role in fan-favorite Dr. Choi (Brian Tee) getting shot in the Season 6 finale which helped him climb the ranks; his tendency to break the rules in order to get the job done; and his antagonistic approach to dealing with patients.
Of late, Archer is proving how coloring outside the lines can also be helpful.

A familiar face is scrubbing back into Chicago Med: Jessy Schram, who played Hannah on the NBC medical drama, returned in Wednesday’s episode and will be a series regular going forward, according to our sister site Deadline.
Hannah made her return in the final moments of this week’s Med, starting a new job at the medical center’s emergency Ob-gyn service. Sharon Goodwin set her up with the new position, but Dr. Archer seemed skeptical about bringing her back — which makes sense, since Hannah had a serious heroin addiction that landed her in rehab multiple times.

Exclusive: Jessy Schram is returning to NBC‘s Chicago Med in the role of Dr. Hannah Asher as a series regular. Schram made her One Chicago debut in Season 5 Episode 12 and was last seen in the Season 6 premiere.
Hannah made her shocking return in the final beats of tonight’s episode, “May Your Choices Reflect Hope, Not Fear,” an appropriate message for someone who is now two years sober and ready for a fresh start. Thanks to her guardian angel Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson), her fresh start includes a new job at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center’s new emergency Obgyn service.
Although Dr. Archer (Steven Weber) wasn’t too sure about welcoming Hannah back into the fold—with good reason—but ultimately decided to give her a second chance. If anyone knows about the benefit of second chances, it’s Archer.
The new job is a perfect next step for Hannah,...

“Law & Order” is bringing back yet another familiar face. While NBC previously announced that Sam Waterston and Anthony Anderson will both be reprising their roles of D.A. Jack McCoy and Detective Kevin Bernard, respectively, they aren’t the only ones stepping back into the courtroom — and the list of possible guest stars is endless.
“One of the wonderful things about doing a television show in New York like this with really juicy parts for visitors is that there’s this extraordinary pool of talent of New York actors. So, the hope and expectation is that there will be a wonderful surprise every week,” Waterston tells Variety, before hinting at one of those surprises. “There is a person coming back in the first show, one of my favorite people on Earth. I’m not allowed to tell who that is, but you’ll be glad when you see her.

Chicago Med has us worried about Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) after she called the FBI about the fraud surrounding the Vas-com — and not just because of possible consequences for her career. In TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the winter premiere, “No Good Deed Goes Unpunished… in Chicago,” Sharon checks her blood glucose levels on an app on her phone, and the current reading (240) is not only up 17 from the last reading, but that increase seems to be part of a pattern. “How’s that 15 minutes going for you?” Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) asks as he joins her. But she wasn’t thinking about the fame when she called the FBI, and now, “I’m worried about the hospital,” she admits. Watch the clip above for more of their conversation. The NBC drama left off in December with the FBI interrupting the hospital’s ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Chicago Med Season 7, Episode 9, “Secret Santa Has a Gift for You.”] The Chicago Med winter finale made it look like Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) would do something to risk his career (yet again), but then the episode delivered a bombshell in its final moments—at the hospital’s Christmas bash! After attending the tree lighting with Jessa (Angela Wong Carbone), Will goes back to her place, ostensibly to try her new eggnog recipe, and gets her to admit that Dr. Matt Cooper (Michael Rady) received kickbacks essentially for every VasCom device ordered. And unbeknownst to Jessa, Will was taping every word, which he soon plays for Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) and Peter Kalmick (Marc Grapey). It’s enough to take to the FBI, right? First, Peter insists on talking to the board. (One member: Cooper’s father-in-law!) As Peter does that, Will learns that Matt has plans to...
